Silesian Family/Merthin
Merthin Silesian was the firstborn of Sir Antonio and his beautiful wife, Helena. Raised on the manor of Grabina in the land of Silesia, he lived most of his life in the Cagilan Empire.
Childhood
In the age of 15 he was sent to his Celtic uncle, Sir Newell of Law, to be his squire. While abroad, he learnt that his homeland was invaded by restless Mongols, who killed his father and took his mother and sister as captives. Merthin returned to Grabina only to discover burnt remains of his village. The only consolation was that his sister managed to escape the Mongols and hid in the woods. Merthin was now the head of his family, but didn't have any means to support himself and his sister. He decided to marry her off to a Viking jarl Jen of Seaby. Securing his sister's future he set out to search a better life for himself. He thought of returning to his uncle in the lands of the Celts, but decided not be dependent on anyone and wandered from county to county offering his services to anyone that would pay a few talars. A year of travels and occasional fights hardened him, but the life of a vagabond was not especially appealing to him. His fate changed when he arrived to the Cagilan Empire, located in Atamara
New life in Atamara
Soon upon arriving, Sir Velkyn Xen, Earl of Esgalons in the Duchy of Nida offered to be his liege. Merthin swore the oath of allegiance to the Earl and got a small estate and a troop of 21 Infantry Men. Esgalons is a wonderful rural region and its people are very friendly and will be happy to talk to anyone visiting their region and to give them the tour of the surroundings.
Upon taking his estate and setting orders for the servant, Merthin traveled to Cagil and then was assigned to the Pax Cagila army, under Marshal Merlin Silverfire. During his travel he met a stranger who told that Merthin's cousin, Caris, arrived in Vornion. Eager as he was to meet her, he had duties in the army. He would see Caris later.
Military Career
Merthin's first military campaign was rather boring. Marching into mountains, a skirmish with some monsters, then razing fortifications of Belegmon and finally helping to make Nazia part of the Cagilan Empire. More toil and work than fighting, but such were the orders. Merthin was very keen on showing discipline and obeyed the Marshal. The second campaign finally included an encounter with the enemy. It was however more a skirmish than a battle, as the enemy was outnumbered.
