Interlude 5: Silence

Everyone but the duke stiffened at hearing the word 'Haul', and one guard even went so far as to place his hand upon the sword at his side. However, the gloved hand of the sergeant fell down upon the guard's hand to prevent him from doing anything foolish. The silence which fell upon the group then was thick with tension, as all seemed to wait for the duke's reaction.
