Indiglo

Rugina holds Turnip in her arms, her black and white cat, she mechanically scratches behind his black ears. Staring into space she randomly begins making a ticking noise with her tongue.

Tomas, who is sitting in a red lounging chair reading a book, raises an eyebrow. "Tick tock, My Lady?"

Rugina nods while not missing a single tick, staring at a painted glass window.

Tomas brushes his mouth with the back of his hand, sending a silent prayer to the gods, and asks "What would be so harsh to tick whilst on such a calm evening, where no jests play and no one in good graces drinks?"

Turnip leaps from Rugina's arms, and trots off. Rugina stops making the ticking sound, but instead turns to Tomas, mouth wide and eyes filled with ambition. "Tomas! I have a question!"

Tomas sits up and approaches Rugina, and gives a courtly bow. "I may find you the answer if you wish..."

Rugina slaps her fist into her open palm. "How many seconds are in a day?"

Tomas chuckles, a small grin on his lips. "Clearly 86,400 seconds, 43,200 of shared time with moon and sun, My Lady."

Rugina shakes her head "No thats not right!" Tomas Opens his mouth to reject but Rugina continues "Today there is only 86,399 seconds!"

Tomas plays his collar "Aye?"

Rugina brushes away Tomas hands and starts fixing his collar and starts lecturing him. "Tick tick, Tock. You see. if today has only but 86,399 seconds tomorrow will have 86,400. But what will ten days from now have, Tomas?"

Tomas gives a puzzled look and puts his hands on his hips. "86,401 seconds?"

Rugina pats Tomas fixed collar. "No, it will have 86,409 seconds."

Tomas questions "How so? it doesn't match!"

Rugina looks into Tomas' eyes "Yes, but we're never perfect are we?"

Tomas sees why this conversion was brought up. He gives Rugina a grim expression. "If you are annoyed by the clock in the hall, take it down!"

Rugina smiles and giggles "If you say so!"
