Chapter One: Exile

King Reginald IV turned his horse around, and stared into the fires of his capital... A lost opportunity, a lost seat of power, and a definite descent down the social ladder. His only regret was that his plan had failed…

“Not all is yet lost, for I still have the loyalty of my subjects! To the Southern Kingdoms we shall go. Together to the Kingdom of Southersland, where we shall serve together again,” smirked the King as smoke rose over the capital into the starless sky…

The Kingdom of Southersland was east of Ithmashas, the very realm that had destroyed Reginald’s “beloved” Chantu II. Southersland had destroyed the first Chantu in ages past, claiming the great city of Chantu as the new capital. Now, the great line of Chantuan Kings would return to the great city from whence their mighty Kingdom had grown and flourished.
The Ride was long, the rode was dusty, and the air smelled foul, provoking the ire of the King-in-exile. He turned up his nose, and made his aids ride ahead to clear the rode of the peasantry.
“I always said the Ithmashians were nothing but dogs… Look at these dirty scoundrels, covered in dung and the like. Such things have always been unheard of in Chantu!”
And so went the pilgrimage from the fallen Chantu Empire to the Kingdom of Southersland, the King’s scorn and disdain for the Ithmashians unveiled and obvious the entire length of the journey.
