Original Crest of the House of Fury

There Be Monsters

Where there be monsters, there be Guardians of Ered Luin

Whether old or youngsters, we'll leave them all in ruins

For we march and we march, 'cause it's worth doing

To clear the realm of monsters, we be Guardians of Ered Luin

Through mountains steep and valleys low

We tread where very few shall dare to go

Though snow shall fall and rivers flow

We be Guardians so onward trudge, yo-ho!

Now here we are, and where you be?

No monsters here, they saw us come and had to flee!

In honour of his brother, Arden – the crest also bears the insignia of the Inferi Hunters

In my search for bling bling

Nobles started to sing sing

Because I wanted to bring bring

Something from my older sibling

Alas, it's true. My late grandfather's forays into Eston proved too much to handle for the common womenfolk. He claims that the act happened by divine inspiration, thus the child was named Divine Fury, though I strongly suspect it was more of a divine opportunity that seized the day. Still, the family of Fury are a secretive lot as we are rather hard to name, or so I'm told.

Nonetheless, my brother quests to be a noble one day and can handle any balls any ladies might wish to throw but could they handle... er... his? He is handsome as can be though not so more than me.

Also, how could anyone think I would cheat my own brother, flesh and blood that he is? Certainly I must think of his welfare, rolling around in the mud in his sleep while I have my silk tent and my silk bedsheet. And he certainly could get a helping hand improving his adventure gear like with his rusty knife, though stabbing monsters with it might kill them from infection.

I like to think too that status and priviledges in life are a matter of fate and the life to which one is born in. My brother may yet prove to be the better man. After all, we all put on our pantaloons one leg at a time.

No one gets out alive :P

New crest of the House of Fury

Monsters, you beasts of the realm!

Hear me now you shallow stomach-leading fiends!

You may strike down my men on the battlefield,

You may rip them apart and gnaw on them,

You may knock me down unconscious

But you will never, ever,

And I mean never, ever,

Really mean never, ever,

Rip my Adorned Chain Mail of Strength (+5 Prestige - updated)

Off my cold dead body!

Created in celebration of the Royal status of the House of Fury.

I would have sent this message to the Foresters guild but perhaps there are some issues that deserve the attention of the realm.

There is a small undead army in Hidale, not large enough yet for military action but led by an undead champion whom my adventurer brother could not handle. He will have to rest and try again.

I don't think adventurers in CE are not trying hard enough. I think it's excellent that Hetdrow (if I'm not mistaken) is identifying areas suggestive of trouble. It may be that these adventurers have their own agendas such as looking for or repairing items but perhaps the roots go deeper still. I recall, I don't know who and it wasn't my brother, that one such adventurer said in the Foresters guild "that's precisely why I work in other realms and not in CE", something like that and not my words. I gather that it was the way adventurers were treated in CE - that is with little respect and perhaps bordering on contempt. Then there was a case, very recently,of a peasant achieving noble status after years of dedication who called out for a liege lord. If I remember correctly, he was largely ignored and moved on to greener pastures.

In a hierachical society such as ours, yes peasants are below us. Likewise knights are below Lords who are below Dukes (where does that leave priests?). That brings the question of being below in what sense? - on an imaginary and self-created social scale. It simply doesn't exist not unless the majority maintains it. Then the delusion continues. A caste system based on occupation is fine. Caste discrimination is not. It all boils down to the attitude.

Am I suggesting the liberation of peasants? Granting of priviledges? Societal code does not condone it. More importantly, the System prohibits it. A peasant can be made general (if my research is not wrong) who can then be arrested by a noble. What am I suggesting then? A change in attitude towards peasants. Recognise them as humans. Treat them harshly and they rebel. Treat them unfairly and they move on and offer their services to other realms.

Adventurers do not ask for and receive little recognition from the average noble, until his services are needed, that is.

Fury, soon to be unleashed

I first wish to pay my respects to Lord Caledor Von Ulthuan, Viscount of Trawiy. I have not had the pleasure of personal correspondence with him and it is my loss.

I also wish to state that I am running as a candidate for the local lord of Trawiy. If I am deemed unworthy then there is no better way than to deny me again. I have been called a troublemaker by some. Of what trouble I do not know. From time to time I hear from friends and noble colleagues that my name is mentioned in the senate. Not being in the senate, I do not know the delicious/salacious? details and I have never asked what they are. It would be an interesting read, I'm sure.

I do know that all I have ever said or done was for the betterment of Cagilan. If my opinions or thoughts differ from the senate and this difference would upset the balance then leaving me out will send that message. But I find that I must speak my mind whenever I have to. If there is something to be said I must say it. If this is considered un-noble, un-knightly and un-lordly, there is nothing I can do about it. For the record, in the current debate, the bottom line of my message was an explanation of and an exhortation to the nobles of Cagilan to treat their subjects better.

I humbly await your decision.

Hell hath no Fury, like the House of Fury scorned

Many in Ered Luin are now demoralized by this scandal and many are now said to be unwilling to follow you into battle, let alone allow you to command them... Prime Minister Samuel has already been approached and now asks about a replacement at the behest of other TLs...You are to be relieved of command effectively and immediately. A new SiC will be appointed shortly.

Why not ban me as well? For my social views and connections? The Empire can withstand enemy soldiers but shudders when I speak? It can tolerate dissension and disagreements with its allies but not within its own borders? Indeed the quill is mightier than the sword.

The men we lead into battle - are they not peasants? Do they not bond cohesively as they train and fight together along with the TL? Do we not grieve each time we lose men or a Captain? Or is the grief due to our lost gold and effort in training them? Basically, our lost pride and prestige rather than a genuine sense of grief? Showing grief for peasants on one hand and disdain on the other is simply hypocritical.

Social faux paux - It amazes me that me such an issue agitates nobles into heated discussions, requests and accusations and even demoralizes the army. I see no rule, law or tradition that requires a knight to ride roughshod over a peasant. Your squire - he who helps you wear your armour - do you slap him about for helping you don your armour wrong? Your messengers, do you whip them when they get your message wrong? Embarassingly for me, many nobles do. I have never laid the blame on my messengers when it was I who dictated it wrong.

Do you feel no connection with your men? Must any relation purely be lord and servant? Being a lord, does it mean we have to lord it over others? Is this how we inspire loyalty and bond with our subjects? It is no wonder then that our frontline regions are continually slipping from our grasps. The tighter we grip the more they slip away. And yet we continue to appoint the same lords that the peasants, yes the peasants kick out. Then we go back in and hang a few of them to flex our might and show them who's lord.

In this sense, I believe I have shown what it really means to be a noble, of noble blood and noble heart - and not just in name. The accusations against me is a social oppression and I am more sad than angry at my inability to convince anyone.

Good day.

