The Kingdom of Dragon Shire

History

Though not yet formed, it has had considerable history. However, with the destruction of Shadovar, there is a likelihood that it will be a long while before the dream of Dragon Shire is finally made flesh.

The Beginning

The Kingdom of Dragon Shire was first the dream of a few nobles from different parts of Dwilight. These nobles all had family on the East Continent in the realm of Fontan and still do. In the beginning there were three. Dame Katayanna Ogren of Pian en Luries, Sir Talon De' Grif of Caerwyn, and Sir Royce of Melodia. Sir Royce is the one that brought knowledge of the dragon regions to the others. As all three revere dragons, it was decided that they should try to create a realm around them. At first they chose the name of Bloodstone as they knew that much blood would be spilled in achieving their goal.

Sir Talon was chosen to establish our initial claim and get the approval of the ruler of Caerwyn in doing so; this he did while doing some scouting of the regions. Sir Royce was charged with actually going to the dragon regions and investigating them; he was ultimately unable to do this as the King of Melodia had issues with it. Sir Royce was present during the rebellion of Melodia and then lost hope for a time and traveled to Springdale for reasons yet unknown. Dame Katayanna had just had her region revolt for the second time and could not get the assistance or advice of Queen Alanna Anaris when word came from her family of the dragon regions and along with instructions to leave immediately and go assist Sir Talon.

Early Troubles

Dame Katayanna had a sizable unit, but no way to pay them. As a result, she chose to loot the rogue regions near Pian en Luries in order to pay her men. As she passed through Poryatu and into Dantooine, Duke Shenron accepted her oath offer under the understanding that she was only leaving Pian en Luries and did not wish to loot under Pian en Luries banner due to the heavy fines that were being levied against any that looted. He also sent her 200 gold so that she could pay her men. As she turned around to head to Poryatown to cash those bonds she was engaged in battle by General Diodorus Exiled. She limped into Poryatown, cashed her bonds, and recruited what she could to replenish her unit. When she turned to leave she found the entire Pian en Luries army blocking her path. At that time Shenron converted to a priest and ran away. The only other person there was Sir Valdrix who was completely loyal to Sir Reynard, count of Dantooine. Much happened after that and very fast. Dame Katayanna ended up Duchess of Poryatown, General of Verus Luria and doing everything she knew to keep herself, Sir Valdrix, and Sir Reynard, the new King of Verus Luria alive. She made offer after offer to return Poryatown to Pian en Luries peacefully but was refused again and again. She decided that the only way to survive was to put out a call for help to any that would listen. Sir Talon and Sir Royce dropped all they were doing and came immediately. Others joined the realm as well and soon she was responsible for a growing army. Pian en Luries attacked and victory went to Verus Luria but Duchess Katayanna was captured. She was not treated poorly in prison, but was ignored and all her letters to her King were returned with "you have no king" written on them.

Upon her release, she decided that enough was enough. She knew that there was little chance to win against Pian en Luries under the conditions she was in. The nobility wished to stand and fight and so against her better judgment she organized them into a viable fighting force.

Pian en Luries did not attack after that; they settled down in Poryatu and began a siege to starve Poryatown into submission, but still refused any peaceful solutions. Dame Katayanna watched as over 20,000 peasants died of starvation. Even while starving, the loyalty of Poryatown remained very high until the last days.

It became obvious to everyone that something had to be done. Drastic times called for drastic measures. General Katayanna gathered her forces for a strike against Poryatu. They were outnumbered 2 or 3 to 1 and the outcome was not guaranteed to say the least. But unless they could feed the people there would soon be none left. It was decided that if they were victorious and could takeover Poryatu, that they would continue to stay and fight, but if they lost the battle that they would leave with what forces remaining to them and try to begin again elsewhere. Dame Katayanna, Sir Royce, and Sir Talon discussed it at length and Dame Katayanna declared that if she could get the rest of the nobles secured in their own realm that the three of them could at that time leave to fulfill their dream.

Shadovar Assists

After much negotiation with Morek, it was decided that that was ultimately a dead end. The kingdom of Everguard was willing to take in all ten nobles, as was Springdale, but the chance to colonize was very slim. Talks with Caerwyn were positive in nature and they would be happy to assist if they could, but conditions dictated otherwise. Shadovar, from among all the realms of Dwilight, was the only one that could assist Dame Katayanna and her nobles. But they were fighting a losing battle with hordes of monsters. A deal of sorts was agreed to. Dame Katayanna and her nobles would join Shadovar and assist them in securing their regions, even retaking a number of them back as well. In exchange, they would allow Dame Katayanna and her nobles to colonize the regions that they had laid claim to with the exception of two that Shadovar wished to take for themselves.

The name of the colonization effort was changed from Bloodstone to Dragon Shire.

The arrangement is working out thus far. This is where we stand as of July 24, 1008

On August 17, 2008 - Dictator Edelstein sent Lady Katayanna a letter stating that her and her nobles had been a great asset to Shadovar and that they had fulfilled their obligation to Shadovar and were free to go and colonize their own realm. However, Shadovar was again assaulted by monsters. The Dragon Shire colonists did not feel it right to desert Shadovar at this time. As soon as these were dealt with, they will be headed out to finally colonize Dragon Shire.
