The Second Assault

(Something had gone wrong, and they did not control the battlefield, but Thrydwulf was still confident they could win - and win they did. Here is the report from his eyes.)

Thrydwulf was sat in his tent, after a hard evening's fighting, writing various letters to lots of important people and was feeling his eyes drop. It had been a very long day.

As the sun set, and the scout reports came flooding in of the enemy approaching, the armies of Sint and Heen had united their forces once more. Reinforcements had arrived, strenghtening the allied forced after the first assault on the walls.

Thrydwulf had thought they would command the battle from the city, but he had been wrong. An advance party of Eager Infantry had been spotted, and immediately the allied forces had charged out to destroy them, only to find that the forces of Mesh and Ashborn had now reclaimed the walls...the assault would have to start again.

The siege engines were already there, and again the numbers were with Thrydwulf. It was just a matter of time, but he knew that this battle would be bloodier than the last. Now attacking the walls (for the second time), Thrydwulf charged with the Cavalry, Jadine and Celia riding with him. 200 Ashborn and Mesh soldiers made the mistake of holding the gate, but they were destroyed in the powerful cavalry charge.

As the infantry climbed up the towers again, and faught over the crumbling fortress battlements, Thrydwulf began to ride up the battlements. Suddenly, a brave group of Ashborn soldiers rushed out at them from behind some rubble, and managed to force them off. Thrydwulf's camel had fallen, and his unit had to flee. The rest of the battle would be up to the rest of the allies.

This had been Thrydwulf's third victory as High Marshall of Heen. He had not lost a battle yet - and while he spent the next hour after the battlefield finding his routed men, he still felt a sense of elation. Tonight it had been revenge against that dreadful morning in Joppo. Tonight, many nobles of Mesh had fallen. Two wounded, a noble of Ashborn was close to death - and they had captured 4 others.

It was not all good news though. After setting up his camp, he had learned that Celia, the Duchess of their Capital had been injured. She had survived almost to the end, her unit fighting bravely over the stones, until a stone had dislodged itself as the fortress walls crumbled, and knocked her out cold with a large wound on her head. He had also heard that the Pontifex of Sint had been captured, his brother had been injured yesterday also. Their family was not doing so well at the moment.

After studying the battle reports, Thrydwulf decided that it was time to lay down. His reuninion with Fror would have to wait - his back ached from his fall, and his head was throbbing. Tomorrow would be better...
