The Montoya family of Alaise in Atamara

Background

The Montoya family comes from the mountanious land of Alaise, currently part of the Cagilan Empire, in its border with Falasan and Talerium. They are livestock farmers, and have lived in Alaise as long as it is known. Reliable and educated, the red-haired Montoyas are known to be very honourable and very tough. Hardened highlanders, they are very disciplined and never complain about hard physical conditions. They are good warriors too, trained in long and two-handed swords.

It has been only in the last two generations that the Montoya family has become a wealthy family and part of the lesser nobility. The patriarch of the family, Raymond, was a great administrator and an accomplished warrior. He took part in the fights between rival clans, and he ended with a large property and fine pastures for his cows. The Montoya Hacienda was built, a stone mansion adapted to the cold winters of Alaise, with slate roofs and warm fires.

After all the wars in the inland mountains of Atamara, Raymond Montoya just wanted peace. He focused in his fine horses, and let his sons Adephonso and Leovigildo run the property. But peace did not last. War with Abbington, Red Span and Carelia had been declared, and messengers from the South talked about great battles. Now, it was time for the next generation to earn gold and glory, and make at last the name Montoya famous. The twin elder sons of Adephonso, Michel and Ramon, decided to take part in the events. The family made an enormous effort and recruited armed men in their lands. Michel joined their home realm’s ranks, and went to Cagil to fight against Carelia. Ramon went to Tara, to aid this small realm in its desperate battle. The whole family was concerned and saddened for their departure, but they had hope in their sons and the future of the family.

Michel

Michel Montoya is the elder son of Adephonso Montoya. He is 17, but despite his age is very calm and serious. Well educated, skillful with a long sword and a shield, he likes challenges, though he will always cofront them without losing his temper. He has spent most of his life in Alaise, but now he is serving with his men for the Cagilan Empire.

Ramon

Ramon Montoya is the twin brother of Michel. He is different in many ways to his brother. Bigger and stronger, he always liked fighting. He studied the art of war and become an expert warrior, though still unexperienced. When news about the difficult times of Tara came to the Hacienda, he decided to join the fight. His father gave him a few men and he cheerfully went to war. Ramon feels comfortable with his men in campaign, and though he knows about the brutality of war, he likes soldier's life.
