12/20/2016

On this day in history, a combined military force blitzed the walls of Xavax at first light, surprising the defenders. Selenia was first wounded as enemy force overtook the Palisade. She fought on even as other notables like Lionel Kinsey and Godric Ka Habb succumbed to the overwhelming tide. In the end, she was the last noble of Xavax standing before she finally fell. She is survived by her infant son, Högni Peredhel (age 2). But truly, she was a Mother of Empires. What follows are the words of those who mourned the passing of the Phoenix Queen.

Roleplays

Roleplay from Cadewyn Thunderborn

message to all nobles of Greater Xavax

Cadewyn read and reread the reports of what had happened. Finally it sank into her.

The sound of fury and defiance, a wind of howling rage and pain ripped from her soul. Like a tempest she attacked her bars, screaming with cold hate at her captors.

Roleplay from Jane Celes

message to all nobles of Greater Xavax

Selenia fought and died by the Glory of Xavax! We must carry forth and never let her sacrifice be in vein. Glory to Xavax! Glory to Selenia!

Roleplay from Tsubhia Faraya

message to all nobles of Greater Xavax "It is my sad duty to confirm that the Xerarch was killed in battle.

Even without her leadership, she would have wanted us to continue to resist the enemy."

The parchment fluttered as it fell from Tsubhia's hands to the ground.

She had pinned her hopes for a better realm on Selenia JeVondair. The Call to Arms had led her to think that there was a chance to build a Xavax that elevated all people. That dream had driven her to questionable attacks on hamlets, had rendered her literally speechless. For that dream she had contended with the demons in her mind - which were now, of course, silent.

BECAUSE WHAT WOULD YOU EVEN SAY?, she screamed to herself. What sarcastic comment about my softness could you make that applies here? I call you foul, and even you know your voice holds not even a glimmer of worth to speak of the Xerar-... Of Selenia.

And it remained silent. She became aware, once more, that she was in her tent, and a messenger was peering confusedly at her, awaiting further instructions.

It was not time to give up. Not yet. There was too much left to do. She spoke, aloud.

"This message must be spread to every person you can get in earshot: Hödni must be found. Bring him to Kin Hyral. We will spend our lives for this and slaughter any who try to stop us." The messenger hesitated, still confused.

"MOVE!" And he darted off into the night. There was too much left to do.

And far, far too many left to kill.

Roleplay from Jonathan Rivenstock

message to all nobles of Greater Xavax "Damn it all!" Jonathan howled, as the blade he held in his sleeve bit deep into the bark of a nearby tree. His raven, Bram, shuffled on the branch that he had sat on, cawed once, as a reminder that he was still in that tree.

"Sir," His Captain, Casimir began, "She may be gone but we need to ra-"

Another blade sunk into a tree not a foot beside Casimir, silencing the man. "You will speak when spoken to at this time Casimir," Jonathan growled, "Our Xerarch has fallen. I understand what the letter said. Gather the men, We march to Xavax, We gather the child, and we will bring that child back to his godmother." The Bandit King would pay for his transgressions, As would Perdan, as would the Vix. Jonathan Gazed up at his raven, the sunlight peaking over the horizon. Soon, this would be all over, and soon, Bram would be his only companion once again.

Jonathan collected his cloak, and whistled for his horse. Once mounted, Bram launched from his perch and circled the Raven's Spears' camp, Screeching twice before flying ahead. The men knew before Casimir could even open his mouth. It was time.

Roleplay from Corvo Attano

message to all nobles of Greater Xavax A messenger approached Corvo's tent, showing the Royal seal, the guards waved her in.

"What is it?" Corvo asked, the woman swallowed before continuing. "My Lord Attano, it is with regret that I inform you of Her Majesty, Selenia JeVondair's death. She was slain holding the walls of Xavax ag-" the messenger stopped when she saw the look of utter disbelief on both Corvo and Ulfbjorn's faces. "Perhaps it be best I leave." the messenger said, and started to leave.

Corvo raised his hand, and bade the woman to continue. "Against bandit forces. Her last request was for Hogni to be delivered to Her Ladyship, Kin Hyral." the woman finished and bowed, turning on her heel and out of the tent.

