Colby Barras had not had much luck in life. He had grown up in a sad, miserable village. He had known almost as soon as he could think that he was better than this place. After running away from his cruel parents he had set out on a life of adventure. It had not gone well so far. Exploring several local caves and abandoned crypts he had encountered groups of monsters and undead and had got wounded several times. The last injury was very serious and everyone thought he was dying. Colby had no idea. He was unconscious and drifting in a world of dreams. Finally somehow he managed to struggle out of the coma and back into the world of reality.

This time he vowed it would be different. This time he would bring a name for himself.

Talking to the local peasants in Montauban he found that there were several caves in the region said to be full of monsters. So off he set early in the morning, hoping to catch the monsters unawares. He was in luck. The group was asleep and progress was easy. The second and third cave prooved empty and he began to think his luck was over. The next cave he was more lucky. The beasts were groggy and he slew them with a vengance. Quickly he moved on and slew another group. Thinking his luck would never end he moved on to a bigger cave. Here in the gloom amongst the normal monsters was a larger uglier brute. This must be a leader and leaders can have big treasure, thought Colby. He thrust himself into battle. The lesser monsters falling left and right. A few run away cowed by the wild axe swinging human. Finally he gets to face the huge bulking brute. Back and forth the battle rages. Colby begins to think the battle will never end. Or. No. He will not give in. Will not die. He is better than this. With one last swing he fells the foul beast, almost decapitating it in his pent up rage.

After resting a while he searches the loot. Hoping against hope. Junk. Bones. Rags. Junk. Bah!

Then. A glimmer in a niche in the furthest corner of the cave. Colby puts his hand in the niche and pulls out the "Cold-Forged Scythe".

Thus a legend is born.
