Serpentis Family/Erik Eyolf/Family Letters - Part IV
Nurzahn had a strong voice as a sand storm in the desert. As the inclement waves of the agitated sea. His music had mysterious meanings. And the elves could find strange his black skin, but they knew how to admire the power that a man had when he opened the soul to sing about his life. The Erik's guest got applauses and commemorations. A youth woman hurried to take a bottle of wine to the table.
Erik Eyolf: "You have a powerful voice, Nurzahn 'Light Soul'. I think you convinced my people."
Nurzahn: "When we are in the sea for a long time without women, our only amusement is drink and sing. It is a form of maintaining the sailors' sanity. Do you know how to sing, Lord Serpentis?"
Erik Eyolf: "Only after a lot of wine... or to please a woman. I remember to have sung when my old Lord died. It was a sad day. But my family has a tradition and some bards made beautiful music for us."
Nesrah, filling the glasses with wine: "Then we will drink so that new songs are intoned."
The three men (a pirate of black skin, an old elf and a youth Lord) beat the glasses and began to talk of suave subjects, as the difference of the wine and of the women in different regions. The tavern continued very agitated and the people no longer looked at the visitor as an invader. Meanwhile, a group of sailors abandoned the port and walked for the narrow streets of the city in search of the tavern. The first man that opened the door was short and he had a wood leg! His face was round and covered by a black beard. The clothes were old and had smell of the sea. He held a old accordion. After him more fifteen men entered in the tavern, all with pirates' clothes and exotic appearances. Flutes and drums were part of the instruments of work of them. The man with the wood leg screamed and began to sing:
♪ Land Ho!!!
Grandma love a sailor
Who sailed the frozen sea
Grandpa was a whaler
And he took me on his knee
He said, "Son, I'm going crazy
From livin' on the land
Got to find my shipmates
And walk on foreign sands"
This old man was graceful
With silver in his smile
He smoked a briar pipe and
He walked four country miles
Singing songs of shady sisters
And old time liberty
Songs of love and songs of death
And songs to set men free
Yeah!
I've got three ships and sixteen men
A course for ports unread
I'll stand at mast, let north winds blow
Till half of us are dead
Land ho!
Well, if I get my hands on a gold coin
Gonna buy a bottle and drink my fill
If I get my hands on a five
Gonna skin that little girl alive
If I get my hand on a two
Come back home and marry you, marry you
Alright! ♫
The pirates blew the flutes and beat in the drums. The sound of the old accordion invaded the place in the same rhythm that a wood leg beat in the ground. The men walked for the tavern provoking the women and singing while they sought wine to satiate the thirst.
Erik Eyolf: "Nurzahn, I think you know those men..."
Nurzahn: "Yes, Lord Serpentis. They are my crew. Forgive the noise and the happiness that they do."
Erik Eyolf: "Forgive? Probably that will be the most lively night in my life!"
The night really promised to be long and entertaining. The men drank and sang, enchanting the women. The sound of the tavern dispersed for the city. A magic night!
The music is Land Ho, of The Doors. A wonderful music. Enjoy!
