The Death and Funeral of Hero Eagles Reach

Lady Gwynyth spends a sleepless night by the window in her room, watching the night sky and the stars disappearing one by one - the sign of approaching dawn. She didn't even try to get some sleep, not after such day.

Strange how little she remembers of the events of this day. Only some bright points. She remembers uncommonly silent four servants helping her dressing the long and heavy dress of black velvet ornamented with the gold lions embroidery. She remembers that she spent the long time in the palace chapel to pray before the funeral, so long time that when she entered the cathedral for the ceremonies, everyone else was already there and waiting.

She remembers a dark-brown coffin in front of the altar where she stood and the people gathered around expecting her speech while she could not speak of pain. Finally, after a while she spoke:

"Eagles Reach, you said your wish would be to see the end of the war. But not such an end you meant. I hope you've found the real peace instead as I hope to see the real end of the war. Rest in peace, hero of Caligus".

She hardly recall what was happening next, she remembers standing in the open air under the elm tree, the same dark-brown coffin in front of her and people around. One by one they approached the coffin for their last words throwing their knives into the hole but what were they saying and swearing she does not know anymore. She remembers the full sun and the wind playing with the leaves of the elm tree, changing the half-shadow patterns on the people faces. She turned her face toward the sun closing her eyes when the diggers lifted the coffin up and dropped gently into the grave. The rustle of the leaves on the wind mixed with the sound of soil falling on the coffin........

The sky turned pink already when a servant entered her room to wake her up and surprised seeing her not sleeping at all said: "My Lady, it is time to go, everything is ready, avant-garde just departed to Supra".
