Monford stood at the helm of the large cohort that made their way for Alebad. A liberation force just shy from 2.000 soldier were gallantly marching at the sound of the war drums, singing songs of the south and gearing up for the next day's carnage. An army that was rarely seen in this part of the world, one bought with Portionite gold and reinforced by Oritolon's honorable pledge. It was a good day to be alive for the banners of almost all the men and women dear to him were here. He was ecstatic and eager to go for the kill. The reaving Fatmilak that still hid in the shadows deep within him was not gone. And was now screaming for blood.

The Doge was also satisfied. Months of political work and carefully treading over the complicated political landscape of the Colonies payed off. He has proven his political potential and convincing acumen as the array of those that will stand against Outer Tilog stretched all the way to the north, to Wetham. He hated the Tilogians with passion immeasurable. Hating was being alive and for him there was no greater rush of adrenaline than riding for revenge and death.

In the middle of the circle of hate stood Johannes von Lunkhofen. A thorn in his crown, a degenerate poltroon that ripped Alebad from Halcyon's womb and gave it to the wolves and wargs of Outer Tilog. But the time has finally arrived. Judgement day, day when the great hunt for this wretch begins. "I am coming for you and I am going to kill you. I will flay you alive and stretch your skin from Alebad to Abaka. Your soul is mine." The Doge hissed like a snake and then rushed his horse forward eager for tomorrow's clash.

The Doge was infuriated. "What do you mean you can't find him?! He can't just disappear!" The servants bowed their heads down, trying to come up with some explanation why Johannes was stilling hiding in the city but was not brought before justice. "My Lord, perhaps he is in the sewers. His kind could feel like home there. We will send more search parties." Monford sternly replied "Yes, yes, that makes sense. Thoroughly search the sewers. There will be a lot of rats there but this one should be the fattest of them all. In the meantime, bring me his collaborators. They're about to have a meeting with the burning phoenix."

"What do you mean he escaped?!"

The Doge was clearly on the edge as he barked at the servants.

"We have almost the whole city at our disposal and you want to tell me that you have lost someone as familiar and recognizable as Johannes? The man is a large pig engorged in gold, surely he isn't hard to spot!" Monford slammed his fist on the table.

"Your Majesty, it is entirely possible that he simply found a way to evacuate the city during the siege. Several merchant vessels are missing. A man of his position could find a hole or two to sneak through our barricades." One of the servants suggested.

"Yes, yes...I know he has deep pockets and many connections. We can't discard the chance that he is running away to Outer Tilog, either." The Doge grumbled as he called for more wine. The servant "boy" that brought the wine to his tent was an unusual fellow. Clearly an aged man, grey hair and fat as Johannes would be. The similarity was unbelievable.

"Who is this?" Monford asked.

"No one, Your Majesty, just a man with the wine." one of the servants replied.

"What is your name, man with the wine?"

"I am Oink, mulowd...I beg your forgiv..."

"Nonsense, old man! You are a welcoming sight, more than you can imagine." The Doge lavishly invited the man to approach. "I have a proposition for you and I think you will accept."

Sun rose above Alebad as the main city square echoed with shouts sand voices of an angry mob. Large numbers of citizens of Alebad flocked to the main stage that was set for the execution of the city's greatest betrayer - Johannes von Lunkhofen - satirically named by the commoner Johannes the Pig. The city's heralds spent the last day or so announcing the news that the liberation force captured the betrayer who was now being taken for the delivery of his sentence. Death by being burned alive.

As the unruly crowd grew restless and impatient the trumpets sounded off and the guards made room for the arrival of the prisoner. Silence covered the main city square immediately as the fat man in chains was being escorted towards the stage where he will meet his execution. Behind them a strong suite of Halcyon's aristocratic cream followed with the Grand Doge himself heading the procession and raising his hands in the air to greet the crowd.

Nobles took their seats on the stage while the prisoner was being taken to and then tied to a pyre. An executioner then took the torch and lit the branches and wood below his feet. The branches started to combust and fire began to spread throughout the wooden heap. The prisoner's mouth was covered rendering him unable to speak, yet the raging crowd could see him twitching as the lingering flames began to reach towards his bare feet. The crowd cheered onward, ever happy and satisfied as they began throwing rocks and stones at him, cursing his name and what he represented.

The executioner then took a bucket of oil and splashed it over his entire body. The unrelenting fire now began to spread all over him as he jerked and shook. His skin was melting as his eyes panicked in anguish and fear. A smell of burning flesh swept over the stage and the crowd now erupted in total madness and ecstasy. BURN! BURN! BURN! They chanted as the pyre raged on, its fiery tongues rising high in the air. Moments later all that remained was a blackened figure, deprived of any life or meaning.

The Doge satisfyingly ordered the figure to be removed and ground to dust. He then proclaimed the beginning of festivities and celebrations. Finally, after months of weeping the citizens of Alebad once again rejoiced, ushering a new era for the city. The Doge smiled as he left the stage. Justice was served. A very hot one.
