Part 10: The Troubling Revelation

Irdys still had the pleased smile on her face of seeing the blade in action, of hearing the guards awed sounds. The light had been good, as had the show. The words of the duke were a quick jolt back to reality though. Still kneeling, gazing up at him, Irdys said swiftly;
"Irdys your Grace, my name that is." Her eyes watched the blade with a flicker of nervousness as she added; "As to where I hail from Milord, I was born in Haul Milord, in better days for that mountain fortress though." Irdys could curse herself at that. It wasn't for her to judge the rightness of whomsoever's rule. True there had been reason she'd left, and the childhood under Nighthelm and Cathayan rule had been better then the recent times. But that was still not for her to judge.
Still, she'd blurted it out, and what was said couldn't be unsaid. Her eyes were riveted to the blade now. Would the first blood that that blade drew in a time be her own? It would be an unusual end, it was hard to say what would happen. She supposed what would come would come, but if things turned ugly she would forever curse her own foolish words.