The House of Fury – does not need to step on others to gain higher ground

Where have I said that we must treat peasants as nobles? I said treat them with respect due to another human being. I know there are many who do not need to feel superior towards peasants or show it in their attitudes. Blood is thicker than water and this saying is even older than our society. I have defended my kin as unobtrusively as I can against societal norms and even then all I asked for was a better attitude - not granting of rights and priviledges as a noble.

Those of us in the Order will know as we will even choose to help members of the Order even if he was an enemy of the Empire (ooc: see Wiki). Peasants have little rights, yes they do have rights - the rights to live and breathe - but hardly any right to go against a noble. I have brought this up because I find the prevailing attitude of nobles towards peasants a disturbing and dangerous trend. If a peasant, your subject, seeks you out for justice, will you not speak out? Read for yourselves and judge.

No better liege than he

Cagilans,

I am ashamed of many of you. An able and committed Knight is slighted for his father's procreative urges... and by many who have not shown more noble behaviour then my boot-laces have! Sir Celestial Fury is one of the most dedicated and inspired Knights that have ever served Vornion, always searching to better the County and the Empire! He himself is a true noble, of blood and mind, who would rather shed his blood than see an innocent man suffer injustice, who feels compassion for his fellow man and fulfils his duties with loyalty and perseverance!

Yes, he has a bastard brother! Let all of you who are in the same position but have been hypocritical enough to remain silent about it think about what your opposition to Sir Celestial truly entails! As all of us he was born of noble blood and is of noble breading, his sense of humanity and civilisation is even more developed than most nobles I know, and for this you choose to degrade him?!

Yes, Sir Celestial, the quill is ever mightier than the sword, but should only be so when employed with intelligence and skill. Even the quill is powerless against the foul stench of bigotry and misplaced sentiments of superiority…

All Cagilan banners in County Vornion will fly low today, for something in the Empire, what has once made it great, has died…

in honour,
Cullen O’Ways (Earl of Vornion)

Jeren – an upcoming knight soon to be proven true.

This has to be a fake letter to Celestial Fury. There is no scandal. There is no demoralization of Ered Luin or unwillingness to follow our Second in Command into battle. Relieved of command by who's authority? Certainly not our Prime Minister's. This is ridiculous.

I have bled for Sir Fury and he for me in the heat of battle, defending the empire. All of Ered Luin has bled for the empire. We are all now, and forever shall be in service of the empire. Just because he speaks of those we command as 'friends' in our war camps while having an ale or three before another battle in service of the empire is no reason to punish him.

His position as a SiC should not be in question here. Do not punish him for saying something you believe to be politically incorrect, please. Not everyone feels that way and I would be surprised if anyone in Ered Luin feels that way about him. I will continue to follow his lead and expertise on the battlefield for it has proven to be sound and wise.

If you do not want to listen to his rants in the battle tent then ignore it. I assure you that the next day, when Ered Luin rides into battle with Celestial Fury in its ranks, the troops give 200%. 100% for effort and 100% respect!

Sincerely,
Jeren Mithril Tybonn (Knight of Ansalle)

One of three sisters whom Celestial would be delighted to meet

Lord Samuel,

I'm not a member of the Ered Luin, but I also wish to state that - if I were a member - I would gladly follow Sir Celestial into battle.

I sure hope the letter that was sent to him, is fake and means nothing. Should he be replaced I seriously doubt that this is the Cagilan Empire I've been fighting for - and lost many good men while doing so.

The rat finally rears its head

Nobles of the Empire,

Prime Minister Samuel also happens to be the Sponsor for the Ered Luin. He has the full authority to switch both the Marshal and the SIC.

As for the call to relieve Sir Celestial, it was I who made that request.

Now some of you are questioning why he was relieved. I shall explain.

Sir Celestial is an excellent fighter and a brave defender of the realm. There is no question about that.

Moreover, he was my pupil when I was Viscountess of Rauxod and a Mentor. He was a very good student, asking lots of questions and curious about the workings of the realm.

However, it has become apparent that I failed to instill in him a sense of the proper heirarchy of the Empire. Nay, the world! I have tried to repair this mistake through conversations with Sir Celestial, but to no avail.

Peasants have their uses. Adventurers (both outlaws and freemen) are very useful. Yet they are still baseborn. We are nobles. There is no crossing of that line. Ever.

Sir Celestial, while an able warrior, cannot be trusted with command over others if he does not recognize this fundamental difference.

This hierarchy is the way of the world.

If one cannot recognize and obey this order, one must accept the consequences.

Thank you,
Renee Quasath (Duchess of Nida)

Where are you now, my friend? Auron - missing in action

Lord Marshal Zond and Lady Duke Quasath,

With all due respect, I would like to request reassignment from the Guardians of Ered Luin if indeed Sir Celestial is to be relieved of his secondary command. During Lord Zond's imprisonment, Sir Fury commanded our army with temperance, decisiveness, and daring, showing all of the qualities that mark a man for military greatness. Though I may disagree with some of his personal views, I could not speak ill of a member of my family, even a bastard of a peasant. My life has been saved before by commoners fighting along side me. It is they who truly spill their blood for our crown. Just because they lack the intelligence of nobles is no reason for persecution. Even the basest smelling of flowers, with the sharpest of thorns has power in the hands of a true healer, just as the lowest men of the empire may have use if utilized properly by their lords. I have no desire to fight in an army that punishes the free expression of its leaders and will put pride before intelligent leadership, as Sir Celestial is without doubt the best man for the job. I will, of course, stay on and fight if it is required of me, but I respectfully request reassignment to the Eaglin Eagles if Marshal Kinsey is willing.

In Honor and Defense,
Auron D'Koran (Knight of Esgalons)

Brother to the Judge

Knight Fury-

Noble or no, if your willing to take arms and fight the enemies of the Empire, I will reserve a place in formation for you. Just keep a wide birth as I tend to lose sense of friend or foe in the heat of battle. When the battle rage is in my heart it is kill or be killed. My allegiance is to the Empire and my Duke, I care not for politics.

Upon arrival in Trawiy, in honor of Caledor, where should a knight find the ale that he might share a drink with comrades in honor of the fallen?

Duchess Renee,

if you felt that Sir Celestial has done something wrong, you should refer him to Judge Milan, who can then decide what punishment, if any, would be appropriate.

If you do not like Judge Milan's decisions, you are free to run against him in the next election.

With all due respect, I do not recall the realm electing you as Judge. So I believe demanding Sir Celestial's removal is a bit pre-mature.

Who first chided Celestial for revealing his voting tendencies – the House of Fury has its own ways

I would like to make public my vote on the issue of "Is it tolerable for a noble to consider a peasant kin".

