Part 6: The Knocking Exasperation
Several knocks sounded at the door to his chambers, and the weapons-master groaned again. What could it be this time? Did they not know what hour it was? Sighing deeply, Marcus reluctantly rose from his bed and rubbed at his eyes. Then he opened the door, expecting to see the same hawk-nosed servant who had roused him the last time. He was not disappointed.
"His Grace has returned and requests your presence in the dining hall, sir," the young lad said briskly.
In response, the weapons-master's eyes bugged out for several heartbeats, and then he closed his eyes and rubbed at his face to refresh himself.
"Yes, I will be there momentarily..." Then he closed the door and lay back down in bed. As he was beginning to drift off to sleep again, several more knocks sounded. Marcus cursed quietly all the way to the door before shutting his mouth and putting on a smile.
"Immediately, sir," said the servant, whom the weapons-master wanted to throttle at this very moment.
Glaring for a moment at the lad, Marcus finally nodded and fetched a more presentable robe to wear over his sleeping garments.
