Lesson Six: Additional Game Resources

In addition to the actual game itself, there are several support resources to BattleMaster that are available to you. It is a good idea to familiarize yourself with them, as they not only provide a wealth of extra information, but make the game experience much richer. They are as follows:

  • Wiki Pages
  • Discussion List
  • Roleplay List
  • Bugtracker

Wiki Pages

This is an excellent resource complete with its own search engine that provides a ton of information. To get there, partially exit from your character by clicking “Family” and then in the new menu click “Community”. The brings you automatically to the main page of the Wiki, and the search engine is there on the left-hand side.

On the main page, you'll see quite a few helpful links right away, such as BM Basics, the FAQ, and an explanation of who the Titans are and what they do (which is very important to know). If you scroll down to see the Community Portal, you'll see even more helpful links, such as Gems of Wisdom from other players, Realm and Guild pages, and how Religion works in the game. It's definitely worth taking a look around and getting familiar with how to use the Wiki.

Discussion List

The Discussion List, or “d-list” as it's popularly known, is a valuable resource that allows you to post OOC about various aspects of BattleMaster with other players, with the game coders, and even with Tom Vogt who created this game and still posts frequently to the d-list. This is where you go if you want to keep up with the important changes that occur all the time in the game. It's also a good place to go if you have a question about game mechanics that you can't find the answer to anywhere else. You have to register first before you can post to this list, but you can read the archives at news.battlemaster.org.

If you decide to join the list, you can find links to subscribe to it under Edit Data on your Family page.

Roleplay List

Want to know how other people are roleplaying their characters in different realms but aren't sure how to find out? The Roleplay List, or “RP-list”, can also be found under Edit Date on your Family page. This list consists of players who post their roleplays to a wider audience than just their realm, so that all of BattleMaster can read and enjoy them. The archives for that are also at news.battlemaster.org. Each message is coded in the Subject line so that you know from which island and realm the roleplay originated (i.e. Lasanar's code is [FEI][Las] for Far East Island, Lasanar, although the tags aren't always consistent). The main rules of roleplaying in BattleMaster also apply to this list.

Bugtracker

This is where you go when you find something in the game that's not working the way it should and you want to report it to the game coders. Go to bugs.battlemaster.org and fill out one of the forms explaining the problem. (However, before you do this you might want to check the d-list first to make sure that the problem you spotted isn't already being worked on.) When you do so, it's easiest to log in by typing “guest” for both the login and the password. If you really want to create an account, go to the New Account link – but note that it's not linked to your BM name or character so you'll have to create it from scratch.
