Are the banners supposed to be user created? --The1exile 16:33, 19 August 2007 (CEST)

You'd think so. -- Shenron 16:46, 19 August 2007

Hm. Most of the ones already here are ripped from google images. --The1exile 17:02, 19 August 2007 (CEST)

Doesn't that present possible serious copyright issues? I mean, many real crests will be public domain, but if you just rip it straight from Google Images without checking, there's no way of knowing for sure. --Anaris 17:04, 19 August 2007 (CEST)
Whoa.... that last one definitely ain't from google...... -- Shenron 17:11, 19 August 2007

How come some one created a flag citing "tom sucks" and placed it in my name? ... Rather childish since its just a contest to a online game. SC.XV

ouch :D --M2rt 17:16, 19 August 2007 (CEST)

They keep on replacing it .. Really what is the point its obviously not mine if you look at the link and i can't believe nayone would be so petty... SC.XV

If he does it again he'll be blocked. --The1exile 17:18, 19 August 2007 (CEST)
As he continued it here as well, he's been blocked for a week. --The1exile 17:21, 19 August 2007 (CEST)

What was the name of the account? ... I only now maybe 2 people who'd bother trying to "sabotage" me and i have my suspicions. SC.XV

  • Someone named Wensile. ...I can't wait for Dwilight to open! --V2Blast 17:42, 19 August 2007 (CEST)

I can't wait either ... But 4 realms to span across the entire continent ... unless of course they control a few regions and have to take over others if it is just 4 realms spanning the entire continent i can't wait to see there income and when theres only going to be a couple people there in the early stages .... SC.XV

  • Oh, don't worry, I'm sure there'll be chaos after everyone gets used to it... I like some of the more technologically advanced banners; the MS Paint ones, on the other hand... somehow, I don't think most will make the cut. --V2Blast 02:33, 23 August 2007 (CEST)
Most realms start with 3 regions, Madina with 2. I know quit a few more very interesting things too, but I wouldn't want to spoil everyone's surprise. Well, that is, anyone who'se not on IRC. ;) -Chénier 02:43, 23 August 2007 (CEST)

Early Feedback

Some early feedback for people to make corrections:

  • Please remember that it needs to be on a black background! This Wiki has a white background...
  • Please include the icons as well.
  • Do not make the banners too large. Some of the larger ones currently suggested are definitely too large. Just scale them down, please.
  • On the source issue: If you take a banner from somewhere else, please add the source. I'll add that to the rules.

--Tom 18:22, 19 August 2007 (CEST)

What about a blank background like mind that can go on black or white? -- Shenron 5:27 20 August 2007
Yeah. I did mine kind of quickly and used Transparency for the background like we're supposed to when making the banners normally. Guess it was an oversight on my part, unless it's alright.
You can't do transparency in JPG. So it has to be a .png. If it absolutely has to, that'd be ok, but since I can't tell from just looking at the page... put it on black background, just to be sure. It's not like the BM core design would change. :-) --Tom 16:44, 20 August 2007 (CEST)

Page Split ?

If there are more submissions, we might have to split the page, maybe open up a "Submissions 2" page or something? Or split by realm (with one page for "any") or any other way. --Tom 22:52, 19 August 2007 (CEST)

Hmm... maybe split into "user creations" and "googled images"? :-) --Tom 23:02, 19 August 2007 (CEST)

How about also having "Old Realm Banners (additional stuff optional)"? --The1exile 00:16, 20 August 2007 (CEST)

No need yet i am scaling down my images by quiet alot. SC.XV

Hello all,

I have seen the banners and read realm descriptions. Some banners are really great, others are greatly thought but not as well-done, and some of them I thought could go for different realms than proposed. So I'd like to start a discussion on the themes for each realm, if you people also think it can be useful. :) Of course dragons, lions, eagles, swords, crosses can be used for any realm, for tradition as well as the meaning of those symbols, but I'd just want to draw a line on each realm's personality, according to their geographic description. I tried to give each realm at least two possible points of view.

Springdale

Situated in the fertile north, grasslands and plains. Large cities and impressive townslands. Few forests, much coastline. Springdale is a monarchy.

Can be related to fertility, wide spaces, sun light, prosperity (not only food-wise, but in technology), large cities and big population. Possibly great intellectual production.

Morek

Similar to Springdale in the landscape, but fewer and smaller cities in the area, a more rural community. Morek is a theocracy.

Can be related to rural areas, wide spaces, small towns, hard field work (as opposed to intellectual work), religion (all sorts of symbols here), simple people, animals related to the land.

Pian en Luries

Near the mountains, near the badlands. Capital on the coast. A white city. Pian is a monarchy realm.

Mountains, badlands, difficult life, night, fortresses, animals that survive in harsh territories, the white city in the coast, fighting people.

Madina

On the southern coast. Hills and forests nearby. Islands and shiplanes, a bit of a frontier place and the only republic.

Intellectual production, technological advance, equality among people, sea routes, the sea itself, the tower in the canal, woodlands (the sea routes and lots of wood - hm, sound like the phoenicians), cliff over the sea, people with a more adventurous spirit, someone might want to focus on the desert near by, palm trees, people connected to the dirt.

--Now you people, what do you think? --Bluelake 20:28, 21 August 2007 (CEST)

That actually gave me an idea about Madina... But then again, seing as this is a contest, I don't really want to share it unless GIMP brings me to a point of utter frustration... which is rather likely, considering how I'm doing with it right now... -Chénier 01:01, 22 August 2007 (CEST)
Great, Chénier, this was a part of what I was looking for. :) To bring more ideas for personalizing the banners. ^^ So, good luck on your work, and if you happen to be frustrated, share it with the rest of us! ^^ I won't be of much help graphic-wise, but... :)--Bluelake 07:21, 22 August 2007 (CEST)
GIMP is the devil... Plus I'm, for the most part, un-inspired. Gotta kick my friend into making me some concept art... -Chénier 17:10, 22 August 2007 (CEST)
Okay, I give up. Can't do banners, I'll do icons only. The description of Madina made me think of the turtle. Everything about it made me think of the turtle. I also though local folklore might believe that the whole island is actually one giant turtle that is sleeping, Tower Fatmilak being on it's head. A turtle so giant and that had stayed motionless for so long that vegetation and civilization developped on it, you know. ;) Now, on to make icons... so much simpler when the pic is 24px. -Chénier 18:44, 22 August 2007 (CEST)

Deadline

When is the ultimate deadline? and am I still on time if I would send a submission today? --Vlad 09:53, 27 August 2007 (CEST)

You'll be ok. I'll do it when I get around to doing it. As long as the contest isn't marked as closed, it's still open. --Tom 20:59, 27 August 2007 (CEST)
