Syl is the ostensible progeny of Paul Marlboro, a deceased hero of Asylon. Shortly after his death she managed to contact her cousins on Atamara and inform them of her existence. After a bit of back and forth Winston sent her official papers of recognition and some gold for a trip to Beluaterra, so that his brother Red might keep an eye on her. After all, neither of them had ever trusted Paul much.

Red is suspicious that Syl is merely an unusually shrewd commoner who has lied her way into nobility, but thus far has been unable to attain any evidence to this end.