I believe that the answer is yes, if only because we cannot alter the fact that there are occasions where a nobleman has slept with a peasant, and the peasant girl bore a child from it. While that resulting offspring is not a noble, they are kin to the nobleman's legitimate children. I do not see any good reason that the children of the two mothers should be forbidden from correspondence.

I would wish however, that Celestial Fury would quit stating his relationship with his common kin. I'm starting to get the impression that he's proud of the relationship that he has with a peasant.

Claims to be old by referring to others as young – has a colourful history that is not reflected in his words

Celestial Fury,

I don't like to participate in heated discussions but i would like to tell you some words.

You talk about social oppression. What that means? Do you expect anything else when you talk and act as if peasants were our peers? That goes against the roots of our society. I don't whip peasants if there is no reason, i don't believe in such actions but they cannot decide there own fate, if they try they should be punished. That is how our world works and those are the rules, you contribute to them by being a noble. Do you want to change this society? Perhaps you will be happier in a world without nobility, then you should take a sword, join the peasants and change it with blood. If you do, you will see how the same peasants you defend will be the firsts to fight against you.

Sincerely,
Nuno Freire de Andrade (Knight of Eaglin)

Though a shadow falls on the House of Fury, nothing to fear - it is only a shade

Shanka Foonfa Courcelle, Duke of Cagil has appointed Gorm as the new Viscount of Trawiy.

For as long as I have been here, the Prime Minister was always the one appointing new local lords. Why has the Duke of Cagil done the appointment this time? Was this a personal decision or was political pressure brought to bear? Was this by proxy?

Why was the election not allowed to run its course? Was I the only candidate? Is this a plot to deny me a fair chance? Why did we not see if I had support or not through voting?

I protest, I strongly protest at this oppression, a secret pact of the highest order. It is an abuse of power and process. I urge anyone who believes in justice to protest as well. If this can happen to me it can happen to you. I may not agree with you but I would defend your right to be heard and justice to be served and not to be discriminated against because of it.

To protest is sometimes the only option of dealing with someone abusing his powers, short of leaving the realm. More importantly, however, it makes your voice heard in a way that can not be easily ignored, for it can carry consequences - if many members of the realm protest, the abusive character might even be removed from the position he abused.

I have been advised that this is the risk and the path I chose by speaking that which those do not wish to hear. To this, I say: Nothing ventured, nothing gained... No guts, no glory. And also: if you want to be seen, stand up, if you want to be heard, speak up, if you want to be respected, shut up. I want to be respected but I want to be heard more.

Position is a precarious things. The higher up the social ladder you are the harder the fall. Position is a fleeting thing and what is given can be taken away. Nobles, do not love you position so much that you fear speaking up. Power tends to corrupt and if we do not keep it in check, who will?

The grognards thought they had seen all and done all – then we came

Forgive me for correction you Sir Nuno Freire de Andrade, but I do have a sense of hierachy along with a healthy sense of respect and have properly addressed them. It has been said that how we treat our servants is reflective of how we really (in our hearts) treat our peers and seniors. You were most kind in suggesting that I have not been removed yet as SiC so we should not jump the sword so to speak and I thank you for that.

However, your brother is poised to become the ruler of Coria and perhaps you might like to suggest that his rule be tempered with justice and fairness unlike that which I have been subjected to here.

I do too have a clue about how this realm and this senate works. The government machinery (ooc: protest options) does NOT allow me to protest against dukes and from the recent switch in region loyalties I doubt he is behind this (I will stand corrected). The government machinery only allows me to protest against the PM, the General, the Judge, and the Banker. Go through your options to protest and see for yourself. As I said, having searched past records, the PM has been the one doing the appointing. Now suddenly there is a change and I can only make one assumption and as the ruler he must take the responsibility for all appointments.

Will you, Sir Nuno Freire de Andrade remain calm and not heated if this is happening to you? Of course you would not because you will not be in this situation in the first place. I like everyone. I just do not like some of the things they do to me. I don't know if this is personal (ooc: or RP gone out of control) but I protest. I protest with all my heart and might and will NOT go quietly. I have not launched any personal campaign against any noble but I feel the shadows of a pact against me.

What is this fear? Of me? I pose no threat and have threaten no one but only seek justice for my kin and I tried to do so discreetly by talking philosophically in changing the mindsets and not the status of nobles. I seek a change in attitude. Why do you fear that?

Once again power play comes into the picture. Step on the peasants for they are beneath us. Just as we can step on those who are lower in rank than us. I ask: be fair and make peace. Or make hell and let's see where this goes.

Who is the peasant and who is the noble? The height of arrogance stops with him - a political opportunistic rat

Celestial:

You are an idiot. A peasant who does not know his place, nor how the hierarchy of the Empire works.

To begin, Duchess Renee was not the only one who asked you be removed from command. I did as well. I believe that one of the themes I presented to your superiors was that I was no longer willing to follow a stupid peasant into battle.

Peasant, due to your incessant fraternizing with the lower class, and continued public support of your peasant brother.

Stupid, because in two successive battles as SIC of the GEL, you led us to ruin. I get irritated when I lose 150 gold of special forces because you are an incompetent peasant. I get more irritated when I can only afford a unit of poor infantry to replace them. But I get down right angry when, due to your stupidity, I lose them as well, and I have to go begging to my Duke for funds to recruit more men. In peace, it would be bad enough. But this was during a major war, when funds were desperately needed on the front.

You are a stupid peasant, Celestial. You do not understand that as such, you will be removed from command. You do not understand that if those above you seek to remove you, whining and stomping your feet will do nothing. You do not understand that by continuing this ignorant, peasantish behavior, you ruin any chance of future command in this Empire.

If you are actually a noble, which, at this point, I highly doubt, then act like one. Restore the honor of your family's name, which you have stomped into the dirt. Either that, or go back to farming.
Famine Rider (Marquess of Strahan)

There were unconfirmed reports of his reappearance

Friends and Comrades, Nobles of the Cagilan Empire:

My heart sickens as my eyes report the discourse of this dialog. The accusations and insults put forth by Sir Famine Rider are most grievous in nature. It disturbs me that we as nobles may speak to each other in this way.

Are we at war with Falasan or with ourselves? Are peasants mere insects to be crushed and degraded beneath our noble feet? Or are they the farmers who put food on our table, the soldiers that bleed for our cause and the adventurers who cleanse our land of evil? Is the CE a nation of elitist, bigoted, power hungry fools? Or an enlightened nation of progressive, honorable and prudent men?

Before another word, I would like to make it known that Sir Famine Rider is a friend and a mentor to me and I hold him in the highest of regards. It is with such deference and respect that I quote his first words to me as a knight of the CE

"However, our peasants are....peasants. And they are generally not all that wise or educated. There are many ways in which they could be more productive, if only they could be shown how to do it. Instead of having an Authoritarian estate, a lord could instead set his up to support Production - helping the peasants organize, streamline the buying, selling, and transporting of goods, building centralized grain stores..."

