Preamble

Oaths

The realm of Asylon has a strong oath system, designed to guide the actions of her knights and bring order to the realm. A knight must have given a valid and binding oath, recorded by the judge, in order to be eligible for positions within the realm, and to participate fully in votes.

Required Oaths

Two separate oaths are required in order to be considered a full member of Asylon. These oaths must follow a prescribed format, or be approved by the judge in order to be registered as valid oaths by the realm. The Realm considers these oath to supersede all other oaths made by a Knight, including previous oaths to Lords, Duke and Rulers of other realms, oaths to a religion and oaths to a guild.

Oath to the Ruler

The first oath required of a Knight is the oath of Loyality to the Ruler of Asylon. This oath is given to the position of the Ruler, not the individual currently ruling the realm.

Oath to a Liege

The second oath is an oath to a liege Lord in order to establish an estate. This oath is not required by knights that do not wish to manage an estate.

Being Released from an Oath

A knight that wishes to swear loyalty to a new Lord, or a knight that has been given a Lordship. In order to be realised from their current liege oath, the Knight should send a request to their liege requesting to be released. If the Liege agrees both parties are required to request that the Judge updates the oath to reflect this.

If a Liege refuses to release a Knight from their oath, the Knight may take the matter to the Judge, who is empowered to make a decision based upon the individual case.
