Pelasgia is a small port town that serves as the administrative headquarters for the coastal area of Perdan Mines. Much of the coastal trade in both fish and wine comes through this port en route to Perdan City or other southern regions via Westria. Formerly overseen by Mayor Simon Cassius, elected by the people to work for Ser Rogos V'Orlan of the Golden Lions, the town is now ruled by Mayor Alex Oakshield, under the supervision of the House de Haguns.

History

Pelasgia's ancient history has been lost to the sands of time, and the fires of Northern barbarians. The modern town sits on the ruins of a site that had been occupied since antiquity, making use of the deep waters and calm winds of the Kalmar Bay. In its reconstruction since Perdan Mine's devestation in c1014, it has been a hub for trade and commerce, serving the mining town of Aurocastrum as an outlet for the vast quantities of silver minted there.

Government

Current headquarters to sir Orpheu, Pelasgia is the heart of rule in the coastal territory that wraps around the Perdanian Spine, home to a minor tax office and a small company of guards that keep the peace from here to Westria. The House of Haguns rules Pelasgia in the stead of Earl Joreb deLacy.

Religion

Pelasgia has gone through a number of religions in its long history. In recent years paganism has had a major resurgence despite years of Trinitism as the mainstay faith throughout the Perleone Empire. The Church of Humanity, though long fallen from noble favor, still has a handful of faithful in the region, often counted among those with pagan beliefs by modern scholars.

Trade and Commerce

Pelasgia supports a wide variety of maritime industries, with fishing being the dominant trade, for export further inland and to supply vessels on their way around the peninsula or further afield. Pearl diving has begun to emerge as a notable business as Perdan grows in power and influence, and a demand for luxuries has become more pronounced.

Fair weather and rich soil allow Pelasgia to support small orchids and a few herds of goats despite the steep and unforgiving terrain. Honey and fresh fruit are common to smallfolk diets, which in turn open up export of mead and wine, mainly to Perdan and Aix.

With a lack of open plains and only small settlements in the region, staples like wheat and livestock are imported regularly from the Wood and Bisciye, or otherwise taxed from shipments stopping through on their way to Perdan City.

Few smiths in the area are capable of handling larger orders, only suited to the slower paced demands of village or town life, and as such most manufactured goods must be ordered in from Perdan or Aix, with skilled labour being a rarity. Stonemasons, veteran blacksmiths, and professional carpenters travel through the region periodically, their prices inflated for the relatively wealthy villages.

Organisations

  • Thieves' Guild Safehouse - Used for smuggling people and illicit goods from Perdan City to North Haven.

Notable Locations

Port Pelas - Deep water and good fishing, the port is the lifeblood of Pelasgia, bringing in trade and food to supply the rest of the Perdanese Mountains. Transport around the peninsula is never far from hand, it is no issue to find a vessel traveling the bredth of the Perdanese Coast.

V'Orlan Manor - One of the largest manors in the town, it overlooks the Blackcliffe River, formerly home to Ser Rogos V'Orlan. Now vacant.

Haguns Villa - A large and old villa, it has been the House of Haguns seat in Pelasgia for many generations. While originally from Aurocastrum, the House of Haguns built the villa as their main office to supervise business in the port town, as well as summer residence. Now it serves as sir Orpheu personal estate.

The mainstay of town trade is wine, mead, and livestock. Simple adventuring and fighting equipment is easily found, but martial weapons can only be seen in the smithy, and at a premium.

The Thief and Scroll - Frequented by merchants and travellers, the Thief and Scroll is a hub of activity, host to all rank and trade. Room and board ranges from two silver upwards.