Sure that she was gone, Corvo slammed a dagger into his desk, burying the blade to the hilt. "Captain, double time the men to Xavax." he ordered and Ulfbjorn saluted. "Shall I tell the men, My Lord?" Ulfbjorn queried, Corvo simply nodded.

Roleplay from Godric Tórrarin ka Habb

message to all nobles of Greater Xavax The air was heavy. The Xerarch had fallen in the field. Setting his old men as militia and hiring a new force, they had withdrawn to and fortified Torrenhal where the mood hung tortuous.

The Dukeslayer mulled the events. His men drank mead, preparing for the evening's battle. The weight of destiny was upon his shoulders.

"Open the doors."

His men, all Toren, look to their lord.

"Open the doors. We shall drink outside on the hill. Let the bandits see we are not cowed."

His men oblige. Dragging the great table so it hangs half outside, they light a fire. It serves as a sort of rallying beacon to the peasantry, militiamen, and residents of Torrenhal. Godric waives the restrictions on who may access the meadhall. As the gathering grows the mood changes. The Xerarch has fallen but they will not be oppressed. As the phoenix, they will rise up.

Godric stands on his great table. He is dressed in his furs. A spear and short blade hang at his side, a round shield is slung across his back. He growls to his men in Toren. Laughing, they oblige and begin a slow beat. Godric begins: an old Toren Song repurposed for these circumstances.

Farewell and adieu to you Xavax ladies,

Farewell and adieu to you ladies again,

For we've received orders for to march from old Xavax

And we may never see you fair ladies the same.

We'll rant and we'll roar like true Xavax warriors,

We'll rant and we'll roar from mountains to sea,

Until we strike steel on the walls of far Perdan,

From city to 'c'Lu Pesh is sixty-five leagues.

Now let every man drink off his full bumper,

Now let every man drink off his full glass.

We'll drink and be jolly and drown melancholy,

And here's to the health of each true-hearted lass!

So we'll rant and we'll roar like true Xavax warriors,

We'll rant and we'll roar from mountains to sea,

Until we strike steel on the walls of far Perdan,

From city to 'c'Lu Pesh is sixty-five leagues.

Roleplay from Gia Dragonfyre

message to all nobles of Greater Xavax Gia took the Xerarch's death with an eerie stillness....... She just ......froze....... her eyes closed ....like reeling from an invisible blow........ ""Her last request was for Hogni to be delivered to Her Ladyship, Gia Dragonfyre.""

The letter read....... **Wait.....WHAT!!!??? Gia looked at the messenger ......" I thought Kin was the god parent?" Her voice still shook. The messenger shrugged. Gia *Gulped....... She was shaking as she got into her saddle......something she rarely did preferring to walk ......"Then I set out for Xavax to retrieve the babe and guard him with my life. Kin and I, I'm sure will be on the same mission. I will also carry Selenia's body and guard it until we can make funeral arrangements. A tear slid down her cheek. " With that she whistled calling the pack to her and rode off toward Xavax...... a howling night fury leading a pack of teeth.

Roleplay from Nicolas Harkle

message to all nobles of Greater Xavax Nicolas had just climbed a ladder up to the top of the northern battlement of Isadril as he searched with his spyglass towards Leibo. It was rather chilly tonight and the cold bit him through his clothes as the wind whistled along the turrets and parapets of the wall.

He had been bored out of his mind lately in Isadril. There was only so much hard ale a man could drink and there was no academy to hone his skills at. He figured it was pointless to train the 17 men that comprised his unit, and so he just walked around the city, visiting the District of Ill Respute, his estate, and mounting the walls at dusk and dawn for some meditative peace.

Just then a loud gong sounded from the keep in the center of the town. The sounding of the gong usually was a warning to the militia and garrison to scramble the defenses and lock the city down, and soldiers immediately started running to their stations. However, this time, the delay between strikes was much longer and it was not accompanied by the usual 3 blows of a horn. The initial chaos died down as soldiers turned towards the keep in confusion.

The city felt very still as they all stood there on the walls in the cold biting air, and now the commoners were awake and in the streets.

And then messengers came from the keep and began running through the streets shouting. Nicolas glanced down in confusion as people in the streets gasped, while he and the men on the walls still didn't know what was going on.

And the murmer of shouts and worried conversation reached the men on the walls, and they all stared at each other with the same blank and inquisitive look in their eyes:

Is it really true?

