Ordinances

Duels

Dueling other members of the Circuit is the way to progress in the ranking system of the guild. Official duels must be reported to the whole guild and must follow the Protocols.

Rank

For members of the Circuit, class and station outside of the guild have no weight. Kings may duel Outlaws without disgrace. Your rank within the guild reflects your skill, reputation, and experience. It is the measure of the swordsman.

The rank of Champion is not entered into the guild because it is an achieved feat. Ranks are your position on the path of swordsmanship, whereas the title Champion is an accolade for winning a circuit.

Circuits

A circuit refers to the guild's version of a dueling tournament. They may be as small as the local chapter, or as large as the entire continent. For a circuit to be official it must follow the Protocols.

All circuits are elimination. There are no accolades in a circuit except Champion - it is win or nothing.

Circuit Structure

Preliminaries

Where the combatants are arranged into brackets. Each bracket is a single duel. If a circuit is a second grade or higher (8 or more combatants) then brackets will be divided into fixtures. One fixture has four combatants and two duels.

Qualifiers

Where the winner of a bracket faces the winner of the bracket in the paired fixture.

Semi-Finals

Where the winner of a fixture faces the winner in the opposite fixture. The first fixture's winner will face the last fixture's winner, and the two middles will compete.

Championship

  • Underbout

The losers of the Semi-Finals compete for third and fourth place, which are technically unrecognized but still entertaining and rewarding.

  • Overbout

Winner of the Overbout is the Champion of the circuit.
