Laws and Edicts of the Land

The realm of Caerwyn was founded upon and continues to uphold the highest principles of integrity, trust and strength. Built despite enduring many hardships from the rigors of colonizing a wild, hostile, and untamed land, Caerwyn upholds a high set of standards and laws to reinforce the pride of being a member of such a powerful and righteous nobility. Therefore every noble is expected to know these standards and laws and will be punished for any failure to observe them. Ignorance will not be taken as a defense.

Colonies:

During Caerwyn’s history, the realm has supported several colony efforts once they were approved by the Realm Council. No noble may use the resources of the realm to form a colony without prior consent from the Realm Council. Any noble that comes to Caerwyn to start a colony must seek approval from the Realm Council or else leave.

Caerwyn is currently supporting the Asylon colony, which will be settling in Echiur. Any other colonial effort to take Echiur will be denied and/or destroyed.

Any noble or nobles that attempt to start a colony without the Realm Council’s consent will be banished and treated as a rebel.

Comportment :

All nobles are due respect. This includes addressing each noble in the appropriate manner, being polite and courteous, and being truthful with one another. Additionally all nobles are born with the right to express disagreement or protest the actions of their liege or the Realm Council as long as all correspondence is done in a respectful and courtesy manner.

Disrespect, repulsive or inflammatory remarks, and dishonesty will result in a fine, with repeated occurrences resulting in banishment.

All nobles are expected to be obedient to their liege. Direct insubordination and rebellious actions are strictly forbidden.

Each Lord is encouraged to handle insubordination by knights through the use of Good Marks and tax share increases as incentives, and Bad Marks and Oath Dissolution as punishment. If the Lord desires, the High Magistrate upon request, may review the offense and issue an appropriate fine.

Rebellious actions are strictly forbidden and will be dealt with in the harshest manner.

Punishment for rebellious activities will ensure a Ban is issued immediately and accompanied with an Execution upon a subsequent capture.

Within Caerwyn , all nobles who choose to server the realm as traders are not allowed to have dealings with the black market.

Any trader caught trafficking the black market within Caerwyn, will be fined 100 gold the first time, 200 gold the second, and banished thereafter.

Dueling:

As Nobles of Caerwyn, issuing or accepting a duel is the right of each noble. Dueling till surrender, in order to sword fight for sport or practice, is encouraged during times of Peace but must receive the High Magistrate’s approval during times of War.

Dueling, during times of War without the High Magistrate’s approval will result in a fine on both parties up to 250 gold.

Duels to Death are always prohibited and will be punished by banishment from the realm.

Looting:

Unless specifically allowed by the Military Council all looting is illegal, fines up to 250 gold will be issued for the first offense, a second offense will bring banishment from the realm.

The 'Fee of Plunder' does not have any exceptions, if you are given the authority to loot Caerwyn will get the majority of the gold gained!

Regions:

Since the realm’s regions provide for Caerwyn’s survival, Regional Lords have several rights and responsibilities.

Regional Lords may use whatever means that they choose necessary to properly maintain their regions and to ensure that their peasants are fed, completely productive (high Production), loyal to the realm (high Realm Loyalty), and highly obedient (high Realm Control).

Any Regional Lord who fails to tend to these requirements will be fined 150 gold the first time, 250 gold the second, and banished thereafter.

Food produced by each region is directly property of the Regional Lords and indirectly property of the realm. As such each Regional Lord is strongly encouraged, for the benefit of the realm, to sell all surplus food the to the realm’s duchies for a fair price as established by agreement.

Any Regional Lord who hoards food to the detriment of the realm will be fined 200 gold the first time. Any repeat offense will then result in banishment with the noble being considered a rebel to the realm and treated as such.

Religion:

The realm of Caerwyn is a secular entity, meaning all nobles have the right to freely enjoy their own faith. To ensure that the rights of the nobility are maintained, the choice of religious worship is left up to the decision of each noble.

Regional Lords may construct a temple to their faith in their own lands, provided that the Faith does not work in a fashion that is detrimental to the realm of Caerwyn, as determined by the Realm Council, or which has not been deemed unwanted by referendum.

Sanguis Astroism has been deemed unwanted by both a representative and a democratic referendum. As such, no temples to Sanguis Astroism may be constructed and no priests of Sanguis Astroism may preach within Caerwyn.

Any Regional Lord that constructs a temple or allows preaching of a faith that has been deemed detrimental or unwanted will be banished from the realm for rebellious activities.

Verdis Elementum having originated from and having contributed the most to Caerwyn’s growth, has preaching rights throughout the realm. Any other religion must receive preaching rights from the region’s Lord. The one exception, is that no foreign priest is allowed to preach within Caerwyn.

Any priest of Caerwyn found to be preaching in a region without the Regional Lord’s permission will be fined 50 gold the first time, 150 gold the second time, and banned for all subsequent offenses.

Any foreign priest found preaching in a region of Caerwyn, should be warned and informed of the realms laws for a first and second offense. All subsequent offenses will result in the foreign priest being arrested and dealt with according to all existing Realm Treaties.

Priest of Caerwyn are allowed to preach in other realms as long as permission from the Regional Lord has been granted.

Our Federate Ally, Astrum, and our new friend Niselur, have laws against any religion but Sanguis Astroism being preached in their lands and have requested that all nobles of Caerwyn honor these laws.

Any priest proven to be preaching in another realms regions without the Regional Lord’s permission will be fined 50 gold the first time, 150 gold the second time, and banished for all subsequent offenses. This will be in addition to whatever punishment is enacted by the offended realm according to all existing Realm Treaties.

Regional Takeovers:

The addition of a region requires careful planning by the Realm Council to ensure that sufficient nobles, troops, food, and gold are available to take control of, maintain, and repair the region. Since regions that are taken and then lost gain a deep hatred for the realm, all takeovers must be authorized by the Realm Council.

As such, while priests of Caerwyn are allowed to practice their religion as they see fit within the confines of the law, due to the fact that it will be the responsibility of the realm to care for the region, instigating a religious takeover of a region must be planned with and authorized by the Realm Council. Additionally, as it is the right of the Archon to appoint the first Lord for each region, unless the Archon has chosen the priest to be the Regional Lord, then the priest is required to step down once the region is secure.

Any noble that takes control a region without the Realm Councils authorization will be be fined 100 gold immediately, 150 gold for the first week that they refuse to step down, and will be banished if they persist. Any repeat offense will result in immediate banishment and the noble being treated as a rebel.

Wartime:

During times of war, it is imperative that every noble of Caerwyn works towards the common goal of mutual prosperity and protection. If a noble will be unavailable for a period of time or has found themselves incapable of following the Marshal’s orders, the noble should inform their Liege, Marshal, and the Caerwynian High Council.

Any failure to follow orders will first result in a warning the first time with all subsequent offenses resulting in fines.

Protect Caerwyn, act with dignity towards your fellow noble, and you will find Caerwyn to be a home above homes.