Is the Xerarch really dead?

And then Nicolas kneeled and closed his eyes, facing the keep, unable to think. The clanking of metal and armor made him look around to see all the soldiers garrisoned on the wall, all the way around the city following suit in a wierd mexican-wave style chain reaction. The people in the streets did the same and soon the city was dead quiet. Not even the usual barking or howling of dogs could be head over the eerie howling of wind. For the first time in its history, Isadril was completely silent.

And then somewhere, off in the direction of the keep, solemn bugle notes floated over the wind and seemed to echo around the city. Bouncing off the walls, the crisp bugle notes had an uplifting tune to them despite the overall solemnity of the song the bugler was playing and the minor key it was in.

I will fight till the very bitter end., Nicolas thought as he kneeled.

I will die with the banner of Xavax drenched in blood in my hands before I give up this fight, for it has been far too costly a struggle.

Roleplay from Barrican Voxamaeus

message to all nobles of Greater Xavax Barrican marched from Igno in a somber mood. Less than 24 hours in service to the Imperium and the Xerarch he had just sworn to was killed in battle. He did not know her so he could not mourn her personally, but he could mourn her legacy. It was clear on the faces of his new allies how hard the news had hit them. She must have been a most formidable leader. He could not mourn her as a person, but he mourned that fact in itself. He would have liked to know the woman who had inspired such a strong following in her people. He grieved for the pain in his new comrade's hearts.

Roleplay from Eoghan Ui Briuin

message to all nobles of Greater Xavax Eoghan sat, stunned in silence within his tent as he read over the leader once more. It has seemed almost a dream, to know that the Xerarch had fallen dealt a blow to him that words could not describe. His entire career for the past two years had all been because of her magnanimity. He was openly a stanch supporter of the Xerarch in both oath and deed, and he made sure that all who served under him held the same oath. So although he had only been in her court for nearly a year the loss affected him mightily. Still he had a duty to fulfill and with the emptiness of loss came the burning heat for vengeance. One the young Lord would be forced to temper for the time being. In the mean time he cleared his thoughts as best as he could and reached for a quill and paper. The message he penned was by no means the most eloquent, but for him it would do just fine. For Eoghan wrote to their Arbiter to reaffirm the very oath he swore to Selenia the day before her fated duel. He reminded himself as he gave form to thought that she had been prepared to die on more than one occasion and that he, Aramon, was to be her successor. No sooner had he finished when the silence was broken by the only man Eoghan was likely to allow in his tent at the moment, his trusted Captain Roderic.

"M'Lord, I know you had commanded the men to leave you be for the time. But news has reached us from Leibo, there has been a report of some Perdanite raping and murdering your people." The grizzled veteran spoke solemnly while those hazel eyes fixated upon his Lord, the man who carried him wounded through two realms alone. He could see reflected in the younger man's frame a building tension rising up as the latest news only piled on top of the report of the Xerarch's death. In almost the span of a minute not a single sound was made between the two in that tent. Alas it would not remain so as Eoghan shot up from his seat in a rage. His hand pulling at his hunting dagger along his hip and in one smooth motion he slammed it hard into the table as he stood. The sound of fury that passed through his lips was only matched by the fires that blazed within his eyes.

"These mongrels, these puss blooded whore's sons dare to commit such acts on this day of all days. This can not stand, this WILL NOT STAND. If I am to find the man or woman who ordered such an act I will feed them their innards piece by piece until they vomit from their own bile. Even then that would be too good a fate for them. How do the other realms not rise to such acts!? They keep silent while our people are mutilated and defiled by half the bloody continent!" Eoghan seethed in his hatred as all that fire consumed his waking thoughts. Seeing this though Roderic knew full well that the others could not witness him in such a state. To do so would be to lose confidence in what the men had placed in their Lord. Both the people and the Xerarch had made Eoghan a hero, and that image was needed now more than ever.

"M'Lord," Roderic interjected in the lull that had formed, "you must compose yourself. Your men, your people are counting on you." The words were curt but true, and Eoghan knew it and hated him for it.

"Damn it all man I know!" He exclaimed bitterly as everything was still so very raw. "I know..." He added once more in a softer tone. His shoulders rising and falling as he did all he could to swallow that hate and keep it close to his heart for the embers to burn long after the fire died.

