After being captured by the Zuma in Eregon, and expected instead to duel Haktoo to the death, Bowie had a brief conversation with the daimon lord before they tortured him and he escaped his execution.

Alright then, if death be your will on me. I fear neither you or the consequence of your decision for I am the Demon of Dwilight, notorious across this continent and beyond, and you are merely a monster whose sole power over the nobility derives from unfounded fear. They fear you simply because they do not know much about you, but as far as I can tell you are as mighty and dangerous as the smoke puffing from your volcano. So long, and I really wish I had the opportunity to kill you.

While you rot in your cell, Screamer, visits you and says:

While you are sitting in your cell in Zuma Coalition, one night the cell doors open and Screamer enters together with her torturer. Dragging you off, they make your nightmares come true.
As you regain consciousness the next morning, you feel your body in the worst possible way. You remember little of the night and are grateful for that.
Escaped!
One morning in your cell, you hear the guards speak about an upcoming execution outside your cell door. As you listen carefully, you find out that is your execution that is being planned.
Giving it everything, you try again to escape from your cell, and driven by sheer desperation, you succeed this time! You are free!
