Amidst the forests, amidst the plains and therein on the coast is a sight to behold - Aix. As a regional center of knowledge, civilization and trade, the city united the smaller lands in its vicinity and thusly formed the Duchy of Aix. Surrounded by a high stone fortress, the city has repelled the barbaric onslaughts and sieges throughout the ages. It has long been a vassal of the Crown of Perdan, and as such the perdanese culture is most defined in Aix, but through conquest of steel the city has ultimately sworn vassalage to the Church of Ibladesh when it became the capital of Diocese of Aix.

History

Aix has been a historical bastion of Perdan, periodically being turned in periods of extreme turmoil but always returning to Perdan. For a time, Aix was the capital of Perdan and the monarchy whilst Perdan City was occupied by foreign forces, and it maintains a number of traditions from this time period, namely units with Royal assent, and the presence of the Duke of Aix in the military chain of command.

In recent times, the city was ruled with an iron-fist by Duke Banetal, leaving the city a depressed shadow of its glory as the capital of Perdan. With the mysterious disappearance of Duke Banetal in mid-1020, King Smiddich appointed Lucius Poe, former Judge-Magister of Perdan to the position of Duke in commemoration of his service to the realm. The people of Aix are cautiously optimistic about this appointment, having lived under a reign of terror for so long under Duke Banetal.

Along with the rest of the Duchy of the Grand Court, during the Perdan-Perleone war of Early 1021, the city's allegiance was switched from Perdan to Perleone by Duke Lucius Poe. It was soon returned by the Duke following the cessation of hostilities between the two kingdoms, but amidst the carnage of Queen Alyssa being protested out of her rulership, leadership elections, and ensuing controversy over King Richard de Brey's diplomatic approach, Duke Lucius Poe remained unpunished for what some described as treason. He stepped down from the lordship of the city in preparation for punishment, but left the realm some weeks afterward northwards when judgement was not passed by the King or Judge-Magister.

The Imperator of Perdan, the young Earl of Brive Daario Vulparan, was appointed by King Richard to the role of Duke of the Grand Court and was appointed the Margrave of Aix hours afterward.