"M'Lord...what are we to do?" Roderic spoke after a few moments of silence, his eyes never once leaving Eoghan's frame. It took some time, but soon he comported himself somewhat and with a final breath the young Lord gathered his knife once more.

"Take the letter from the table and have a rider deliver it to Arbiter Aramon. After that we are to wait for the Talon's command before we act." Eoghan replied, managing a sort of calm that showed through his body but didn't seem to reach his eyes. Still it was likely the best the Captain would get, and so he bowed to the young Lord and collected the sealed message.

"As you wish M'Lord, I will deliver it personally." The old badger spoke, his words lingering in Eoghan's mind long after he had left and all had grown quiet once more.

Roleplay from Gilth Gildre

message to all nobles of Greater Xavax

Gilth and the Knights of the Rose arrived to the besieged castle of Xavax to find the battle which had raged all day continued on. They entered the castle from the East, under the fluttering banner of the Phoenix. Gilth dismounted his horse, gesturing his men to do the same.

"Our forces still hold the walls!" he shouted, drawing his sword, "Leave the mounts, they will do no good on the ramparts! Make haste men, we must hold these walls for longer still!"

Gilth took off running, his men at his heels. The castle was in chaos. Fire spewed from windows, arrows arced haphazardly through the air in and out. The din of battle was constant, with the clamor of steel and shouts of man.

Quickly Gilth and his Knights scaled the stairs to the ramparts. Soldiers of the Phoenix battled on the high walls, trying desperately to push the bandits back. Ladders fell against the outer wall, erupting with enemy soldiers.

"Give them hell lads!" he shouted, his sword held high, "Hold the line!"

The last of his decimated Knights crashed into the invaders with him. Gilth brought his sword down across an enemy, and kicked him in the chest and off the wall.

A flash of pain disrupted Gilth's vision as he was knocked to the side. A club, or perhaps pommel of a sword, had hit the side of his head. Desperately, he swung up with his sword, cutting the thigh of the aggressor Alarian. The man cried out and fell. Holding his bleeding head with one hand, Gilth thrust his blade through the man, silencing his cry.

By Ora, there are a bloody lot of them... Gilth though, fending off the next attack. Three of his Knights lay dead already. The rest of them had been forced back from the outer wall and the ladders, beset by sword and axe and hammer. He felt a tug on his collar, and was pulled backward. He spun to find his captain, Emry.

"We must fall back to the inner walls sir!" Emry shouted over the chaos, "The rest of the Xavax forces are pulling back there! If we do not go now, we will be cut off here!"

Gilth looked behind them to the inner walls. The gates had already been barred, and a small man door remained open for the remaining forces. Gilth nodded and Emry called the retreat. Archers from the inner wall harassed the enemy, providing cover for the forces of Xavax to withdraw through the small door.

"Find any men who are ready to serve, and rally them to us Captain," Gilth ordered Emry, but the man was already running to the recruitment center.

They would regroup and hold here, hopefully to sally forth and push the bandits from the walls they had so daringly climbed.

Xavax City, Inner Wall

Gilth stood with his last 5 Knights atop the ramparts of the inner wall. The Alarian and Minas Novan forces had ransacked the city and breached the first ring of the outer wall. The defenders of Xavax now stood on the inner wall and last protection for the castle itself.

Gilth looked back at the castle. He prayed those who had been charged with rescuing the Prince had been able to make it in and extract him to safety. He had heard no word since the battle had started.

For all he knew, they might all die defending this city and Xerarch Selenia's body. No messengers had been able to get through, and their information was cut off from the rest of the realm. All he could do was stay on the wall and fight, hoping reinforcements were coming.

He looked back down on the city. The enemy seemed lazy in preparing their next assault, instead they searched for overlooked tax offices or burned buildings without discrimination.

His head throbbed, and he closed his eyes. It had been many years since he had experienced this kind of desperate fighting.

This time he felt like he was on the righteous side.

