The Bogelani Family is a family originally from Ortedail in the realm of Soliferum, Far East. Currently known family members are Sir Ziccharius, knight of Masahakon.

A few people in Soliferum also know that there is currently also a second Bogelani son, called Andarius. No further family members or even relatives are known.

History

The Bogelani family became wealthy over 300 years ago as very succesfull drapery traders. Living in Ortedail close to the sea they traded not only in the Far East, but also on other continents. Over only three generations, they grew from being regular merchants to very rich commoners. In fact, eventually they grew so rich that nobles from many regions, even important ones, used to lend money from the Bogelani clan. In this situation they were declared noble.

However, further generations could not keep up with the success of their ancestors. Over two generations the wealth could be kept, but then they had problems with misinvestments and some nobles couldn't or refused to pay outstanding bonds. They lost much of the acquired land and almost all companies. However, they managed to keep enough land to stay economically independent and noble.

Today, they still own pretty much to same land as their unsuccessfull ancestors.

No Bogelani family member in history has ever participated in politics so far aside from money lending. The Bogelani have always been known to be fair to their bondsmen and treated all other nobles equally, not supporting any politics or personal arguments. However, many say that the Bogelani members tend to be too good natured in general, therefore losing all their wealth.

Armorial Bearings

The family shield is currently a plain silver shield. Originally, it used to also show a drapery in different colors over the history symbolizing the family's origin but over the centuries the colors vanished from the insignia. Ziccharius added a sole black ring on his shield, when he left his family's dwellings.

The full armorial bearings also show a plain helm, but no coronet or mantling.

The family motto is "Finis coronat opus" - "The end crowns the work".

Please note that not all this information might be available to your character, depending on how often you met family members or close friends. Please act encordingly. I will also update this information on a regular basis depending on in-game development.

Also note that English is not my native language and that much vocabluary is created on an ad-hoc basis for this game. I'm speaking English quite good, but not in a medi-eval setting. Any suggestions of corrections and improvements (specially for odd word usage) is highly welcome.
