Life of Lord Jannes

Jannes left his home when he was 17. He left Apasur, the place where his family lived for many years. Sartania was in war with Arcaea, and he responded on the call to aid his country. Full of hope and courage, he left with 20 archers in his command. He travelled along trough Tuhpos, Irneas and finally Niel. There the soldiers of Sartania were gathering. It was the first time in history he saw so much soldiers. He was looking forward to the fight. They travelled along to Nocaneb,

the stronghold Sartania was willing to capture. But when he saw the battle, when he heard the men scream, he started to worry. Not for long though. His General, Vash, ordered his men forward. Along with the brave men of Sartania, Jannes marched forward, leaving behind his fear. Soon they approached the high walls. Without pausing, he and his men stormed forward, scaling the ladders. He drew his sword once he reached the top of the wall. Many soldiers were lying dead in front of him when suddenly he was attacked. He managed to kill one of his offenders, but quickly he was outnumbers and captured by the attackers. He could waste his first 5 days in Sartania in the Arcaea jail.

When he finally got out, he travelled back to Niel. All his men were gone, deserted or dead, and his purse was almost empty, a few gold coins left. He went towards one of the pubs in Niel to have a good meal. There he met Musdui, the Lord of Tapaliez. After some long talking and sharing adventurers, Jannes received the offer from Musdui to become his Knight. Jannes accepted without hesitating, and from that moment, he served Musdui with boundless loyalty.

Time passed on, day by day. Jannes learned lots of his Liege, politics, fighting and so one. There was peace that time in Sartania, so Jannes could only fight monsters and undead. It was all the same for him. He fought to defend his beloved home. He became very good friends with Ascanius, a honourable Sartanian Noble, a man of his word and a very good friend! Together, they tried to be of as much as possible use for the realm. Their work paid off: Ascanius soon got elected for the Banker position.

One day, the Mraulaxon lord, white assassin, left the realm without warning. Mraulaxon was without a lord. One day, a scribe from Edward, the Pontifex of Sartania, arrived at his camp. He told him that he had to travel to Mraulaxon. Without knowing what would happen, he travelled along. There, Edward gave him the key of Mraulaxon castle. The place was abandoned due to the long absence of a lord. Jannes invested some of his gold to rebuild the castle. Soon his brother joined him to serve as his knight. Once the new Castle was finished, they made it the new Family Mansion. Now days, they both live there, defending the peasants of Mraulaxon, and guarding the borders of Sartania in the east.

Engagement

Lord Jannes is currently engaged with Isabella from Meah, a small village near his mansion in Mraulaxon. She is a girl of Nobles birth, young and full of joy. It was love at first sight.

They met each other at a spring morning. Jannes returned to his mansion after he inspected the warehouse. She was walking trough the woods when Jannes rode by. He noticed her in her white dress. He passed her and their eyes found each other: "good morning my lady" Jannes said. She smiled at him while walking along. Jannesn while riding, turned around to look at here again. Suddenly the girl shouted: "watch out". Jannes smiled, and looked again forward, when he rode against a huge branch, lifting him off his horse.

When he opened his eyes, he was looking right into hers. She was laughing: "I told you to watch out!" "I was watching some one else", he said. "I noticed" and she started blushing. She helped Jannes back at his feet. She was just as tall as him, blond/brown hair and brown eyes and a cute face. They walked to Jannes' horse. "May I walk you home?" he asked. "Maybe I should walk you home, cause you took a serious blow". And so they walked back to Danlawer Castle, talking about little things, and falling both in love.

Warfare

Jannes made his choice to command cavalry in times of War. His current unit, Templar Knights, exists of about 20 of the finest riders. They are well trained and fight as one, all bound to each other by the loyalty towards their lord.

Because of his choice for cavalry, he ordered the Blacksmith in Niel to make a special armour. It should protect his torso, arms and his upper legs. His gloves

are made steel, his finger tops of hardened leather, so that he could aim steady with his lance. The use of plated armour gives Jannes a great mobility. It can make him mount and dismount very fast, giving an advantage when fighting closed packed enemies.

His lance is used to pin down the enemy and to charge home. Because Jannes never wears a shield, he can handle the spear with both hands. Due to heavy top, this weapon is deadly when slashed down riding a horse. Many monsters skulls where crushed because of the severe hit they took.

