Emblem of Tofino.

Situated on the western end of the Echiur Peninsula, Tofino is as far west as one can travel in dwilight without getting wet. With water on three sides the plains are no stranger to wind and rain which greatly aid Tofino's primary industries: fishing and farming. Two large natural bays dominate the coastline, and in the old days of the Ancient Echiur Dynasty, Tofino was well known for having the finest fish in all of The Far West, and the old men of the Tofino tribe used to tell of how those two bays, once absent, where brought into being by the bravery and cunning of a great shaman.

Tale of the Seasnake and the Shaman

Before the Echiur Dynasty, a terrible seasnake as big as a river once ruled the coast and forbid passage. But one day, a wise wrinkled old shaman stood on the coast and yelled to the serpent asking what it is he wanted. To the people's horror he said human meat was all that satisfied, but the shaman had a plan and asked for 42 people to help. To each one he gave a sack of magical earth pulled from the dirt of Tofino and blessed by the shaman. On the first day the snake was given half of these tribesmen to eat, and on the second the other half were eaten. On the third day however, the Shaman spoke to the seasnake and told him to rest along the coast, as the sacrifice was soon coming. As the snake rubbed against the land his body became stuck to the earth of Tofino for in the two places where the previous days feast now resided the shaman's magic held the snake fast. As the days and years passed that magical earth further hardened and the rest of his body died of starvation. slowly the body turned completely to land forming the lower and upper peninsulas, and to this day if asked a question he doesn't know the answer to a Tofian will confidently reply '42'.
