Nightmare from the Demon of Dwilight

Dream sent to Bowie Ironsides (1 recipient)

Bowie awoke back in his estate in Drowenton. It was noon, and he could smell an aroma from the kitchen. Aroused, he entered the kitchen to find his cook baking bread for lunch. He exited the home and found his wife on the terrace gazing into the field. He stood beside her and looked where she looked. There was a full-grown man instructing a servant on the day’s outdoor affairs.

“He has really grown, hasn’t he?” Arabell asked.
“Avandor? Yes, he is a fine man. He will produce excellent children when his time comes and our family will prosper on this continent.” Replied Bowie.
“I have never told him that you are still alive.”
“Will you ever tell him about me?”
“No. Never.” She stated.
“Why not?” He wanted to know.
“I have worked hard to bury your name here in Fissoa, to give him a chance. With you dead, the boy will have a future.”

Bowie sighed and watched the young man at work. He could not help but feel empty at the loss of the relationship with his son. He ventured a long journey by boat to find fortune and prosperity in Dwilight. Marrying this woman and seeding that son gave him tremendous pride. Now he knew that was all ruined. He turned to his wife to see the Demon of Dwilight instead leaning against the banister watching their son.

“What do you think of him?” Bowie asked the demon.
“He has your eyes, but not your fire. Poor boy will never exceed you.”

Suddenly, a strong gust of wind pushed Bowie out of this scene and landed him in his manor in Qubel. There in a large ornamented chamber was Melani, the harlot who birthed Bowie’s daughter Selena. She was sitting beside the fireplace weeping steadily. He approached her and put his arm on her shoulder.

“Our daugther is a princess. You can be happy we gave her that.” He said as comforting as he could.
“You stole her from me, you left me on the docks. I am broken because of you!” she mumbled out between tears.

Bowie shrugged and did not seem to care about her, but then she said.

“Our daughter has found happiness in another family. We mean nothing to her. Even if you visit her, she will look at you with distant eyes and never as if you were her father. You made her a stranger to us.”

The fire was eating away a large log and the smoke lifted in plumes through the chimeny. Then the Demon of Dwilight was sitting at the chair staring at Bowie who did not notice.

“She has your charisma and sass, but not your hunger.” The demon said.
“And?” said Bowie.
“And she will never advance your legacy.” Answered the demon.

Then, another incredibly strong gust of wind swept Bowie out of the Qubel manor and into a tribal village in Sallowwild. There, Bowie saw the Sallowsian Princess and his other son Winter. They were arguing with the chieftains of the tribe. Just the two of them against the whole troupe.

“There.” Bowie pointed, “That one has my fire and my hunger. Will he not succeed me?”

The Demon sat amongst the chiefs and tilted his head in response. Bowie did not understand.

“He may not live to. But he will do.” Explained the demon.

The wind returned but this time it swirled Bowie into darkness.

The dream faded.