When Jannes fights on foot, he prefers to use his sword. His lance is handy when there is enough space on the battlefield to wield it around, but in close combat, the one hand sword is his favourite. When fighting, he holds the dagger in is left. Without shield, he is very vulnerable for arrows or sword hits. He can partly compensate the shield by

Fellow believers,

Today, I joined The Church of Sartan. In the first days walking around the realm, everything was new. When I was walking through the gardens of Niel, my attention was drawn by a Beautiful structure: this Temple. I visited it several times, to study the sign at the entrance. One line wasn't clear to me: "Sartan will be the guidance to all who seek his refuge". I was wandering how a God could be the guide, till a recent event. I was in Obtal, patrolling the north, when the militia revolted. My men and I were camping, when suddenly the militia surrounded our camp. We fought like wolves, but victory couldn't be gained. It was a lost fight. We were fighting in a circle, when I received a blow of a sword in my neck. I lost conscience, but before I faded away, I saw that one of men, Galfridu, came near, placing one foot next to me, the other foot at the other side. He stood strong, defending me from the mad militia. Before I Lost conscience, I saw fire in his eyes.

After several hours, I woke up. Galfridu was lying on me, pierced by many arrows. But he saved my live. While I was lying there, I remembered me the line at the sign: "Sartan will be the guidance to all who seek his refuge" It became clear to me. The fire I saw in the eyes of Galfridu, the many wounds he received, and the many enemies he killed (there were lying almost 10 dead militia guards next to me), it had to be a intervention of Sartan.

I stood up, searched the rest of my unit, buried my dead men, and started to travel back to Niel, with the intention to join this order, and to become a good follower!

General Election

On 28 June in the morning, the former Sartanian General, Vash, count of Apasur, died from an unknown disease. He died at the moment when Sartania was close to a war with Arcachon, the plague from the north. A new General was needed, and fast. Jannes still mourned from the death of his friend, but Sartania needed someone new. The night after the death, Jannes spoke before the Sartanian people:

Sartanians, Friends, Brothers and Sisters in Arms.

Today, we lost our beloved General Vash. He left us without any word. Now he left us behind with as sore feeling, the dark pain of a loss. He left us, and it hurts. I will mourn his death, his knowledge, wisdom and his honesty. But, friends, I will drink on his achievements, on his joy of life. He will be known as Sartanians greatest general, the defender of the crown and religion. Vash will be known as our friend, our Shepard standing next to our leader. And if we visit his grave, we will smile and remember him like if he was standing next to us. We will laugh when we think back at his last weeks, patrolling the north, looking out for the plague, with his 80 men strong Take Over unit, made of the best Special Forces we have in Sartania. So will he be remembers, as the just, wise and our own special General, dedicated to his country!

But with his loss, we are without a military leader to lead us in the upcoming war. We need a new leader, a strong leader! Sartanians; that is why I step forward for this position. I want to lead you all towards victory, to hell if that is necessary!

I cannot replace our old general and I will never be able to replace him. But I can do my best to lead you all the way he should have done. I will write down the things I can offer Sartania.

I can offer you my time and my dedication to our cause. I would be a general who is concerned about his soldiers, who is ready for those in need of aid, a general who can be trusted: a general who stands and lives next to his soldiers. A general who would give his life for his knights. A general who places the needs of his soldiers before his own.

Maybe you will question my military leadership, or my insight. I cannot offer you victories before the battles are fought, but I will do my best to bring Sartania victories. I have read the writings of my brother, Gaius Julius, who is Marshal of the most important Army of Toren, in the South East. He has lots of experience, and he knows how to fight a battle. I have experience on the field of battle, there I fought many monster and undead hordes. Although they are different then human being, they are a good practise.

I can promise you that I will be there in times when I'm needed, and that I will do everything to keep the morale up, even if things goes wrong! I'm vocal and I know how to inspire my troops on the field of battle. Clear and structural orders, twice a day, is needed for a good army, and that is what I will do.

Generalship, my friends, is a dangerous job, for there is much power lying in that position. Like my father told me: "weapons are instruments of ill omen". That is why a good General does not rely or presume on strength or power. He is not pleased by favour and does not fear vilification. He does not crave whatever material goods he sees, and he does not rape whatever women he can. His only intention is to pursue the best interests of the country!

And that kind of General, nobles of Sartania, is something I can give you all!

I ask Sartan and all of you for a chance to prove myself, to become a worthy General and to follow our beloved General Vash in his footsteps!

Sito Kimball, a honourable noble, joined the elections. It was an even match, but Jannes managed to get elected with a very small margin. He had only a few days to prove himself before the Sartanian nobles. 4 days later, he was re-elected as General, this time with some more votes. A few days later, war between Arcachon and Sartania broke out and in the first month of the war Sartania only knew victory on the battlefield. This success had its impact on the elections and Jannes was elected again, a sign the people of Sartania trust him as General.

Currently, the War between Arcachon and Sartania is still fought. Arcachon hired the mercenaries Arceae. Sartania has to fight two enemies at the same time. Ethiala is preparing for war but has not yet entered the battlefield. Hopefully they will soon...