By my interpretation of your own words, My Lord, it were better to guide peasants and train them like puppies to your will, than beat them and force them into slavery. If you beat a dog, it will not obey you, but run to the hills and return to its feral way of life. These lower life forms are for us to guide and protect through our superior knowledge and wisdom. It is our responsibility.

In defense of Sir Celestial Fury's military command, I would like to remind everyone that the Duchess Renee Quasath also had a role of command during the stint of our marshal's absence. To criticize Celestial Fury's judgment is to criticize hers.

Of course, as SiC he is ultimately responsible for the results of the orders he issued, but the noble Duchess did express her military opinion and Sir Fury acted upon it, as it was in accordance with his own. Indeed, what knight among all of you would not heed the words of a Duchess, though command be solely yours?

The disaster in Etoge and Vornion was not his fault, though it remains his responsibility. Several TL's either moved to the wrong region, or could not reach the battlefield in time, so the Guardians of Ered Luin were forced to fight without them.

I would like to point out that upon Lord Salvador's return he commended both the Duchess of Nida and his SiC Sir Celestial Fury, saying

"I am also honored and proud and greatly appreciative for the leadership and initiative of SiC Celestial and Duchess Renee. May I continue to rely on your support and advice in good health."

You openly disagree with that, my Mentor? What would you have done differently? Lord Zond, have you forgotten those words, that you allow him to be stripped of his rank in a political scandal?

By all accounts, the man's father slept with a peasant girl, and so Celestial had been forced to call him brother, for who in honor would deny their own blood? His hands have been tied from the beginning, and you would press the blade to his throat none the less.

And what of Sir Enri Kinsey? He has not been relieved from his command. He has not been slighted as Sir Celestial has. And I might also point out that we have almost no success on the front under his charge!

Let he who is without folly cast the first stone! Have none of you taken a peasant to your bed? Let us judge justly and fairly. Both men are talented and prudent leaders for my gold, and I would serve either of them and follow them both into battle. Let us forget these petty happenings and unite to focus our efforts on our true enemies!

WE ARE THE NOBLES OF THE CAGILAN EMPIRE, THE STRONGEST AND PUREST BLOOD IN THE WORLD!!! IF WE UNITE, WHO MAY STAND AGAINST US!!??

In Honor,
Auron D'Koran (Knight of Esgalons)

Goodbye, brother. There is no room for me in the Order

M'lords,

I have heard the Church mentioned in a couple letters concerning the realationships between a noble and peasants. In order to better clear the waters of any murk that may come through, I will expound upon the official decision and doctrine of The Order.

No noble may be held accountable for the actions of another. Much less so in the case of ignoble brothers, cousins, etc... It is under this premise that no person shall be excommunicated from our holy Order simply because of ignoble relations. Also, a noble that openly accepts and acknowledges his ignoble relation is still considered an Orderly noble by our church's doctrine.

However, any noble found to openly acknowledge that he is the sire of an ignoble person or otherwise peasant will be excommunicated after an investigation, discussion, and vote amongst the elders of The Order. Our reasoning is that, by fathering a peasant, a person causes Chaos through disruption of the natural hierarchy. If a noble does not reveal his relation to his peasant son, then he is excusable; if he acknowledges his relation then he is intentionally sowing dissent, dishonour, and thus Chaos throughout the world.

If this isn't clear enough, or if you wish to express your discontent with the decision, please adress all letters to the Elders of The Order so we may have private counsel with each person.

May you be blessed,
Telemechus Barthalemus (Priest of The Order)

Opposer of the whispering campaign

This is silly. A noble who acts like a peasant is still a noble. A peasant who acts like a noble is still a peasant. Blood lines, not behavior, dictate nobility. I realize that some of you would have it otherwise, but here we are.

Sir Celestial has been a noble in good standing in our realm for a long time now. A peasant would not have been able to keep up a charade for this long. His claims to have a peasant for a brother is rather strange, I agree, but I've certainly seen other nobles on Atamara doing crazier things. Call his actions ignoble, if you must, but please do not challenge his nobility, unless you're willing to take him to Court over it. Otherwise, you're just blowing a lot of hot air and demoralizing the other nobles.

  • any of the nine grades of angels in medieval angelology (one of a class of spiritual beings; a celestial attendant of God)

Chaos

  • a state of utter confusion or disorder; a total lack of organization or order
  • the behavior of systems that follow deterministic laws but appear random and unpredictable

The House of Fury

  1. Celestial Fury (Angelic Knight)
  2. Eternal Fury (Angelic Knight)
  3. Divine Fury (Fallen Angel)
And thus, the brethren of the House of Fury were ordained in celestial order with divine righteousness and eternal bliss to bring order to chaos. With this, I, Sir Celestial Fury - a Tai-Lo Sword - fulfil my Order(ly) imperative as requested by the Order and assert my lineage as demanded long ago by Priest Torsaan.

The spread of the Order of Ered Luin

Chaos exists even in the most natural order of things. For what is light if there is no darkness to compare to? It is a human condition to seed chaos - a condition that we in the Order strive against every day. Some are more fortunate, being blessed with rationale and logic, kindness and charity while others believe they fight for order but are in fact chaotic in nature.

Chaos - that behavior of systems that follow deterministic laws but appear random and unpredictable. Deterministic by following personal gain at the cost of disrupting order and remaking it in their own image for their own selfish benefits. Random and unpredictable, they only appear to be. There is no cure for these creatures. For them, it is easier to wreck havoc and destruction and sow chaos then it is to create harmony and life.

Therefore, I, Sir Celestial Fury - a Tai-Lo Sword, have emerged reborn from the cause of chaos, stronger than ever to uphold order and justice and bring harmony to the universe! It is naught by accident that I now wield the FIRE of the Black Longsword of Flame to cut through the confusing lies of chaos and the awesome POWER of the Dazzling Book of the Dead to send chaos... to their eternal unrest.

Vengeance will be ours!

Message sent to two Elders of the Order

A test of the Order’s leadership…

I write this message to the Father and the Father of the Sun - being the most senior members of the Order and the ones I trust the most in the Order:

As you have known now, I have been running in referendums for a local lordship for some time now and not only have I lost everytime but sometimes others have been appointed over me without even a chance at an election. If the purpose of The Order of Ered Luin (as the spiritual side of the Order) is still to:

use our powers together to grow our brethren to the highest ranks possible. We vote in blocs, we nominate our brethren for important positions. We crave power so as to avenge our Five Ancestors and further our cause. We will use our powers to make money, and our guildhouses will serve as sanctuary from those who wish to persecute our brethren.

and the The Order/Tai-Lo Oath is still to:

help a brother before a stranger, and a peasant before a lord

then I ask:

   * that the Order support me in my quest for a
     lordship
   * and two members of the Order be expelled:
   * Duchess Renee, a Tai-Lo Templar,
for persecution against me by conspiring
to remove me as SIC of the Guardians of Ered Luin
with the excuse of helping a brother before a stranger,
and a peasant before a lord that goes against the
Tai-lo Oath and thus making a mockery of the Order
   * Famine Rider, a Brother, who subscribes to the same
ideology as the Duchess and has publicly humiliated
a member of the Order by calling me stupid and a peasant
and who has been reported to the Titans (not by me)
If I have any standing at all in the Order then I ask that the right thing be done in the name of Order and Justice.

