Björn Family
History
The Björn family have lived in the region of Alaise for generations, however they have only recently raised to the status of nobility on Atamara. The Björn family originally hails from Makar, but were forced to flee during a particularly bloody feud with another family. When they arrived in Alaise (then part of Drachenwald), they were destitute peasents who were forced into serfdom in order to survive. However, due to a great deal of luck, they were able to claw their way out of such a menial life and became a fairly prominent merchant family in the region, bartering in livestock and metalwork.
However, as prominent as they were in their region, and as well off as they were, their lack of noble blood set them apart from the rest of the Great Houses of the Realm. While most of the family was perfectly content to continue to trade in their own small commercial empire in Alaise, a few of them wished to spread their wings and show that the Björn's have the claws of their namesake.
Notable Members
Recently, three young members of the family have liquidated their shares in the company business to try their luck in the world.
The first of these, Leif, wished to make his name in the world but decided to stay close to home to do it as he was the closest to his family. He swore himself and his personal retainers to the service of the local Viscountess of Alaise. Since then, he has participated in the failed assault on Nazgorn in the Cagilian-Falasani War where he was almost killed along with his soldiers. He is currently waiting with the rest of the Eaglin Eagles for the next great assault against their Falasani enemies.
His brother Nils, however, felt that Atamara did not allow him the chance for upward movement that he greatly desired, and he headed to Calis where he jumped the first ship off the continent, eventually landing in Madina on Dwilight. Taken under the wing of a local Baron, Nils was shown the ropes of how to manage an estate in the fresh young duchy and made a name for himself in fighting Monsters. It was after a particularly bloody battle in the province of Lugagun where he met Baldur of the House of Mekorig and became entranced with his dream of founding a new nation to the north of the Continent. Seeing his opportunity to forge a name for himself, Nils joined Baldur and his fellow nobles on their experiment.
The final member of the Björn family to try to make his way in the world, Sven, is actually an adoptee into the family. Taken in when he was found wandering in the forests of Alaise near the Björn family home at the age of 7, Sven had no memory of his past life. From his accent, he hails from Eston and it is presumed that his family were all killed by the monsters or undead that periodically crop up in the region. Always talented in numbers, Sven decided to head to the capital of Cagil where he could make a name for himself as one of that cities bureaucrats.
