Norrel Family Crest.

House Norrel 

The Norrel family hails from Slantrax of Atamara. Until recently the house was only a part of the minor nobility, until the most recent generation was spurred into ambition. The family motto is "Invictus Maneo" - "I remain unvanquished", indicative of a sense of stubborn pride held my many members of the family.

The family crest is the head of a roaring tiger, wreathed in roses. Two bald eagles hold the family motto aflight beside the tiger, and a double-edged steel bastard sword is under the crest, hilt at the top. (Highres version)

James Norrel

The patriarch of the house, he is the father of Gilbert, William, Elizabeth, Bayard, Jeffrey, and Maria. Once serving as a captain in the Eston military, he was wounded by a stray arrow in his first month of service and had to retire from duty, instead forcing his ambitions on his descendants.

James is known for his cruelty, directed both towards outsiders and towards his own family. His wild ambition but personal abilities have made him shoulder all of that ambition onto his children, all of whom were shoehorned into playing towards what James saw as their strengths.

Mary Norrel

Not much is known of James' wife, other than that she had accomplished no notable deeds, and that she frequently falls into fevers that no other member of the house is willing to speak of. When in public, she is quiet and obedient, and scarcely makes eye contact with anyone but her children.

Gilbert Norrel

The eldest of James' descendants, Gilbert is a sombre and serious man, currently fighting the invasion of Beluaterra in Melhed. He has accomplished no notable deeds as of his introduction to high nobility. He has black hair, and grey eyes. He is often described (behind his back) as being gruesomely ugly- his face is misshapen, warted and asymmetric, and his eyes seems to be misaligned. He also stands far lower than his siblings.

On January 18th, 2012, Gilbert was tortured by Overlord. He remembers nothing of the night save for momentary glimpses, but awoke without a left eye.

William Norrel

William is quick to anger, bound to honour, and full of blood lust. He was once a member of Cathay, and the Marshal of the Guardian Lion, a defensive army. He is now a knight serving in Toupellon. He prefers to use a long sword and kite shield. He is known for wearing armor gilded with gold, with his family's crest emblazoned on the chest. On September 10, 2011, he fought Stephanie Greyson in a duel to surrender, and won, after days of feuding between the two over several matters. He is an avid artist, and is the one who invented his family's newest crest design.

Elizabeth Norrel

Cast out of the family at the age of 22, she has sought out a life of adventure in the East Continent, with the intent of being issued a grant of nobility. Two notable discoveries of hers were the Elemental Aegis and the Weird Belt. She seems to be in a state of delusion about her current poverty, and has been known to duel other adventurers over the slightest insult to her "nobility". She uses a hefty battleaxe, and a dagger, stolen from the family armory, named Fury. She is currently in hiding after angering a group of bandits.

Jeffrey Norrel

The second youngest Norrel currently in active duty, he thinks himself a charmer. Delighting in intrigue and the company of women, Jeffrey is the Lord of Santoo, of Pian En Luries. He is feverishly devoted to the Manifest Path, and is openly hostile to those who forsake it. He is known for political feuding, though most of his enemies have now left for Solaria. He is gifted with a shortsword, and it is the only weapon he uses.

Maria Norrel

Maria is a girl of 17 years. She is polite, calm, and courteous. She was raised in her family home in Eston, but spent many of her teenage years in Pian En Luries, where she helped her brother, Jeffrey, with day-to-day affairs. After Pian was invaded on two fronts, she Fled to the Far East.
