Saat

The Story of Saat and King Murian

A young man, named Murian, who listened to the wind, heard it tell stories. He heard the stories of Ojiel the Wise, of Apelol the Wrathful, and of Oritept the Virtuous. He also heard of stories by Saat, who was respected at that time. Murian was a gift to his family, one with the strength and wisdom of his elders, but the agility and keenness of his peers. Over time, he led a small force of men against a tyrant named Ghreshil. This tyrant hid behind the walls of his castle, sending men to fight for him if they wished to save their family from the torture chamber.

During this time, a battle raged between the Ascended and the Tainted. They fought for control of the Nasagas. They didn't listen to the Justices, who urged them to focus on the events of the Syerthal. But Saat focused on the Syerthal. He focused particularly on Murian, who Saat counciled during the battles against Ghreshil. And he counciled Ghreshil in his battles against Murian. The lives of many men were forfeited, as the war waged on.

After several years, Ghreshil lost all but his keep. The vast armies under Murian were led against the keep, and Murian found and killed Ghreshil in the throne chamber. The death of Ghreshil ended the war of the Kii, and neither Order had won. But Saat, who had caught the ear of Murian while he was young, had the ear of Murian now. Murian refused to listen to any other Kii. Saat counciled his pupil, and had him take Ghreshil's place.

Soon, a storm came, that brought war machines from another land. Murian refused to lead his troops to battle, insisting that they fight for him. The men, thinking that they were great heroes of their king, fought, but soon after the battle started, their faith wavered and died. Murian sat in his throne, like his predecessor, while his men fought to their death. His generals asked him to fight alongside his men, to give them strength and courage, but he refused. The Orders both asked him to fight, for he could not be defeated in battle, but again he refused. His lands were soon conquered by the war machines, before they stopped their march.

A peasant girl, Kayla, from a village that was burned by the war machines came to seek the audience of the king. He refused her request. After hearing his refusal, she made her way into his court, and condemned him in front of his entire council, for while he was eating well, she was fighting for her life, her family, and her home. King Murian had her executed in public for insulting the royal court.

This young girl was favored by Apelol for her courage in battle. Apelol condemned Murian and Saat for their weakness, and Saat became a Forbidden. The girl's younger sister, who had accompanied Kayla to the King's Castle, who had watched Kayla's head roll off the headman's block, and who had fought beside Kayla in battle, met the king in the royal court. She challenged the King, and demanded that he fight her, a young girl of only fourteen. The court laughed at this challenge, and the King tried to have her thrown out. She killed two of the king's guards before he halted her. Finally angered, he drew his blade and approached her. But she had fought in the war against his enemy, she had fought alongside her sister against the war machines of the other lands. Fury fueled her soul, and rage calmed her mind, and she killed the king before he could react, for he had grown weak sitting all day on his throne.

She would later become one of the Devoted in the Order of Blood.
