Flag

MhedFlag.PNG The flag of Mhed is customarily flown below Fronen's flag in all regions in the duchy

The white background represents the snow Mhed is noted for. The blue cross represents the sea, vital to the Mhedian economy and Mhed's resistance towards its enemies and the enemies of the Republic. The yellow in the center represents Mhed's continued loyalty to Fronen (whose flag is mainly yellow). Lastly, the gull in the is the symbolic bird of the city. It also alludes to he sea and Mhedian love of exploration.

Nobility

The hierarchy of the Duchy of Mhed currently breaks down like this:

Mhed - Duke Alexius
   * City of Mhed - Duke Alexius,
     Alexis, Corvus, Glenn, Black Fox
   * Trottie - Countess Minerva,
   * Ieara - Count Trumpet
     Saintly
   * Bisana - Count Bronhogen
     Jaden

Districts

The city of Mhed is a bustling metropolis on the northern border of the Republic of Fronen. The city is divided into 5 major districts.

Government Square

Government Square is the situated in the Heart of Mhed, atop a large hill. Here is where the Duke's Palace is located as well as the city library. This place is the center of th ducal bureaucracy and is frequented by all sorts of people. The nobility have their estates here. The large extravagant manors hold not only nobles, but their retainers, scribes, servants etc. Because it is a wealthy district, beggars are commonplace here.

Right in front of the gates to the Duke's Palace is a small public park. In it's center is a monument. The monument had four equestrian statues looking inward at one another, one for each of Mhed's four most recent Dukes, Cedric, Enzeru, Tiridius and Alexius. However, during Black January, Republican soldiers toppled the sculpture of Enzeru. The space remains vacant to be filled by a later Duke. The statues look inward a a large slab on which the laws of the Republic and the Laws of the Duchy are written.

This is second oldest district in the city.

The Port

The Port District is where Mhed first began. Mhed was a small fishing village that grew exponentially after a local lord offered money to anyone who'd settle there. The Port is located along the coast of Mhed. It is where the docks are located. In this district one can see ships coming in and out the harbor. Mhed is a major trading center.

The port is the seediest part of the city. There are multiple inns, taverns, and houses of ill repute frequented by sailors and some locals. There are dark twisting alleyways where thieves and smugglers are occasionally found. Other than that, there is little to see in the port. There are a lot of poorer residences here and although there are many inns, most noble visitors will either stay with a local noble, or find an inn in a different district.

Financial Center

The Financial Center is a small district in the south of Mhed. The elevation here is low like the Port district, and unlike Government Square. Here is where the merchants and tradesmen live. The types of people here are generally better off than the average commoner, but less wealthy than the nobles. Multiple trade guilds like the Shearer's Guild or the Guild of Metalworker's can be found in this district.

Also notable in this area is Fronen's National Treasury. This noble-run guild should not be confused with Fronen's National Reserve. This guild functions and a center for business transactions between the adventurer's and nobility. Because of its location, many antique shops and stalls exhibiting rare relics are found in this part of this city. However, its often difficult to tell the difference between actual rarities and forgeries or fake items. Like Government Square, the Financial Center also has multiple beggars. As one would expect, the beggars are drawn to wealth.

Cedric's Hill

Cedric's Hill is named after Cedric, the popular former Duke of Mhed (also the former Grand Justiciar and former Prime Minister of Fronen). Cedric's Hill is located on a small hill west of Government Square. Cedric's Hill is a cultural center of Fronen. Charming cobblestone streets are laced through the district. It is in this district that Mhed's only temple, dedicated to Great Dragon can be found. Here distinct architectural styling such as the use of the ogee arch can be seen.

This district is filled with all types of artists, bards, actors, painters, sculptors et cetera. Cheap, interesting artwork makes this part of the city a popular tourist attraction. Tourism is a source of income for some here. Tourists come from the middle and upper classes. Inns here are less numerous but of higher quality than those in the port. Furthermore, this district is relatively safe compared to the Port, and has a large park and a pond. The pond freezes in the winter and can be skated upon. Also in winter, carts replace their wheels with sledge runners as to better traverse snowy pathways. A sleigh ride around Cedric's Hill is an activity almost all tourists try.

Cedric's Hill is in no way rich, but it one of the most pleasant, colorful parts of Mhed.

North Rampart

The North Rampart is the last district of the city. This district is where Mhed's protective Fortress is located. To the north of the fortress and the protective walls is a small plain on the border between Fronen and Melhed. Here is where Mhed's troops are recruited and trained. Mhedian Riders are trained on the plain, while Mhedian Falxmen and Dragon's Flame Archers practice in and around the fortress.

Behind the walls in the Northern Rampart District, many forges making weapons, armor and tools can be found. Thus it is often very smoky and unpleasant here. This district, like the port is incredibly poor.
