:And Taleriums timing on punishing us... Was.. Most convenient given Caligan Empire's massive losses... - Tenebrioun | |||
---- | |||
< | :Though I was not in power at the time of the PoM incident, I can offer some hindsight from knowledge gained in the guild. The time this happened was largely a time of peace ( apart from the MI-Norland war ). There are two points I am uncerten about, which I will be honest with. The first is whether PoM declared war after reaching Talerium, the second is the route taken to get to Talerium. | ||
:As I said, it was a time of peace and scout reports were not made, and no requests were made by PoM and no permission was given. You say we were oblivious to the PoM presence, that is simply correct. We were made aware of a few PoM troops, but did not ask them of their intentions ( we were allies after all ). | |||
:The route taken by PoM to Talerium is largely assumed. Obviously PoM would have gone through ASI and Falasan. But not directly, I have seen a report of Nazia, and there are absolutely no PoM troops there. The only places PoM's troops were seen was the Chato and Corniel regions. I can quite confidentely say PoM did not take the route over the mountains, but travelled round them via CE regions. I have been told my my guild that CE DID give permission for PoM troops to travel through. I don't know whether CE knew PoM's intentions or not. | |||
:But what is clear, The incident was embarrassing for Falasan, which may have been taken slightly out of proportion by Talerium. Or a perfectly good reason for the continued attack against the Eastern Alliance. -- Jambo Lamonte | |||

:note: the brackets around the example letter were not intended to be used in a letter title, only that letter titles be underlined, so the brackets have been removed. I am pondering whether to separate every letter with a horizontal rule, which will more clearly show where a letter has ended and begun, so for now, I'v put it around the letter I wrote, please decide for yourselves whether to do this. | |||

There can be nothing more perfect than Tenebrioun's observations in his May article. The answer to anyone wondering why the western realms always wish pile on their opponents in ridiculous numbers is that, obviously, they need to. They pay a cost in spirit for this luxury, however. The Cagilan Empire army has been a rank embarrassment for a long time. But now, observe the recent decline in Talerium's efficacy. I remember a day when they marched as far as Wayburg and beyond with an army of twenty thousand. Now they seem to struggle with raising ten-thousand. Precisely the same can be said of Darka. The reason is obvious. Their nobles know they are only fighting the wars others. They see that it is always on behalf of the same party and realize, if only subconsciously, that they are servants and another, foreign people their master. Their spirits wilt in a life without risk, without freedom, without glory, without dignity. They have no reason to fight. They are reduced to mindless drones serving the tyrant of an endless swarm of men and lands without virtue. I say to you I know this because I lived through it myself. All going back to prove the Cagilan Empire is but a paper lion. A nation that has been for long in decline and survives only be leaning heavily on many other realms to prop them up under the weight of their hubris. I wonder what would happen if the Cagilan Empire fought it's own war for once? It's a stupid question, of course, because it is impossible to answer. That will never happen. - Rhys
