The Battle of Gethsemene was one of the largest battles during the First Undead Invasion in Beluaterra. Undead horde advanced to Gethsemene the only city of Old Grehk.

Prelude

Undeads were victorious in various fronts. Many rural areas were occuiped and pillages till ground. Human forces has to take refuge in built settlements, where walls can hold the endless undead horde. In Old Grehk the situation is even more dire. They have only one city. If the city is fallen, their Kingdom would end. In (2004-02-13), Undead finally advanced to Gethsemene.

Forces and dispositions

The Old Grehk force consist of many militias called to arms before the battle. Besides this there is also some professional soldiers led by the nobles and lords. The Undeads consist of vampires led by Vampire lords. The Undead Command apparently do not know militias were called just before the battle and headed towards to fortified city.

The Battle

It is quite windy and the archers will have to aim very carefully. However Old Grehk dont have much archers so this would not affect too much. The Old Grehkians defenders have the benefit of fortified positions (level 4).

When the defenders sighted the incoming Undead horde they fired arrows upon them. However the arrows were too few to take effect. The Old Grehk Command beleive Undeads are not humans and do not feel much pain even shot. The defends take positions on the outer wall ready to engage the undeads. Vampires (2) take 299 hits from archer fire, which cause 7 casualties. Fresh Vampires (4) take 550 hits from archer fire, which cause 14 casualties.

The Vampires reached the walls and starts to scale it. They do not have ladders however they are too many and strong enough to pile on each other. 20 Old Grehk banners are visible in the melee, this boosted Old Grehkian morale and soldiers can know they are more numerous than their foes. The defenders tried their best to throw their enemies back to ground, hopefully the gravity will kill them if their swords cannot penterate their hard bones. There were reports the Vampires sucked blood of some soldeirs till death or conversion depends on the healthiness of the victim. Some were converted to vampires so defenders have to slay their own brothers, despite with great sadness.

The Vampires attempt the attack the walls for 11 times. They do not feel pain and do not have emotions. Most of them fought till the last undead were standing.

Aftermath

The battle was a defensive victory for Old Grehk. However the vampires greatly demolished the walls. About 63% of the fort were damaged, reduced into rubbles and boulders. Like all typical victory on undeads, the battlefield became a sea of bones and flesh. The clean up work was very difficult but has to be done to prevent diseases.

The battle boosted morale of Old Grehk people. Undead may be invincible in the wilderness however they still cannot pentetrate fortificaton defence easily.

One Vampire Lord and Sigurt, the Duke of Gethsemene has been wounded in the battle.