Roleplay from Gia Dragonfyre

message to all nobles of Greater Xavax Gia was still sniffling as she stood up. The horse was nowhere to be found. She vaguely remembered feeling the horse lose her footing and the feeling of flying from the saddle. After that there was darkness..... and suddenly Gia had been in Xavax. She had secured Hogni. She could still feel the weight of the babe in her arms. Still see his happy little smile gazing at the pups. He was very fond of the pups. They returned his affection. She smiled down sadly at Lupa who was still leaning against her leg. Gia was sure it was Lupa's strange wisdom that had let her to instruct the pups to huddle around Gia's unconscious body all night to keep her from freezing to death. She had a large bump on her head. But the dream was tearing her apart. She had been so overjoyed to see Selenia alive and well again. To hand Hogni back to his breathing mother........ Gia's face grew grim. Hogni was still in Xavax somewhere, there was not telling what had become of him and no telling how long she had been unconscious at the side of the road. Although it was day now when it had been night. Gia set off toward Xavax once again determined to find Hogni and see Selenia laid to rest safely. She was not looking forward to the day .......... but She had not yet heard the news.......

Roleplay from Jeroen Ardorson Nifelleisca

message to all nobles of Greater Xavax Jeroen stumbled onto Xavax's streets upon word of the horrific news. Frothing at the mouth, he proclaimed, "Daimonic Perdanites MURDERED our Xerarch! To arms! To arms!" Running through the streets with a crazed look in his eyes, he saw some cloth-maker with cloth that looked a bit too similar to Perdan's colors. He burnt the cloth, shouted, "Death to Perdan!"

Jeroen had been furiously writing letters inside a Xavax inn and tavern, when he thought to order a round of drinks for all. And then a rousing speech. It was not long before the entire establishment was slamming their mugs upon the tables and chanting, "Death to Perdan!"

Jeroen was leading a small band of men, from every walk of life from street sweeper to esteemed squire, chanting "Selenia the Saint!", "Death to Perdan!", and "Death to Daimons!", when some parchment fell from his bag. Perhaps he need not move so erratically, but that did not cross mind.

What did cross mind was sudden recognition of what he possessed. He had completely forgotten he owned such a scroll, with his long retirement. He had once used such a parchment on King Garin, though it did not have the success he had sought. Maybe. Just maybe. This would...

Leading the band of rabblerousers to where Selenia was lying in state, he bid them wait his return. And entered to see Selenia once more, for what anyone else thought would be the final time. Jeroen hoped for more.

Jeroen carefully read the inscription and completed the ritual. While he had certainly done his best with his King Garin, King Garin had not been deceased, merely seriously wounded from vile Perdanite weapons. Now that he thought about it, perhaps daimonic weapons from Perdan, but when he had performed the healing ritual on King Garin, he had not yet reached such conclusions.

Jeroen stopped. Breathed deeply. He could not think on the past. He must focus all his will. Went over the ritual again to ensure nothing had been missed. And continued.

He could feel something different this time. The magic flowed around him as before, but this time, there seemed to be instant recovery. Selenia sat up. Others paying their respects gasped. He offered his hand, with a smirk, as Selenia jumped in fright and confusion. With calmness, he offered his hand again, and Selenia witnessing those witnessing her, quickly regained composure. Together, they exited the building and stood before the crowd of mourners, who now murmured in surprise at seeing their Xerarch stand once more.

Jeroen felt that this spellcasting had been a worthy experience. And educational too.

Roleplay from Godric Tórrarin ka Habb

message to all nobles of Greater Xavax Ravens fly suddenly. All the Toren shudder, as if hearing their father grabbing a belt.

A flash crosses his vision of a dead god, form unknowable but frightening incomprehensibly. It is peering at a lioness, but the scale of the god makes it look a golden kitten. The old god speaks, voice like granite. It casts the kitten back across the void.

Letter from Liam Rhynehardt (19 minutes ago)

message to all nobles of Greater Xavax

First Uthred now Selenia..... They keep taking the best of us... This too shall pass.... But we MUST RALLY! Now we must PROTECT THE CROWNGUARD!!!! They must be allowed to have an inch of anything that belongs to Greater Xavax! For every Inch of land they march on they will be met with resistance! For every step they take they shall be met with the burning fiery of the Phoenix!!! Let our enemies feel the Ire and pain of our great Losses!! Let us show them that the loss of Selenia was detrimental to MORALE AND NOTHING ELSE !! Our Xerach was ready to die for some time. She disseminated her power greatly and created channels and avenues for many to ascend and lead!

