Melhed/History/Age of Reason/Aldo Unti

Coming to rule after the Iron Emperor, Tsu Sun, Aldo Unti began a transition that resulted in the Republic. This was finalized when he stepped down as God-Emperor and the Senate took the role of God-Emperor. He continued to serve as Consul of the Senate, occasionally interrupted by others temporarily taking the role. He eventually disappeared in late 2009, but it is said he still influences events behind the scenes.

Timeline

Aldo's involvement in Melhed spanned three ages, from the Age of Blood to the Age of Betrayal. He was the one largely responsible for the Age of Reason.

Age of Blood

• Arrival of Aldo Unti, Morgan Darby, Bob Baceolus
• After Rubeus the Mad's war against Fronen fails and Fronen decimates Melhed's army, Aldo, Morgan, and Bob rally what little remains of the army and attempt to stem the tide.
• Aldo spends time as Grand Justicar under the reign of Emperor Tsu.
• Aldo is appointed Grand General under the reign of Emperor Tsu.
• Grand General Aldo Unti despatches the Melhed army to intercept a Fronen raid on Ar Agyr, setting off the war between the Defensive Alliance and the North.
  • The North started as Ar Agyr, Melhed, Old Grehk and Voghor based in Zod but Old Grehk and Voghor pulled out before the fighting began.
  • The Defensive Alliance consisted of Republic of Fronen, Democracy of Mesh based in Poitra, Democracy of Enwiel, Deomcracy of Riombara based in Rines, Democracy of Ashborn based in Keffa, Democracy of Plergoth based in Creasur, Democracy of Marca da Pantera based in Tahgalez
  • The dawn of the war found the North armies in Qual, while the Defensive Alliance mustered in Lloringel.
  • Ar Agyr and Melhed attack Lloringel, but moving is slow through mountain regions and infiltrators split up half the army. The Melhed and Ar Agyr army is destroyed
  • Ar Agyr and Melhed fought a brutal war against the Defensive Alliance, thousands die each day.
  • Massive attack is launched on Melhed while Ar Agyr was away refitting. The famous Last Charge of the Berserkers on the plains of Gor Ault saw the entire Melhed army charge the invaders in a blood rage. Melhed is defeated, but casualties are so high for the Defensive Alliance that the invasion was called off.
• Emperor Tsu vanishes, and Aldo Unti ascends to the Golden Throne.

Age of Reason

• Emperor Aldo Unti ratifies the Treaty of Mhed, granting Fronen the lands of Trottie, Tempmona, Bisana, and Ieara.
• Aldo makes a deal with Prime Minister Predbjørn II the Fleeting, of Fronen arranging for the region of Bisana to be loaned to Melhed until Agyr can feed itself.
• First attempts at atomization of the government branches. The judge, banker, general are told not to report directly to the Emperor, but instead use their own initiative.
• The Bisana Agreement is questioned by Donald, and tensions strained.
• Regional lords elected for the first time.
• Signing of the Northern Colony Treaty and founding of the Monarchy of Valentia, based in Unger, and lead by King Kokomaro and Monarchy of Thalmarkin, based in Nuzanki, and lead by King Lemon Tree the Brief.
• The Mhed Incident. On the recommendation of King Vagabond, talks begin about the fate of the rogue city of Mhed, ancient capitol of Melhed. During the talks Donald declares the city property of Fronen through force of arms and demands Bisana at once to feed the new city. The alliance ends.
• Emperor Aldo bows to the Fronen demands in the face of overwhelming military strength
• Signing of the Four Kingdoms Treaty between Melhed, Old Grehk, Thalmarkin and Valentia. Pledging to always stand back to back against the trials of the world the four unite as brothers.
• Fronen ceases hostile actions towards Melhed, but relations are in tatters.
• Peaceful expansion into the Frontier, Lastfell, Rafferty, Kannoktet, and Lin Helon.
• The Reformation transforms Melhed from Empire to Republic in practice and name. Aldo steps down as Emperor and takes the title Prime Minister over the newly created Senate. First official mention of the Old Gods.
• Peaceful isolation from the affairs of the world begins
• Steady rise in Senatorial control under Prime Minister Aldo’s constant prodding.
• Gradual refinement of the gruff northern culture.
• Steady increase in noble freedom, and autonomy
• Aldo undertakes a state visit to Ossmat, capitol of Old Grehk and there was much fun and games. Along with a rebellion of one man.
• Another state visit this time to Thalmarkin is met with a cool reception at best.
• The third and final state visit to Valentia is much the same.

Grand General

Recorded for posterity is Aldo's letter after being appointed Grand General by Emperor Tsu.

Greetings all nobles.

First off I’d like to say that this appointment has come as a pleasant surprise. This is the first position on a council I’ve ever had and I’ll try my best not to let anyone down. I want to stress that I’m always open to ideas and opinions, though I won’t promise to follow all of them, so make your voice heard!

Some of you know me, some of you don’t. But it is my hope that soon I will be able to earn the trust of all troop leaders and that we can work together for the good of the realm.

We’ve been through some tough and uncertain times but hopefully we can work through these problems once and for all and move forward.

As soon as I talk with the Prime Minister and the rest of the council about the realm plan I’ll update the General’s Bulletin with some more details.
