Empire,

I have lost the election for Grandmastership again. I am not dissuaded by this defeat by any means. In fact, I foresee many electoral defeats in the future. I lost last time, I lost this time and I will lose again and again. I will lose until the sun sets in the East and rises in the West, until the mountains blow in the wind like leaves – but I will continue to campaign. This is the unsinkable spirit of Imperialism drawing me forward. My cause is just, my ends are true, my methods are pure.

Chief among the founding principles of Imperialism are inclusion, community and progress. The others of course are duty, worthiness and civic responsibility. The Morek Empire can and will embody Imperialism in the future for I shall remain a vocal advocate for non-Astromancer rights, be it with my voice or with these printed words. What I say in these pages will stand the test of time even after I am long dead and buried. Imperialism, the solution to theocratic discrimination and limited-scoped policies, will reign!

A noble of the Empire must learn to see her peers as equals, not as faithful or non-faithful. The day that happens all glass roofs will shatter and I will smile.

I founded the Ashrak Imperialist back in the Winter of 17 YD as a means to engage the nobility of the Morek Empire with topics and arguments about the realm and the times they lived in. The journal was designed to be a polemic, which means it purposefully dealt with controversial issues and attempted, gleefully, to directly confront the beliefs and status quo of the readership. It was a “political rag,” as one detractor called it, and it was also a collection of articles on local interests. It was never a newspaper or a chronicling of events for the Morek Empire.

I decided to take some time off from the Imperialist a few seasons ago for a number of reasons. First, my public life became more pressing as I became the Margrave of Nifelheim (and had to deal with all of the controversy over that). Second, because it started to occur to me that maybe, after all of this time, the Morekans have no interest in their realm outside of the fact that it provides them with a blanket to drape their titles in. This last point grew increasingly in me and I then shelved the Imperialist on hiatus. Consider what that realization means. I have lived in the Morek Empire for quite some time now. I have advanced myself from the very bottom of society, I mean very bottom, all the way up to holding a government title and receiving a city. Me, a noble who opposes the majority religion and who carries an infamous past, earned much in the Morek Empire.  What does that say about the rest of the nobles in the Morek Empire? What does that tell me about the Souls of they who surround me? I spent a great deal of time earning my status in the Empire through honest contributing. I spent a great deal of time attempting to shape and improve the Empire in the ways I thought beneficial. And yet, outside of offering a blank rejection to progress by the few I term zealot theocrats, nobody did anything. No one does anything. The Ashrak Imperialist was a one way conversation. My polemic journal spoke to no one. The ears who received it shrugged it off. The ears whom it directly challenged never took the bait. So what good are you?

The third and ultimate reason I am now ending the Ashrak Imperialist is because I have decided to join the Empire’s colony out of Flowrestown. All that I attempted for the Morek Empire may come to fruition in the new realm. This is an opportunity to take part in something new, something potentially glorious, and most of all something comprised of convicted nobles. They want to build a new society. They care about what it is about and how it operates. They, in the few seasons we have been planning the colony, have contributed more than any I have heard from the majority of nobles in the Morek Empire over the past few years.

So my final word to the Morek Empire, and this is the essence of what the Ashrak Imperialist was all about, is that you can’t have a realm without nobles. You can’t be a noble without using your voice. And you can’t use your voice unless you have a community to speak to. Empire, invest in your community and you will see your realm bloom again.

I have had the privilege of campaigning in one of my finest elections, made so by the nobility of the Empire and by my opponent Ordermarshal Ingi Vlad, now reigning Grandmaster.

Both candidates promoted Imperialism albeit to a different degree. I stood as the staunch and pure Imperialist while Lord Ingi was the moderate, both imperialist and theocratic. His appeal to both camps earned him the Throne, well done Grandmaster!

The second is by attaining the Eight Badges of Divinity. That will be the lesson of next issue. The first way is by participating in the Soul Trade. The Soul Trade is a system of patronage and advocacy between Souls of lesser positions and of higher ones. In order for lesser Souls to climb the Hierarchy (if they are not after the badges) they must earn the vouch of a more powerful Soul in the form of a recommendation. No mimic can do this by cheating. In order for more powerful Souls to climb the Hierarchy they must earn the support of many lesser Souls. The Soul Trade is a mutually beneficial relationship, a quid pro quo. The greater Souls gain strength through followers in a variety of methods sincere or artificial. To a mimic, any Soul above their station would seem like a great and powerful god, even if that Soul is merely two steps ahead of them. A Power God can convince a Mimic that they are actually the incarnation of a greater god and thus earn that mimics worship, when really it is almost as powerless as the mimic. This is why many Mystics approach the Soul Trade with caution and suspect. Studying the mysteries and joining the Mystic community will assist you in weeding out the true gods from the poachers. Enlightened Mystics do not act rashly or without foreknowledge of the god they are interacting with. An uninitiated Mimic would be mesmerized simply for the act of seeing a divinity and bow to worship it regardless of that Souls position on the Hierarchy and motives. Mysticism, then, is a faith of sound judgment when discerning between gods and religions." {{#ifeq:{{{dotted|no}}}|no||style="border-bottom:1px dotted"}} class="help">X</span><noinclude>]]

"The Final Word"

For the Throne,
