The House of Striga
Katarina von Striga
The Striga are a noble family hailing from the Dragon Isles of Dwilight.
Members of the House are notable for their extremely pale skin and nearly ethereal features. This is contrasted by lush, silky hair (usually red or black) and piercing grey eyes. They are not a very warm family. Striga scions more often than not have taciturn personalities. However, they are not impolite and place great emphasis on civility and decorum.
To allies, the Striga pride themselves on being task-oriented and level-headed, a voice of reason when their opinion is needed. To their enemies the Striga remain silent, choosing to let their deeds and martial skills do the talking.
Warfare
When called to war, the Striga don heavy gothic full plate coloured the blackest of jet. A Striga scion's intricately embellished set of armour will often be paired with a thick cloak of rich crimson. Head protection is typically afforded by the sallet, which affords excellent coverage above the neck.
Most members of the family are familiar with the blade and will commonly bear the elegant swept-hilted reiterschwert as a sidearm and a mark of rank. Many scions are also fond of the tactically flexible hand-and-a-half bastard sword due to its compromise between potency and ease of use.
On the battlefield a Striga in full panoply is an intimidating sight: an ominous figure clad entirely in cold black steel, face hidden and crimson cloak billowing in his wake, beast and man thundering forth towards the enemy in a single monstrous amalgamation.
Examples of reiterschwerter and hilt detailing
Minor nobles who serve with the Striga are often equipped as reiters. These cavalry are equipped with straight-bladed sabres or swords and wear half plate consisting of helm, cuirass, arm and thigh armor, while the lower legs are protected by thick riding boots. Reiter horses are generally unarmoured for speed and maneuverability.
By contrast, smallfolk levies that bear House Striga's colours are often poorly equipped. The Scions provide their foot soldiers with simple steel helms, kite shields, and some rudimentary armour (such as the gambeson) at most, but weaponry must be sourced by the troops themselves. Cheaper polearms such as spears, glaives or bills are the norm.
Blazon
The arms of House Striga are Per pale sable and sanguine, a dragon rampant counterchanged.