Message sent to two Elders of the Order

And it’s founding tenets…

Father Zadar, your offer is much appreciated and accepted. However, be warned and you must know by now, that the members I mentioned are no true followers of the Order but self-serving and put their interests ahead of the Order. They do not believe in the tenets of the Order. By allowing their idealogy, schemes and superior attitudes to prevail while maintaining their rank as members of the Order can and does harm the Order. Not all members are as outspoken as me but they, I believe, watch and observe how the leadership deals with or does not with members who go againsts the tenets of the Order. Justice must not only be served but be seen to be served.

Nonetheless, I do not wish to put the leadership in a quandary for they are powerful in their own right. However, unless the Order wishes to change its tenets it has, in my opinion, no choice but to censure the duo or to demote them if expulsion is deemed too harsh - I do not deem it so. With the Order there is no black or white, no grey areas to cloud the issue. They have gone against the tenets and turned order into chaos - and left to their own devices, will slowly, but surely, corrupt the Order - starting with the younger members who are about to take their oaths... and know not that which they pledge.

I am willing to take this to the court of public opinion in the Order if that be advised for I know my rights and I have been wronged. How many of these The Order of Ered Luin/The Thirty-Six Oaths have they broken?

I quote from The Order/Book of Ancients 2:

   * A Tai-Lo must understand his oath...
   * The duties of the Elders are to ensure the purity of The Order...
   * The ejection of a member from our order shall fall under the power of
the discipline Elder. A person’s ejection must be made public, a reason
for ejection must be given, and a vote by the elders must be made. If a
majority of Elders agree, then that person will be ejected.
I, Sir Celestial Fury - a Tai-Lo Sword - do hereby call for an ejection and a vote.

…and it is all a lie. There is no substance in the Order

(If you do not mind, Father of the Sun, I am also sending this to the Father that he may also know what I intend to do.)

My apologies, Father of the Sun. My membership in the Order does not go that far back to that unfortunate event. I now find myself looking back at the notice at every temple of the Order that says, if I'm not mistaken, "Why am I here?" To bring order to the realm? But first there must be order within the Order.

If the two who left did not wish to follow the principles (or the oaths for that matter) of the Order, then pray tell, why should they be in the Order? This has now gone beyond my political aspirations or vengeance. I am truly troubled now that I realise that things are not in order. The Order must not sacrifice (founding) principles for (maintaining) authority or injustice (towards me) for unity (in the Order).

Forsooth, I have a mind to test the rank and file of the Order and see how many are really committed and how many are - heavens forbid - ... chaotic. Let us see how many will scream for my expulsion and curse at my existence (for speaking the truth) then we shall see what order there is in the Order and who has been the most faithful to its tenets.

Letter from Celestial Fury
Message sent to all members of the Order

The Order exists as a political convenience. It’s founding tenets and ideals a mass deception

With the proliferation of the faith of the Word in Cagilan, it may be time to reassess the Order's sway upon the minds of Cagilans and to recall the beginning of the spread of the Word.

As I remember, though the memory of more senior members should extend further back, the Order engage in a theological dialogue with Priest Torsaan who at the time was a citizen of a neighbouring realm. Though his views seemed strange to me and his language even more incomprehensible - with guttural sounds that jar the delicate vocal chords of ordinary Cagilans - the Order nevertheless saw fit to invite him to our realm with an official welcome at one of our temples.

I believe Priest Torsaan took the opportunity given by the Order to establish himself and his faith in Cagilan by first embracing citizenship and then spreading his faith (What else did the Order expect him to do?). I sense, through his hard work behind the scenes and his determination, he has enabled his faith to blossom.

I speak this as I have heard talk among members of disgruntlement at the proliferation of the Word to the detriment of the Order. Though he was welcomed with open arms by the Order, relations have deteriorated somewhat (behind the scenes) and the Word is now regarded as misguided.

If something is to be done as has been voiced in the Order by others, I would suggest that the Order reassess its religious significance in the minds of current members first. Strength comes from within and the Order must first be put - in order.

When there was a call for new members to take their oaths, how many took up the call? Not a single one - made their public vows. This should have been a warning sign that things were not right when even the ordinary members were apathetic about their membership and viewed their religious affiliations as nothing more then mere symbolism.

What then do I propose?

  1. A return to the founding tenets of the Order.
  2. Upholding the oaths and making sure that members take it seriously - with
reminders and discipline from the top.
  3. Retain quality over quantity - quality members who care about the Order
and will do what it takes to make it right rather than a padded
membership that gives rise to a false illusion of strength that will
readily crumble at the first instance of being asked to uphold their vows.
  4. Reshuffle the upper hierarchy with members who are bold enough to make a
     change.
Support me, disagree with me - or make your own voice heard. I have offered my thoughts and services. Will there be takers?

The House of Fury takes up a quill against injustice

I protest at General Khaludh's decision to relinquish his duties. He has been charged with ensuring Falasan's defeat and has yet to accomplish that. He should be reinstated with all haste and his resignation should not have been accepted in the first place.

I have heard the grumblings of discontentment and confusion. It is simple. There is a chain of command and the general is in charge of strategy. While others may offer alternative suggestions, the general makes the final decision which should be followed by all. Unless there are those who think they know better then by all means, offer yourselves for the position.

Unless of course, that has been the whole point of this military feint. It does not take an old warhorse to see maneuvering from afar. This whole affair smacks of political opportunistic rats. I do not know who you are (in this matter) so speak and prove yourself (yourselves?) right or reveal yourself when you are appointed general. Then we shall see if you are made of sterner stuff once you have come out of the shadowy intrigues of backstabbers.

Yesterday enemies, today brothers? I think not. Mark my words.

Accepting the Duke of Barad Falas into the folds of the Empire poses a great threat to our Empire. He cannot be accepted. It is not personal but a matter of the security of the whole Empire. The Duchy of Barad Falas can be switched again just as easily and in a future crucial battle, we might very well find ourselves fighting against those who but a day ago were fighting on our side.

