Otherworld

The Shadowlands. It is from this strange and otherworldly place that the chaos has spilled into our lands. It is here that the inhumans call home, and it is here that their strongholds can be found.

The Abyss is our home. It is what we named "our" domain in the shadowlands. Much like you name your "realms" so to speak. It is in the shadows my friend, there is no better way to explain it or put it, but it exists deep inside this world...it can only be accessed by the gates that we control--well, the gates we had a monopoly on. As you can see, our control is temporarily jeopardized...so long as the humans get their acts together and help us.

It is far easier to "see" here than it is where we are from. The shadows, are in essence, dark. Given our eye sight is better than your own, we can't 'see' everything in the shadows without the same help humans draw on for their own domination of this land: fire. ~General Sarge, Ancestor Legion

So the shadowlands are below the earth, and apparently shadow-like.

I cannot tell you much more of the shadowlands, they are dark, and fire illuminates our areas of control. Who truly knows what goes bump in the night, but we have fought some pretty vicious sects of evil, and gradually, we press on, hoping to someday be the truly unquestioned champions of the shadow world. But we suspect that may not be possible, as we only control the largest portion, but no where near the majority of what we have come to know exists. Imagine how much else exists that we have not sent scouts to? Infinite possibilities.

"But what of the lands themselves? Is there earth to walk on, dirt to plant in, trees to rest under? What of a sky from which rain falls, and a sea where fish swim?"

All these things you refer to are alive for the most part. In the shadows, there is only darkness...no vegetation grows as you would think, and the skies are dark and ominous, dense fogs cover many areas, and death lurks in every corner. The ground isn't quite earth...it is like, 'dead' land, hard in some areas, sandy in others, dusty...so many traps waiting to consume...~General Sarge, Ancestor Legion

Indicating the shadowlands are not only dark and oppressive, but devoid of the usual fire and ice of the standard afterlife. Not to mention that only /some/ of the sheep are harmless.

We burn the same things you do for fire, for the most part...supplies we gather from this world at night when all are asleep, and of course, the carcasses of our enemies. We are rather, a "symbolic" people...our enemies all light the paths for all...

This odd similarity, and growing interest in the other world lead scholars to ask if it were possible for humans to visit the shadows.

It would not, we would think. Too dark, the humans need sunlight for so many reasons--crops, etc. ~General Sarge, Ancestor Legion

The shadowlands are not habitable by humans. No food can grow there, the kind humans eat, and the such. They could survive, perhaps, if they were constantly being fed by those that go to the surface often...but that is a hell of a lot of work for any one human...unless there are complicated plans behind the reasons. ~ Hierarch Summoner, Abyss Overlord

So things from this world cannot easily survive in the shadows on the native resources of the shadows, however imported goods are another matter. This of course means the air is the same or similar, and with that in mind it is possible some of the native shadow creatures can work as an equivalent to things from this world. Many scholars of the more adventurous bend find the idea of a Shadowland excursion more and more interesting as the chaos continues to unfold, and with the imprisonment of The One more then a few military minds are looking at the problem closely.

OOC: And this part is just neat even if it's ooc.

Out-of-Character from Sarge No actual world. Just a few regions that belong to us that lead to numerous places on this Island. No real graphics, no need for food/taxes, etc.

When we lose our units we are summoned back.
