Summer's Almost Gone
Part II

The people began to organize tents around the temple. For seven days and seven nights they would stay there to respect the sacred mourning of Lady Carina. The family elders that Gregor had rescued in Atamara and was brought to Abilotiel were there to receive the gifts and honor the couple. As expected on such occasions, many noble visitors will came to give their condolences to the Baron and Minister of Finances of Ohnar West. Maybe even emissaries from another realms would bring the condolences of their Lords. Everything should be ready to receive such visits.

Inside the temple the priests were preparing the altar and lit the pyres to burn incense and aromatic oils. The priestesses prepared the special room where the body would be prepared for the funeral rites. Gregor entered the temple with his wife in his arms and fired her with an amorous kiss on her pale lips.

Some people wondered why the temple had been renovated and expanded so many times in a region like Abilotiel. Maybe now they understand that this effort was to ensure a proper mausoleum for a beloved wife. Something worthy of the Gods and where the Goddess Senith would manifests Herself to sing one last eulogy.

Gregor left his wife in the care of the priestesses and walked outside to receive the condolences of his people. Although he maintained the austerity, a growing pain clutched his heart and froze his chest. The concept of time became distorted in his mind and it was difficult to see the faces around him while all he really saw were memories of long years. The tender moments of a life full of love and devotion. It was hard to imagine that he would return to an empty room and lie in an empty bed. That he would not feel anymore the scent of a woman resting on his arms. That he would not have anyone else to receive him at home with the aroma of dinner in the kitchen and loving hands to wash the blood of battles. His children would not have anymore a patient mother to educate them. He was alone.

And alone he abandoned the voices behind him and walked toward the coastal escarpments where the sea lashed the rocks. Under the faint glow of the moon and watching the stars he finally knew that his wife was gone. Inside the temple there was only her body at eternal rest. Her soul now belonged to heaven. Inspired by Senith, the old hero whispered a lullaby. A final and sincere full of love farewell.

Where, oh, where have you been my love?

Where, oh, where can you be?

It's been so long, since the moon has gone.

And, oh, what a wreck you've made me.

Are you there over the ocean?

Are you there, up in the sky?

Until the return of my love

This lullabye

My Hope is on the horizon

Every face, it's your eyes I can see

I plead, I pray through each night & day

Our embrace is only a dream.

And as sure as days come from moments

Each hour becomes a life's time

When she'd left, I'd only began this lullabye...