That is but one scenario. There are many others - espionage, sabotage, willful disobedience. On the cusp of our victory it is imperative that we do not let our guard down and make terrible blunders in the name of magnanimity that will one day return to haunt us. Future generations will bemoan the day when our lack of foresight and wisdom enabled enemies of the realm - enemies we had sworn to destroy - a welcome into our house all due to a loophole in the law which for all intent and purpose we would never have accepted in the first place. That loophole must be closed and those in power need to petition the Titans.

The realm of Falasan cannot continue to exist. None of its regions must remain. Let its knights disperse to whatever realm or island they wish. The only magnanimity one should offer a defeated enemy is to let them go freely and unharmed but never an opportunity for revenge. What do you think they will say now that they are in our realm? True remorse? That they have now seen the errors of their ways? Yesterday enemies, today brothers? I think not.

Mark my words.

Singing to a different tune and flying with different feathers

I usually don't say anything unless I have something to say and now I do. When I first joined I was curious - curious as to the purpose of the Imperial Movement.

Actions speak louder than words and no matter what I've been told as to the function of the movement, what I see and hear for myself is what I define the movement with.

Right now, the only movements I hear and see are the ones to move members into positions of power. In fact it has always been so since the day I joined. But now, I see that it is not altruism that drives the motivations of this guild but rather the opportunities afforded by a unified voting bloc to further the aspirations of individual members.

A golden opportunity was missed by the guild to state its stance on the acceptance of former Falasani knights into Cagilan. It matters not if the views of the guild differed from mine in the matter. What mattered was that it stayed silent.

So then, what is the Imperial Movement really all about? A chance to make a difference in the realms or in one's self? It might be good for the guild to take a step back and reconsider its priorities. A chance to speak in a unified voice on matters that concern the realms or a chance for personal gain by keeping in the shadows and ruffling no feathers.

Should it be the latter, then there is no place for me here as I sing to a different tune and fly with different feathers.

A vote for Jeren is a vote for chivalry

Congratulations, Duke Salvador on your appointment. We all walk our own paths, you have chosen the impartial road and it has served you well, and I have chosen mine.

In the matter of the dissolution of the Guardians of Ered Luin, it is a matter of the interest of the realm and as such, I write to all. For the record, I will miss your 'heads up' though I am curious if your new vested priviledges will grant you any leanings or if the tried and true will hold true still.

For you sponsorship of the new army, I put forth the name, Companions of Ered Luin. It hints of the comradeship that exists and should exist in the army, is not overtly aggressive and will serve as a constant reminder of the need to bond with one another and not to put personal interests above the unity of the army.

And now for the most important choice of Marshal, there can be without a doubt in the minds of the realm, one who has actively and with personal initiative, urged and coordinated efforts within the army and the realm at large the defence of Cagilan. One who would inspire others to follow and is respectful to his fellow knights, does not belittle nor curse them, has never been referred to the Titans for such behaviour, does not have the need to raise his profile by stepping on others, infused with a sense of humility and not false bravado.

It is a time to correct past wrongs and not perpetuate it. Let the new army be a fresh start, unhindered by any baggage that if left to remain, will never ever, nor will I ever let it, rise to its full glory.

I speak of Lord Jeren Mithril Tybonn, Earl of Avrende - he whom I would gladly follow into battle, as My Marshal.

Political wilderness has come to an end

Senators,

I wish to ask if a region lords needs the permission of a guild founder or the senate to close a guild in the region? I speak of the Cat's Cradle in Alaise. I have sent messages to senior elders in the past but have never received a reply.

If there are any here, please let me know as I intend to raze the guild. It does not serve any practical function in my opinion and neither am I a member although I do love cats. It seems a frivolous waste of resources for nobility to indulge in outside the privacy of their personal estates.

A new liege replies...

The Cat's Cradle is a guild which I constructed and wish to see remain open. It is no drain upon your resources, and I see no need for you to demolish it. I myself have kept it open and have seen that its treasury has sufficient resources to maintain the building there.

How goes the Mace?

Lord Celestial,

The Cat's Cradle was founded by Lady Desiree, I believe, or perhaps even the region's previous Lord.

So she might be a bit angry at you when she returns. I don't see any other potential problems if you close the guild.

On the other hand, the guild will pay taxes into your region's coffers as long as its members are funding it. If it no longer has any members since Lady Desiree's disappearance, then your tax collectors will close the guild house when its treasury runs out.

This is unacceptable!!! Viscount Fury I demand to know the reasoning you have for destroying that which I built and for stealing from me!!!

Important Event for "The Cat's Cradle"

Celestial Fury, Viscount of Alaise has destroyed the small guildhouse of The Cat's Cradle in his region, burning it to the ground and taking the 43 gold that were stored there. Loyal servants could save 7 gold, which have been added to the global treasury. Also check the Guild Log for recent events.

This guild was one that I had constructed!!! I invested a significant amount of time and gold into creating this guildhouse, had maintained the guildhouse faithfully through my own personal gold.

I demand compensation for not only the gold that was stolen from me by the current region lord, but for the original gold that had been invested into the guild in the first place.

Samuel Haine (Duke of Eaglin)

The Founder of the Order surprisingly comes to help...
It is sad that Duke Samuel do accusate Viscount Fury for stealing even he has not steal anything. Viscount Fury has closed a guildhouse. That action is not protected by any of our laws. There were talk about this guild but nobody did not said that it was an active or why it should be staying. So far every region Lord do have rights for closing guild houses. If our senate do wish to change that we should add a new law but public accusations is not the way to solve things.Pehaps our Judge should look more closely on this matter.
Zadar Nargath Perkeleet (Viscount of Lakota)

Letter from Samuel Haine
Message sent to everyone in "The Imperial Senate"

While it may seem otherwise, Celestial does NOT purposely try to get into trouble...

Really Viscount Perkeleet?

Which part of sacking the guildhouse for 43 gold is hard for you to understand? Which part of destroying a guildhouse that it cost me 250 gold to construct puzzles you? Perhaps you should re-read the copy of the report where it clearly states that the Viscount took 43 gold from the treasury...gold which I had put there for building maintenance. And the accusation is not public, it is in the Senate, where such things should be. Had I taken it public, I would have made the accusation to the entire realm.

Perhaps there is no specific law regarding the destruction of guildhouses...but there is also no law regarding murder of another noble, but I doubt that would be acceptable. And there is precedent as we already to not allow for the destruction of temples in a region. Guildhouses are merely the next step. Perhaps you saw no purpose in the guild, but it meant a great deal to me, both in time, purpose and financial investment.

Sir Samuel. You did said that Viscount fury did steal from YOU. You did said here in Senate and accusate that Viscount Fury did steal from you that is not a way how a Noble should act. He did close a guildhouse ,he did NOT stole anything from your purse.

