History of Aquilegia and its Regions

Council

Ruler

Garret Artemesia 02/15/09-Present

The first ruler of Aquilegia was Garret Artemesia, who suggested the name of the realm, upon which was unanimously agreed. During the initial ruler election he ran against the then-prospective duke of Flowrestown and current Duke Addridae. Garret's platform asserted the need to separate the rulership from the dukeship such that the ruler can be a more impartial representative of the summary interests and concerns of each duchy as an overall realm representative. He was elected by a vote of 13 to 8. Notable Events: During the first Asterion's reign, the initial priorities were food security and military security. With the able Senate, both were achieved despite the shortage of nobles. Since the winter of colonization, Aquilegia has managed to survive and is now progressing steadilty.

General

Velox Anima 02/14/09-Present

The first general of Aquilegia was Velox Anima, who was elected unanimously. The background events that led to this would be pleasantly ironic, because it was Garret who attacked Velox's bid for Ordermarshal of Morek several months before so that Medugnatos Stormcrow would be elected. However the way fate works, if it exists, is strange. Had Velox become Ordermarshal of Morek, would he have accepted the journey to Aquilegia, leaving behind prestige in the stable Morek for a new realm? Even so, he had become one of Garret's trusted military advisors by the time of Flowrestown's colonization, and the Asterion was impressed by the first Earl Marshal's tactical wit and ability. Notable Events: Velox was not only the military authority in Aquilegia, but also the physical writer and intellectual co-author of the Aquilegian Constitution. The initial events of his term were mostly skirmishes, as the realm did not have any organized army at the time due to pragmatic concerns. Later, with the establishment of the Chersonis Themata, he was the main military leader of all the monster campaigns that are ongoing.

Banker

Vos de Zorro 02/14/09-Present

The first banker of Aquilegia was Vos de Zorro, who ran against Mervin Vetinari, an opponent who withdrew, and was elected unanimously. The primary concerns of the new realm was food acquisition, and although the Fiduciary was often independent in his methods, he had managed to secure trade with Morek, allowing Aquilegia to survive the winter. Notable Events: The first Fiduciary's tenure was mostly made known by the effects of his actions. Food was shipped by trader caravan, keeping the populace healthy.

Judge

Vesuvis Adriddae 02/18/09-03/05/09

The office of the Kalos Kagathos was an interesting matter. Traditionally the judge/High Inquisitor of a theocracy to Sanguis Astroism would be appointed by the Prophet. Garret did ask the Prophet for his advice. But the office was one of lawmaking and enforcement, and not a very religious one. The terms of the judge of Aquilegia were slightly modified, such that it reflected the natural separation of Church and State, and such that the Kalos Kagathos could pursue true justice without the inherent influences from religious duties.

Because the winter was killing inhabitants of Aquilegia quickly, the first Asterion decided to act quickly and exert emergency powers to appoint Vesuvis the first Kagathos, on the condition that once this state of emergency subsided that he would step down to allow Mervin Vetinari, as advised by the Prophet, to take the position. Notable Events: The laws passed by Vesuvis were similar to Morek's, regarding practical laws and religious.

Mervin Vetinari 03/05/09-Present

The second judge of Aquilegia was initially reluctant to take such responsibility. However, after some consideration, as well as the knowledge that the Prophet would have wanted him in the position, a fact that was slightly affected by the exchanges between Garret and the Prophet, Mervin accepted the post. Notable Events: Mervin drafted the first explicit anti-looting law that affected the entire realm. No looting would be permitted. In his defense of separation of powers within the Senate, he justified why the position of judge should be independent of the ducal and ruler positions.

Dukes and Lords

Flowrestown

Vesuvis Adriddae 02/15/09-Present

There was almost no doubt that Vesuvis would become duke of Flowrestown. He was appointed to the ducal seat after the election of the first ruler, and has managed well the resources of the rich city. He started the Easterner Traders' Guild to promote trade in the midlands of Eastern Dwilight, was the major sponsor of all nobles of Aquilegia, and the sponsor of the Chersonis Themata. As the first duke, the majority of advances to the city were overseen by him, and it was by his financial support that Garret was able to build the Palace of the Stars, an imperial palace on the opposite end of the city from the ducal palace.

Flow

Velox Anima 02/17/09-04/14/09

The lordship of Flow was apparently promised to Vos de Zorro, and Duke Adriddae supported it. However, when the region was taken, he moved back to Flowrestown, and the Asterion could not appoint him. Seeing how the morale and loyalty of Flow were wavering while teh people starved, Garret decided to take the first of his two executive actions, the other being the appointment of Vesuvis as judge, to place Velox as temporary Marquis of Flow. Under Marquis Anima, some facilities were created. For a very long time, Flow served as the rally point to defend Flowrestown from invasion. As such, the region was riddled with bloodshed for a while.

Vos de Zorro 04/14/09-Present

In the late summer of the sixth year, Vos became impatient when, after the securing of Turbul, he did not get the title of Marquis of Flow. Marquis Anima accused the Fiduciary of ignoring his offers twice, and Asterion Artemesia made a similar complaint. The Fiduciary denied this, and an internal investigation was made to determine why letters sent by the two men never reached the Fiduciary. There has been no conclusive evidence to suggest anything yet. However, the Fiduciary assured the realm that he would be active in the realm's discussions, and in light of his past services, Garret initiated a public vote for the transfer of Flow. Vos won the election.

Turbul

Mervin Vetinari 04/03/09-Present

The election of Turbul was the first serious public vote in Aquilegia, and democracy spoke when Mervin was chosen by a large majority vote. He was appointed to Turbul by the Asterion, and immediately the region became the new buffer region.
