What Who Come Again?
"What who come again?" Yleina spurted out after hearing the news from a messenger sent by her brother. The man patiently repeated his previous words.
"M'lady, His Grace has sent word to all of the troop leaders naming yourself as the temporary Second in Command of the Aenilian Regal Guard for our attack upon Ozrat."
"Uhhh... Surely you must be jesting, good sir..?"
"I would not dare, m'lady. I speak the truth. Those members of the Aenilian Regal Guard will need someone to direct their placement upon the field, after we have arrived. Lady Celina is not present at the moment, nor is Lord Heinrich. Thus, the responsibility has been given to yourself, M'lady."
Yleina rode on in silence for a moment, trying to absorb the surprise of this news. She was riding to her first field battle, a type of combat entirely foreign to her usual style of hunting. And now her brother has put HER in charge of other troops?! This was going to be a disaster!
"If there is nothing else, M'lady...?" the messenger inquired as he increased his horse's pace, ready to gallop back to the front, where the Legionnaires were marching.
"W-wait! What am I supposed to do? I'm totally lost here!"
"M'lady need not worry. His Grace has left detailed instructions within that missive." He pointed to the note that he had handed to her before telling her the news. With a salute, he was off.
"B-but! Hey! Come back he--Oh forget it..." The poor girl sighed and then opened the note, hoping that her brother knew what he was doing. There were only five words written on the large piece of paper: "Have fun and good luck!"
Oh Aenil above! What kind of instructions were those?? Great. I'm doomed. My first battle, and I'm going to make a fool of myself in front of everybody. Just pull back the bowstring and shoot me now, please, somebody!
She dropped her head into her hands before proceeding to methodically thump a palm against her forehead in irritation.
Oh noes! Tharion will be right there to see me mess up too! GREAT. I hope there are bushes in Ozrat, because I think I'm better off just finding one to hide in.
Miserably, the girl continued on at a slower pace, dreading the coming sunrise. In fact, so distressed was she over the news of being put on the spot as Second in Command that she had completely forgotten that Tharion had been riding quietly alongside her the whole time! When she looked up from pounding her head, she found him staring curiously at her.
"Eep! Err..yeah, that was.. uh, quite a surprise, huh?"
When he did not immediately respond, she continued chirping away nervously. "So um, what am I supposed to do exactly, milord? I think I'm in waaaay over my head here..."
New Second-in-command Announced
The sponsor of the Aenilian Regal Guard, Sir Xarnelf Lightstar, Duke of Idapur, has announced a new second-in-command: Lady Yleina Lightstar (Dame of Idapur). She replaces Heinrich Christenson (Knight of Ipsosez).
