The son of Norvel Bosworth and Aedre, a native woman of the Mountains of Challenge. When Scur was an infant, he and Aedre were captured by monsters and taken deep into the mountains, Norvel fought to rescue them, but was grievously wounded and found evidence that they had perished. He eventually gave them up for dead and returned to Atamara (see Norvel's story). In reality, Scur and Aedre were miraculously rescued by the God of Aedre's people – a story only Aedre knows fully. By the time she and and the baby made it back to the Shrine, Norvel had left the continent. As a peasant, Aedre had no way to reach him or even find out where he went.

Scur is a native of Dwilight from the highlands near Shrine of Seeklander. He was raised by his mother and their Mountaineer clan. Even though he is half Atamaran, he doesn't look it at all. He is 5' 4" tall (1.62 meters) with dark skin and black hair and eyes. He has long legs for his height and large calves adapted to carrying loads and climbing heights. As a native of the Mountains of Challenge, he's physically adapted to working hard in the thin alpine air.

Like most of his people, he has no great love for the foreign nobles that now rule his homeland. But he has no great hate for them either. Scur knows his place and is careful to show the high folk of Astrum respect and fear.

Though officially a follower of Astrum's only legal religion, Sanguis Astroism, he regards the blood stars with suspicion, and secretly worships the God of his mother's people.

In the local dialect, Scur means "storm". He has a stormy, quick temper – often acting rashly – but he calms down quickly as well.
