Regaining Consciousness

Xarnelf groaned softly and started to roll over again, this time in the other direction. As his right temple made contact with his cot, he came to with a louder groan.

"Urghh...ehh..whaa..?" His eyes blinked open groggily. "W-where am I?" mumbled the young knight, while moving into a sitting position.

Halfway up, the throbbing pain pounding like a hammer on an anvil inside his head intensified, making him gasp and fall back down to one elbow. From his slightly reclined station, Xarnelf scanned his surroundings. To his left, he saw an empty cot adjacent to a shaded corner of the room. A mug lay on its side next to it, resting on the marble floor.

As his gaze moved right past a doorway, a second cot came into view at the opposite corner; this one was occupied, but Xarnelf could not identify the man from his current angle. However, he did notice a shiny glint reflecting off of what might have been the business end of a battle scythe, which was sticking out from under that cot.

Moving on, the room grew lighter, and Xarnelf saw the soles of another person, who was lying on a third cot directly across from his own. He started to frown as his most recent memories began rushing back to him, with scenes of the growing mob at the base of the new temple and the large fist that came straight at his face.

Xarnelf's survey of his environment continued to his right towards the source of the light shining into the room. His hand rubbed at the abnormally large bump on his head, which persisted on pulsating painfully to the beat of his heart. Next, his gaze rested on a large bed that looked extremely fluffy and comfortable compared to his cot on the cold floor.

Near the bed, he perceived the window through which all of the light was coming, and silhouetted before it stood a person wearing what appeared to be a robe, gazing outwards in thought. Upon further observation, Xarnelf made out the somewhat long hair curling on top of the slim figure's shoulders.

Surmising that she must be the Duchess of Idapur, he let out a couple short coughs to let her know that someone had regained consciousness and then asked, "Milady Arella, pray tell, is everything alright? The last thing I can remember is seeing stars in bright daylight...."
