Into the Wild

After a small ceremony to appoint the new Lord of Limbar, Erik avoided the crowd. The Judge of Sirion and Duke of Avamar had a serious and cold stance. He was tired after the last days. Too much noise. He wondered how much time and effort would be needed to change the attitudes of the past few days. Some merchants approached of Erik while he as watching the woods. They spoke, but the Duke didn’t hear them. And when he awoke he was alone with the shady trees. Hearing the song of the wind. He was undressing the heavy clothes, staying just with the Ucdauh's Cloak of Piety and the Ruron's Shield of Protection sleeping on his back. He wielded the Sacred Sword and walked barefoot until a beautiful bed of leaves in a glen under the moonlight.

Erik doesn’t felt Elune for a long time. And despite the bloody battles, he didn’t fell Ora in Her warrior face crying for enemy blood. Erik Eyolf Serpentis was alone. Without the protection and blesses of his beloved Goddess and disgraced among his brothers and sisters. At least those who care. He threw the heavy shield on the ground and stripped off his cloak, making a kind of pillow over the shield. He sank the Sacred Sword in the holy ground and lay there, quiet. In complete silence. Erik could hear the sound of the wind dancing over his body in a gentle caress. When the scattered clouds revealed the night sky, he watched the constellations like when he was just a little elf. The dragon. The unicorn. The serpent. He sang:

It hurts to set you free

But you'll never follow me

The end of laughter and soft lies

This is the end...

He closed his eyes. Entering the big sleep. Crossing the gates of Arcadia. Into the wild dreams. He felt a female hand caressing his face. Warm lips kissing his forehead. She sang like his mother sang one day:

Strange days have found us.

Strange days have tracked us down.

They're going to destroy

Our casual joys.

We shall go on playing or find another town.

Strange days have found us

And through their strange hours

We linger alone,

Bodies confused, memories misused,

As we run from the day

To a strange night of stone...

Erik sank into the wild. Like in an endless fever. He saw himself training in his childhood with his brother Karl. Laughters and wooden swords dueling fast. Racing through the streets of Slimbar. And then he saw the Great Halls where his honored enemies were waiting for him to fight eternal struggles. But not that day. Not that night. And when he woke up, the problems would still be waiting for him.
