The Setup
Xarnelf Lightstar, ruler of Greater Aenilia, was in Nbasah, headed to Arcachon to conduct another series of investments, financially suporting Arcachon in their war with Arcaea. (Which was a violation of treaties. Xarnelf claimed he was conducting diplomatic missions.) Xarnelf had been warned at least twice that he was not allowed to cross Ohnarian Lands. He disregarded the warnings and continued his travels. This may have been a deliberate provocation, or he may have considered Ohnar West too timid to do anything about it.
The hit wasn't a matter of revenge against Xarnelf personally. It was an attack against Greater Aenilia, who had interfered in the war between Ohnar West and the secessionist Akadian League. Taylin was trying to start a war between Ohnar West and Greater Aenilia. And it worked, even though Ohnar West never really got to fight much. Arcaea took the opportunity to step in and beat up Greater Aenilia. That was fine with Taylin. GA took a beating, and she got her revenge on them.

Later that turn:
You set out on a mission to take out Xarnelf Lightstar, Paladin-King of Greater Aenilia, Marshal of the Prima Legio de Phoenix Aeniliana.
You manage to sneak into his sleeping quarters unnoticed.
Silently, you sneak up on your target, and surprise him.
You quickly put him down for good, seriously wounding him before you make your escape.
There was a bounty of 1000 gold on his head, which you gleefully collect.
You successfully escape the guards and vanish into the shadows again.
April 12, before sunset, Xarnelf at "wounded" status. So, 3 days in "Serious" condition. Not quite enough to knock him out of office, But it did trigger the OW/GA war. Which was mostly fought by Arcaea and Greater Aenilia.
Aftermath
Xarnelf blamed Tilted Brim Slim for the attack, even though Tilted Brim wasn't in the region at the time. Tilted Brim moved into Nbasah the next turn, and issued a public warning to Xarnelf to "leave or else". Xarnelf didn't hear the warning until he recovered many days later. Apparently his advanced age and the pain of the wound confused him about the timeline of events.
FWIW - Tilted Brim had been given the go-ahead to start stabbing. Taylin just got there first.
