Cousins

Myka had legitimate reasons for his paranoia. Maybe Petrov was not the best person to ask about Erik. Anywhere inside and outside the borders he could ask about that name and everything would be a reason to worry him. The first meeting was short. Erik just laid his eyes on his young cousin and let her admire his elven heritage. Something completely different to what she even imagined in her dreams when his father told about that strange kinfolk. It was a moment of mutual observations.

The young cousin received a beautiful room in the Ivory Tower. Erik even allowed that two White Guardians alternated turns to protect the door and follow the young Lady. Yet, these two were always being watched by two Stormwalkers. The difference between the soldiers in name and clothing was very obvious.

In the Hieros Gamos she was invited to join a special cortege to the temple and witness the first rites. It was impossible for her not make comparisons. She had left the White City as a child and was forced to grow up in a humble property of Abilotiel, a rough and swampy region. And even after she married and witnessed the rise of her husband, was very difficult to understand the opulence that Erik had around him. He was not human like her.

There was no calmness that could last. The Silver Dragon returned from his nuptial night and ceremoniously ordered an interview. Obviously, the presence of bodyguards didn’t impress him. He dismissed the Stormwalkers and kept the twin blades leaning on his throne. Erik was still one of the best swordsmen of Sirion and like everything else he showed that talent with the usual arrogance. Some servants brought a comfortable armchair and placed it over a beautiful carpet. Somewhat impressed, Iris sat down and received a chalice of red wine.

Erik was always curious about his family. He knows that essentially, they were heroes. Gregor had risen to avenge his brother Vinatyfir, killed in a duel. He was hero of Ikalak until the whole island was devoured by the ocean. These were stories that he wanted to know. From his ascension until an unfortunate death in Far-East. About his first victories against Toren Stronghold, the departure to Far-East and his time defending Papania and Ohnar West. Erik sat for hours while the servants kept the glasses filled. When she finished, he realized that his family was completely fragmented. Gregor had moved the family mansion to Abilotiel where he thought the family would be safe after long years isolated in Chato (Atamara), but with his death only the youngest son had remained there to protect the place while the older brother traveled to Atamara and Dwilight.

The elf didn’t seem concerned with her marital issues. In a first moment that didn’t rise his curiosity, but he obviously showed interest after the stories were waning. Iris seemed happy with her marriage. Unlike the women of his family, she seemed resigned to a quiet life, forgoing a higher position in exchange for interests that united families, fortunes and common goals. Serpentis and Vykos were chained by the blood. Gregor obviously knew what he done, but the old hero was dead. He had been a family patron because of his age and experience, but his death opened a place that need to be occupied. Erik and Yeux were the only ones who could compete for the title... and the Duke of Avamar certainly wanted that honor. For a moment his draconian eyes studied the young wife. The union of such pure lineages would give him legitimate rights to lead the family. Heirs of pure blood would give to the Serpentis another impressive lineage. That was a tempting idea.

Erik Eyolf: “I'm glad with your visit, my dear. I hope you stay here while your husband tries to solve his problems. I believe you stay here until he returns. We still have a lot to talk...”

Erik didn’t care about Myka. With Gregor’s death, the elf believed that nobody else had sovereign powers over his family. The old agreements would have to be studied by him now. His word must be the last. The couple didn’t know yet, but now they were hostages and Erik will free them from their new obligations only when he had all the interesting information to help him is his new intentions. Iris could not complain of her prison because soon the bard began to sing and dancers invaded the hall. Erik smiled mischievously, enjoying his wine and thinking about the future.
