The Legendary Scythe of Parrying

Roleplay from Tarken

A guard finds Baron Gregor Eyolf in his offices deep in thought over official state matters.

"Begging your pardon, M'lord," says the guard, "but there's a wandering swordsman at the gate, calls himself Tarken. Says he's found a curious weapon in some dark crypt guarded by living skeletons. M'lord, his story sounds crazy but the weapon does look a lot like the legend of the Scythe of Parrying that my old gran used to tell. At any rate, it's a jolly good scythe. This man Tarken wants to know if your lordship would be, ah... interested in it."

Gregor was busy with some documents when the guard caught his attention. He lifted his head and heard what he had to say.

Gregor Eyolf "Tarken, unh!? Bring him here. Let's see if he can negotiate so well as using a sword..."

Roleplay from Tarken

Tarken had the good sense to keep his eyes down as the guard led him into the audience hall. Remember your place, boy, the guard had warned him as they walked. This is no country market. Speak only when spoken to, and make damn sure the first and last word out of your mouth is "M'lord".

Tarken stood quietly before the Lord of Abilotiel and presented his weapon for inspection. Though it showed significant wear (condition 55%) it was undoubtedly the Legendary Scythe of Parrying and bore all the hallmarks of its noble provenance (+3 prestige).

"Go on, then," barked the guard. "Quick now, and tell his Lordship what you think this banged-up blade is worth."

Tarken's voice was quiet but firm. "M'lord, it is still a fine weapon, and worth 100 gold, if it please M'lord."

The guard lost any intimidation on Tarken when the adventurer saw the great Lord Gregor Eyolf. The old man was a hero, huge as a black bear. After the first inspection, he picked up the scythe and made a closer investigation.

Gregor Eyolf: "100 gold is a lot of gold. But you dared to face me to offer me a good item. You deserve it..."

The Lord walked to the desk and opened a drawer, gathering the gold that there would need to pay for the services of the young adventurer.

Gregor Eyolf: "Here's your gold..."
