Scores of fields and windmills dot the broad landscape of Bode Batura. The fields are worked by over 6200 peasants, cotters and serfs. The windmills are driven by cool sea breezes by day and, thanks to reversible gearing on some newer windmills, by cool land breezes by night. Most windmills here are used to pump water from deep beneath the ground to quench thirsty crops, producing an average of 220 bushels of food per week for the Alebad realm. The others primarily mill corn, wheat and barley for flour, bread and ale. Along with surplus food, most of the ale produced is loaded on ox cart and shipped south to the realm capital, Alebad.
