Defense of Larmebsi

So it was to be war again already, this time against a different foe, mused Xarnelf as he stared off into the distance on the road to Nahad. His captain had done a good job finding as many recruits as he had in just the few short hours during which they had stayed at the capital. The refitted and reformed Farsighters, now numbering forty-four men, marched in four columns behind him with little idle chatter; it seemed that they were still wary of each other, as the whole group was now composed of archers originally hailing from four different units, a veritable motley of men with differing experience and equipment.

They had had no time to spare for training together to increase their familiarity before they were moving out again. Xarnelf doubted that they had even talked to each other yet outside of basic introductions. Urjintah had reported that he picked some based on their superior equipment and others based on their attitude and appearance, which supposedly suggested how much professional training they had undergone.

The young knight had agreed with his friend's decisions, partly due to the trust and confidence they shared, and partly due to his mind's lingering concerns and worries over the families of those Farsighters who had not returned alive. He still had not recovered enough from the recent disastrous campaign to fully trust in his own leadership abilities.

And now, they were on the move again, to defend Taith Aenil from invaders. Xarnelf let out a long sigh, his eyes clouding over slightly as his thoughts dwelled on the imminent trials ahead. He prayed that they would reach Larmebsi in time to repel the efforts of Ethiala. He also prayed that his new Farsighters would hold firm in the heat of battle if the tide turned against them.