COME BROTHERS AND SISTERS!!! Let us show them that GREATER XAVAX IS NO LONGER A CHAINED BEAST! THAT HELL HATH NO FURY LIKE THE IRE OF THE PHEONIX!

A wiseman told me once that heros live longer than expected but never long enough... I chuckled because while I understood his words I never grasped the concept. They took something from us in the hope of defeating us but they did not understand that the thing they gave in return would be more instrumental than thing they took...... GREATER XAVAX IS NOT AN EVIL PLACE! The words they speak of us are lies I pray the all: RALLY UNDER THE NEW PARAGONS NAMES OF UTHRED THE UNSTOPPABLE AND THE PHOENIX EMPRESS SELENIA!!

Let their names be chanted on the lips of every man woman and child that deigns to cross into our lands! Let their names be landed on the sharpened points of blades,Lances and arrows!! I Pray thee all once More RALLY PROTECT OUR LANDS, PROTECT THE CROWNGUARD! For he is truly the last of his kind now more than ever!!...I cannot stress enough the importance of finding the Jevondair babe. he is a very..."special" child and if we must protect him at all cost. The entire islands gates now rest on his head now. His demise could spawn a rogue out break of dire proportions...

Brothers and sisters of the Phoenix, Your words last night touched the soul of a man defeated and heartened him to do what was necessary for the good of the realm. I, Liam Rhynehardt, Bard of Greater Xavax and Knight of Isadril. Do solemnly swear to dedicate my remaining time in the Realm of Greater Xavax locating The crown prince. I understand that your duties may call you to arms and I respect your willing to do what must be done but understand the importance of my task. I will most assuredly die but I will die a man in service to his Duke and his Xerach.

– Liam Rhynehardt, Knight of Isadril

Letter from Cadewyn Thunderborn

message to Druzil Sharpespear, King of Minas Nova

Perhaps you have heard. Since, even in a cell, I have, it is safe to assume you have as well.

Selenia JeVondair is dead.

I suppose petty rulers such as you would rejoice at such news. You are a fool if you do.

We only wanted peace. To keep our borders safe from rapists and pillaging. We were a safe haven for refugees from cowards calling themselves kings who ground their own people under a merciless bootheel.

But a Phoenix is a bird of prey and power. And it's flames frightened many.

I accept that. It is what happens when some great grows amongst the muck.

But never forget the lesson of a Phoenix. It rises hot and fast from the ashes, with renewed vigor and focus.

Xavax Endures. A hard motto for a fierce people. We have been taught what it means to be otherwise by you.

Warn your fellow cronies as you cower and conspire.

Xavax Endures. The Phoenix Rises. And her shade will hunt you, for eternity.

– Caedwyn Thunderborn, Knight of Xavax

Orders from Beck Mozzoni (8 minutes ago)

message to all nobles of Greater Xavax

Today is a hard day for us. We have lost the lighthouse guiding each one of us but it's not time to mourn it's time to reborn from our ashes and become stronger.

Xerarch Selenia was a great woman and a friend of mine and I'm sure she would order us to continue fighting like we have been doing all these years.

The eyes of the whole continent are focused on us. Soon they will decide if they want to fight for the spoils of our realm or they want to help us. Our next actions will influx their decisions.

G2GX! GLORY TO GREATER XAVAX! GLORY TO XERARCH SELENIA!

– Beck Mozzoni Xenophon of Greater Xavax Duchess of Xavax

Letter from Ulv Schancke (9 minutes ago)

message to all nobles of Shattered Vales

These news from the East Continent are sad indeed!

She was force impersonated and the one to amalgamate the Empire of the Ivory Vales. Our tribute to the Empress must be to defeat the Daimons and make as great as ever before!

By imperial decree, all flags of the empire must be flown at half mast. We will burn the ashes of the ticks and fleas we destroyed in her memory.

Letter from Gilth Gildre (5 minutes ago)

message to all nobles of Greater Xavax

Nobles,

From the scout reports of Xavax, it looks like it may be a close battle. Mostly dependent on how many of us move into the city, and how many of them pull out. I would like to suggest we split into two forces, one as a distraction force, the other a rescue force (OOC for RP purposes). We can take the fight to the enemy, and allow the rescue force time to locate and extract the Prince.