Yes we all do know that building guildhouses do cost but the POINT is he did NOT steal anything from you. That is a fact. If you do want to change our laws you do have work with it.

Is it hard to understand what stealing mean and is it hard to understand what do means to accusate fellow senator from stealing.

Duke Samuel,

I am sure Viscount Celestial will be glad to provide you with the forty three gold taken from the Guild House when he is next available to do so - ie. within a city with a bank. The closing of Guild Houses is not against the law. It is not frowned upon. Petitions to change that fact would surely be agreeable to all those within the Senate currently. To make the comparison between closing a Guild House on your lands to murdering a fellow noble is a bit excessive.

On the note of Sauvia, I would be glad to travel to the region to have my men do police work while the vote is carried out. I have to wait near the Falasan border until they decide anyway. I am against the swift appointment of a single Knight we've never heard from. The chance to campaign is an opportunity for a Knight to become known and therefore become accepted when appointed. With the region only at main - far from revolt, you'll note - and several Knights interested in campaigning, I think the vote should carry through to completion.

With regards,
Neleron Carna (Earl of Ansalle)

In regards to Duke Samuel's allegations of Viscount Fury's theft of gold and destruction of the guildhouse...

I ask PM Shanka Foonfa to appoint an independent council to look into this matter. I was a member of the guild in question I must recuse myself to avoid any impression of favoritism. As to the allegation of slander, it is tied to the other charge and I feel it inappropriate for me to decide it as well. I share this with the Senate as I wish the proceedings to be open for all to participate as they feel so inclined.

Prime Minister- I will obey the decision of the independent council.

It is your decision, but I would recommend a tribunal of Dukes Pikku, Dakkon, and Salvador. All have long service to the Empire and owe little to Samuel or Fury. I believe they would be impartial in their decision.

Well stated indeed!

Ouch. This is quite a disappointment.

Greetings Senators,

Here we have a possible breach of conduct and respect within the hierarchy of peers as well as two sides of a story to explain reasoning behind the actions perpetrated and the repsonse . As proposed by Justice Milan, I would pledge to do my best to give a fair and impartial impression of what has transpired as I have seen and heard. However, I have yet to hear of Lord Celestial's answer to Duke Samuel's reponse. I will do my best to outline what has been presented thus far:

a) Let the record show, a few days ago, Lord Celestial did ask about the purpose of the Cat's Cradle Guildhouse here in the Senate. He had stated that he had inquired to the senior guild members in advance and apparantly recieved no reply -however the time frame is unknown. Lord Celestial did state that he 'intends to raze' it, not simply close it.

b) Duke Samuel then properly replied to the inquiry in the Seante within a reasonable time frame with a plausible answer with reasoning and monetary support to back up his claim to request that the guildhouse be kept open.

c) The region of Alaise is within the duchy of Eaglin, Duke Samuel is Lord Celestial's liege lord and thus Lord Celestial owes fealty.

d) Lord Enri did provide follow up reasons and explanation to Lord Celestial about the nobles invloved in the guild and about the financial support covered by the guildhouse thus not being a burden on the region's taxes.

e) To the Senate's knowledge, without prior warning or subsequent follow up to Duke Samuel's request and response, Lord Celestial took it upon himself to not only simply close, but to sack; therefore burning the only guildhouse of that guild to the ground, effectively ending the existence of the guild in question.

f) 43 Gold was taken from the sacking by Lord Celestial. 7 gold was saved. Therefre 50 gold was put there previously by Duke Samuel as claimed. An accusation was issued here in the Senate from Duke Samuel to Lord Clestial of having "stole" the gold. To our knowledge it has not yet been returned.

g) Lord Zadar Nargath countered Duke Samuel's argument of accusation.

h)Duke Samuel as lord liege of Lord Celestial has higher place in the hierarchy, thus seniority and has a right to question the actions of his vassal.

i) Currently there are no laws that forbid the closing of a guildhouse. There are some precedence and laws of permitting the closure of temples that are at odds with the interests of the Cagilan Empire.

j) We have yet to hear more from Lord Celestial's side.

So far this is what has been presented, if I have missed something, then someone please let me know. In all fairness so far, both sides have a claim, and both have a loss of face, now it is a matter of determing the balance of the scales and seeing where honor and justice weighs in this outcome. I have not and will not give a decision/opinion on this matter until after a little more time is given in presenting arguments.

Thank you all for your time and patience in this matter of jurisprudence.

In Honor and Service,
Salvador Zond (Duke of Nida)

And now the Banker gets in(!) All that's left is the General - by then it'll be a court martial(!)

Senators,

Though I was content to hold my tongue on the issue of guild houses, some of the letters I have read this day seem rather ignorant. Disregarding issues that don't directly effect you is hardly befitting for Senators who claim to work for the betterment of the Empire. Let me simplify this matter for all involved.

A) Lord Celestial inquired as to the guild house and Duke Samuel responded with an informative letter.

B) The guild house pays the region taxes. It is an economic boon not a drain.

C) The guild was created at Duke Samuel's personal expense and it does no harm to the Empire in anyway.

There is literally not a single good reason for the guild house to be destroyed. Truth be told, I find the destruction to be an insult on Samuel's person and considering all his years of loyal and dedicated service to this Empire this is a sad showing of how we repay that kind of dedication and hard work. Any Senator who supports this destruction is not worthy of the title of Senator. Destroying things simply because there is no law against you doing it, or because you feel you have the right to do it as region lord, is not the behavior of an honorable Senator of this Republic. This is a travesty and any who do not speak out against it are as guilty as the one who did it.

The matter is that simple.

In service to the Empire,

(OOC: Looking at the message group list it would seem that Celestial still hasnt been added to the Senate message group hence, he probably didnt read Samuuel's answer or any of our letters... this could all be a misunderstanding of sorts.. Ugh. Celestial is not in the Senate list...so he has not gotten any of these messages at all. Which means he was completely in his right to destroy the guildhouse since no one responded to his asking in the first place.

I knew he was brash at times (like certain other people we know and love) but I did not expect him to do such a thing as this with no provocation. I am glad to find out about this actually.

So can we squash this whole thing please?

I will personally raise 250 gold to send to Samuel (given time for a few weeks of taxes to come in) if we can just end this and get on to other issues.

Phew! What a first act as Lord of Alaise...

Though I agree that returning the 250 gold (plus the gold taken from the guild at its razing) would be technically "fair", I personally think he should rebuild the guild house as a gesture of good will to Samuel (possibly with aid from others if they deem that a more equitable way to solve this matter given the circumstances).

Celestial may have extenuating circumstances in regards to his actions, but it is as much his duty to notice this as it is the Rulers (as only the ruler can add or remove people from message groups). As ignorance is never a good excuse I find it hard for us to fall back on it. I don't think punishing the character of Samuel for two other players oversteps would be very fair of us. I might add that until I said something none of us noticed it either after all.

