Kicking Zombie Butt!

The handful of ghouls swung their decaying limbs at the surrounded, but still dancing, Blademistress, but she was always just far enough out of their reach to avoid harm.

Of course, it helped greatly that she knew these lands as well as she knew the constant appearance and condition of her always-miraculously-clean nails. So she allowed herself to be backed up into a seeming dead end, without even looking behind herself to verify that a giant boulder was soon to find contact with her retreating back, and the unwitting undead ambled in closer to claim their prize.

Mentally counting the steps she took from her previous location next to the small stream, the adventuress halted her dance right on cue and crouched down, drawing her twin blades across the front of her face in a slightly raised X-cross. If she had taken another three steps backwards, she would have collided with the stone and found herself cornered. However, now she was in a very favorable position to score a triple-kill, if she did not delay longer than necessary.

Two more heartbeats, and the front zombies reached out their claws with menace and glee. The girl closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and then willed her entire body to explode into immediate motion. The potential energy stored within her knees instantly became kinetic energy, propelling herself up and back in a wild spin. She kept herself halfway tucked in still, until her left leg moved past the face of the boulder. Then she let her right foot connect with the stone and repel herself off, transferring the vertical momentum into horizontal, as she completed her full turn and leaped straight for the drooling undead, blades still held high in front of her face.

Her crossed hands now uncrossed savagely, neatly decapitating both of the zombies to the sides, while her right knee, now held up and outstretched after her kick off the wall, connected solidly with the middle creature, smashing its face in with a sickening crunch. She landed with an exhale, head facing at the ground in front of herself, and blades pointed to either side, slowly dripping with diseased gore.

Three down, two more to go, she thought at the back of her mind. Noting their advance with her peripheral vision, she tossed both her weapons up and forwards, so that they soared hilt-first through the air, towards the oblivious foes. Then she leaped up and forwards, lifting her legs into a double-kick, one foot for each zombie; the blows connected, and the things fell on their backs. Her hands reached out and found the sword-hilts at the apex of their journey, and as she fell on top of the two, the Blademistress allowed gravity to aid her weapons, as steel pierced through skull and dirt, exactly on target.

Grimly, she twisted both hands to ensure that their brain matter was mangled beyond hope of ever functioning again before pulling both blades out and flicking them to the side to release some of the icky mess. Then she stood up and went to pick up her backpack, which had been thrown hastily aside at the first signs of trouble.

On the way, she saw a (non-poisonous) snake slithering about its business and shrieked in fear! Cursing, she threw a sword haphazardly at the poor reptile--missing it by more than a foot--and leaped behind the closest rock. Hyperventilating a little, she dared to peek over the edge to see whether her aim had been true, slaying the foul beast. It was nowhere in sight, and the girl breathed a sigh of relief, thinking she had taught it a lesson and scared it away.

Then she heard a faint hissing sound, which drew a perplexed expression, and she lifted her head another half a foot... coming face-to-face with a smiling snake! The serpent flicking out a curious, forked tongue, which just so happened to briefly touch the tip of the girl's nose.

This time, she did not shriek in terror.

She fainted.