From the looting which has occurred, it seems to me they are preoccupied with tax gold and unaware that a future heir of Xavax sits under their noses.

The rescue team will need time. As per the Talon's orders, with our high retreat rate we should be able to commit fully and ensure that window stays open. However, we will need to expect heavy casualties.

The fortunate part is that the recruitment centers are ready and waiting with fresh soldiers needing a leader. If we are quick in our call to arms, we can reinforce our army and completely decimate any stragglers who think themselves heroic enough for a third round.

The Knights of the Rose will be riding into the enemy come sunset. I know there are many others who will be there too. Luck in battle to us all.

To the rescue force, gods speed.

Letter from Jeroen Ardorson Nifelleisca (just in)

message to all nobles of Greater Xavax These evil Daimonic Perdanites murdered their own Queen Fiona Gildre and now they've murdered Xerarch Selenia! They are a threat to noble society everywhere, from the commoners they massacre to the Royalty they assassinate!...I was a victim of daimonic assassination when Perdan violated multiple agreements to oppress the city of Perdan, which Perdan has no claims to! Xerarch Selenia, bless her soul, gave me sanctuary and refuge from the daimonic influences within Greater Xavax and I will not stand by to let her kindness go unrewarded!

I say, the most gigantic statue known to any living being must be constructed within Perdan City in honour of Saint Selenia!

Letter from Iuz Vidar Crownguard (just in)

message to all nobles of Greater Xavax Ode's Blood!

The Xerarch cared so much for her people that she led the charge to defend them time after time. I do not believe anyone believed she could fall in battle. This is a heavy and dark day for Xavax.

Good nobles of Xavax, hold the line and stay the path, your senior leadership will coordinate and lead you until a new ruler can be elected.

Xavax endures,

– Iuz Vidar Crownguard Duke of Isadril

Vile Bracka,

If you think the Xerach was a witch then know there are far worse things in Xavax who are now moving towards power. Selenia was merciful.

message to all nobles of Greater Xavax

Vice Marshal Sir Godric, the former Arbiter of Xavax and Author of its laws

I am writing you from prison on a matter of utmost importance. What should be done about Högni Peredhel?

He is Selenia's scion, her blood and her fire live on in him. And he, like all those she had at her side, deserve a choice. The chance to rise up and serve through leadership.

Make no mistake I fully support Xerarch Aramon. I believe in his leadership entirely.

And while we have not had quite the issues with our head of state other realms do, we do need stability in succession, in focus and goals.

I have received word, as this prison does nothing to keep me mentally from Xavax, that a Kharyn Kaye JeVondair comes.

I know nothing of her truly. But I fear we must make solid Högni's right to rule, should he want it, now. Leave no question that he has it, to accept or deny when he comes of age, and keep him safe from another kind of death.

The death of his mother's vision and hope.

We MUST do this. I beseech you Vice Marshal and all of Xavax to support me in this.

message to all nobles of Greater Xavax

Hey you guys! You know Selenia's player wouldn't want you to all leave because she died. As in the real world things happen and stuff changes in BM. The JeVondair family will send another member of their ranks to take over the raising of Högni. ..... If we despair now all is lost. Or we can fight on like the character Selenia would have wanted and as the player would want as well. You have all heard the talk and Gilth I'm sure will confirm we are besieged because we are a threat. The other realms are intimidated by us. I personally like that idea a lot, alot..... I am truly morose at the loss of so mighty a figure even if it is RP. Selenia was mighty. And now we have two exulted or higher for our pantheon. Who will help me tell Selenia's story? To her legacy who will stand with me and continue to fight in her name? in Uthred's name? In Xavax name? Let us raise such a noise for them the gods notice. Let us secure Xavax it's place in the world. If we stick together we can do all these things. And with our new JeVondair and a royal heir to guard .......I'd say there is yet much more to this story. To our story......If your with me Knights of the Black Swan, all our members who joined for Selenia .....please friends stay ..... there IS yet much more to be told. Stephanie Kun

Aptly said, Stephanie.

BM is a very diverse and intricate game. Actually, I am wary to call it a game. It is more of a personal simulator, a political sandbox. Anything, quite literally, can happen.

I have participated since 2005 (old account, got deleted), and of the scores of realms I have been in, I can honestly say GX is one of the best. Maybe it is because a lot of you know each other personally, maybe it is something else. I do know it isn't because one person was holding everyone together (although the player of Selenia is by far one of the strongest players I have encountered, and Selenia as a character was daunting as hell!). There are writers, poets, dreamers, lovers, song-writers, warriors and philosophers here. It is truly a melding pot for inspiration.

Maybe JeVondair will create another char here, maybe not. That is up to the player. But I ask you not to throw away the game. It has given me countless joys over the years, and as corny as it sounds, has definitely developed me as a person.

Please think carefully before you turf your character. At the very least just pause them, so that they are always there for you if you ever want to return.

BattleMaster is only the amazing game it is because of the people who play it. No other game can say that. Tristan Barkwell

Wow, I don't think I've been this effected by a character death in BM, even of one of my own characters. In many ways Selenia was Xavax to me, which is rather ironic, given how she came into power. I understand why some of you would want to leave, but please consider staying. As Tristan and Stephanie said, this game is merely a framework for the collective story told by the players, and that includes you. Xavax is be less without you.

I hope that made sense, I'm kind of gobsmacked at the moment. Clark Raven Napper

Well damn, that really wasn't expected.

I do hope nobody leaves GX or BM because of her death, it is because of her death I am suddenly even more attracted to BM, that literally anything can happen, as Gilth said.

Also I thought I was the only fool who wanted to go infiltrator, guess not :P Harris Adams

Holy wow. And here I was just getting attached to my big political bruiser of a Xerarch. Few words we're spoken IC and OOC but her tone influenced a lot of my decisions here in character creation and how quickly I became attached to the realm. Liam recruited me at the start of the big push to take Liebo and hold it, and even in this short time this games politics and such have drawn me in. I, for one, will not be leaving just because the person I was recruited by is apparently gone. From OOC talks I've fleshed out that Aramon should make a competent leader, and the assassination (let's all be real, that mobile strike force coming at Selenias neck was a broad day assassination) will power us through to new and bigger alliances and political power plays. Lets get elevated people.

Please tell Selenia's player to make another character here so Lionel can lecture them some more about the importance of not interfereing with the General's orders. He wasn't done, damn it. >:(

(...)

Selenia left a legacy already and built something impressive which will be talked about for a long time to come, trust me on that one. Xavax dominated the southern talks and history post unfreeze and trust me that Selenia is viewed much higher than Magnus before her. And I don't see Xavax destroyed, so there is a lot of opportunity also later. There is quite a surge among some players on EC to not destroy realms too quickly.

You are left with a most difficult choice and trust me, I thought about it a lot. Garas has a ban from Sirion but still fights on the front line every battle. If he gets captured, he'll be executed, no question. Then you must decide and you must decide now, will you join Xavax again and try to 'regain' power with a new char, or will you create a char in a different realm (prob different section of the JeVondairs then like great Niece or whatever) and build something new and at the same time see what those in Xavax make of the foundation you built. Me, I'd prob do the latter should it now happen to Oligarch just to see how well I taught them military strategy :P Should it happen in a few years from now, I'll prob turn Garas' daughter into a actual char (another player already turned their son into an actual char short time ago) just to expand on that RP, but she's not even 1 years old now xD

But yeah, the pain of losing her is real. The question is, do you think the other players will continue to have a nice realm without you (that hurts even more I know, been there, done that) and see how their RP turns out or are you afraid that some players will leave the game because of it, since you brought quite some of them to the game I think?

John Reumerman

Forum Notes

Too bad for Xavax (and the game, really). Selenia was an inspiring noble and Xerarch.

I'm sure this will make up for some good RP.

Ah the irony, such a sad death.

However, I can't help but laugh a bit as well. After all. It's a fictional character and she was involved in so many things. It is ironic humor. It is the same as if someone said, "What a nice day” when it is raining.

The untimely death has of course caused a sort of... Mass effect that now, Everyone else must figure out how to overcome. This is a very interesting part of the game, when the legendary and almighty leader is gone... What will happen?

Remember everyone, to remain civilized in discussion and respect each other's reactions to this event.

So now we find out which culture that Selenia founded lasts longer. The culture of the Vales (Ivory Vale, Jaded Vale, Shattered Vales etc) on BT or the culture of Xavax of EC.