I'm sure we can all be reasonable as players and use this OOC knowledge to aid us in fairly resolving this IC. Perhaps Celestial and Shanka can kill a scribe or three in the name of justice and then the Senate can aid Celestial in rebuilding the guild house?

The letters in the Senate were some of the more refined. You can bet there were a LOT more nasty discussion in the Military Council - haha(!)

Alright, this is unfortunate. argh!

This problem, like most problems all boils down to communication and the lack of it, after all. See! "Communication is the key!"Well, not to say too much just yet, but Salvador has sent a message to the PM to set the wheels in motion on a fair outcome and make sure Celestial is included in the Senate (probably when Shanka logs on next). Someone needs to bring Celestial up to speed on what has transpired so far, including a copy of all the letters here in the Senate related to this incident.

Thanks, guys.

After cutting and pasting all these, I can sure appreciate it. Thanks man!

Damn that was a lot to cut and paste :p

So the bottom line is that it SEEMED like you were being a total asshole but you were not receiving ANY of the letters.

Your call IC or OOC on what to do now. I am sure Shanka will add you to the Imperial Senate public group as soon as he logs on next :]

A magnificent bas...(?) If only...

I can't believe it. I assure you all I don't purposely try to get Celestial into trouble - not before and not now :)

There was no way I could tell Celestial wasn't in the Imperial Senate Message Group. You don't see your own name when you send messages to a group you're in because you don't receive your own messages. I did wonder why the Senate was rather silent but then the realm as a whole has been quiet lately. BTW Antonio is also not in the Senate Message Group yet...

And trust Renee to take a cheap shot (!) ;) And no, Celestial wasn't trying to emulate Renee who caused the controversy in closing temples (I made sure I read up on Renee's history after the last incident :P)

...and no(!) I didn't anticipate this nor am I laughing all the way to the bank (Celestial has travelled back to Eaglin because he wants to go to the tournament!) but if I were I know a certain Duchess will be privately commending Celestial for being a "magnificent bas..." <-- phrase taken from the Dlist, not mine :D

So I guess Celestial will write a reply IC as much has been said IC...

And the moral of the story is trust Celestial - he doesn't play the backstabbing game

My Lords,

Lord Jeren has just sent his messenger with copies of all your letters. I thank him for that. Let me now answer your letters.

Firstly, my sincerest apologies to my liege, Duke Samuel. I had no idea you built it nor did I know a single member. I have travelled widely across the width and breadth of the Empire and I had never seen another chapter of the Cat's Cradle.

As the sole chapter of the guild in Alaise, it looked to me a forlorn and defunct guild that didn't accept members nor reply to enquiries. I had in the past year applied to be a member. And as recent as a few months ago came across it again, forgot that I had applied to be a member in the past and sent a letter to its senior members asking for the nature of the guild and received no reply whatsoever.

To be safe, I requested for permission from this body and again not a reply nor did a single guild member speak up. I attributed this to a few factors: that I was new (and it was too soon for me to speak); there were no members of the guild; and no one cared if I razed it - and so I did.

As for tracing the error in which I did not receive your letters, it would have to be with the Prime Minister's Department but even then I can attribute it to the change in office and the paperwork that it entails. Bureacracy and red tape at the highest level of government must be seen to be believed.

I shall return the 43 gold to my liege (the destruction of the guild was purely an exercise in administration for me, I did not think of gold nor expected any) but as for rebuilding the guild - if it was indeed the last - then I would have to (re)-found(?) it? Perhaps it would be best if my liege then founded a new Cat's Cradle in Eaglin. Consider it an upgrade - better location, better exposure, and a chance to start everything from scratch with new memberships and positions! I am sure the gold needed is not an issue.

My thanks to Lord Zadar for speaking up for me. I was intending to speak to you on another matter and now it seems like I have the perfect opening. I shall be sending a message soon to the Order. My thanks too to the Lords who stood up for me and did not think me capable of such an act of willful disobedience.

Finally, if we go far back enough in time, I think you will find that we are all related in the branch of humanity. To give one's self airs over others due to the station that they are born in through no fault of theirs is seriously faulty thinking.

Let the records show that I have said this before: I do love cats!

The end of a spiritual wilderness...

As my political wilderness comes to an end so it seems must my own spiritual wilderness. The people of Alaise have spoken and I must respond.

I have now returned to the Order. It would seem that I have never left - in spirit - for I have never joined any other faith nor even considered it, neither before nor during my hiatus.

Should the Elders have no objections, I formally declare my (re-)entry into the public life of the Order. I have said all my oaths and would assume they are still binding.

It would seem that fate has set my path no matter how I try to steer it. If I am the 100th member to (re-)join it is indeed an auspicious number.

Should the Order require anything of me or Alaise, please do not hesitate to ask.

And this ends my awkward letter. Thank you.

Falasan says "Here Kitty Kitty and we say 'Meow'?!"

Senators,

This is what happens when we give too much quarter to a defeated enemy. An enemy does not stay defeated until it is removed from power. They will bide their time, gathering their strength and nursing their wounds until they sense a weakness in the Empire (and we cannot always be strong, internal and external influences will occur - relations with other realms can change) and then they will strike as all snakes do.

The Empire has made a mistake in letting them exist. Now, it seems we must be honourable and give them chance after chance?! The contents of the treaty, I believe is that if there was a single infraction, the treaty would cease to exist and we would return to a state of war. Now the treaty has not been signed and we STILL ARE AT WAR. Let us finish the job. If we are afraid of other realms viewing us as war-mongering and land grabbing then enlist their help and let them take what regions they will and assert to them that it is a matter of security - nothing more, nothing less.

We are a lion and while a cat will toy with its prey for a while I say enough with the playing!

The Mighty Cagilan Empire

Lord Archymond, and others:

Since you have asked I will explain. I told Khaludh that he was dishonorable and a traitor for stepping down from the generals position of our realm and then joining the realm that he had been chosen to crush. He stated that when he left it was due to some promise to their Queen and would only be for a short time and then he would be moving on. This was many months ago. He is still a member of Falasan. Flying the Falasan banner. This cannot be an honorable thing to do. How can anyone see this as honorable? And as far as his being a traitor, what else would you call a person who abandons their realm and liege in wartime to join the enemy?

Well, I could not contain my tongue and I messaged him such. He has taken offense and issued a duel to the death. He has thrown off the colors of our enemy and donned the colors of this great realm, like they mean nothing and can be done with a whim. Like the loyalty to your realm mean nothing that can be cast aside when it suits us. NO! If he want's a duel he can have it because I stand behind every word. I will not retract one syllable of it.

Letter from Khaludh Telrunya

A clash between two Titans of the Cagilan Empire

I've already explained the situation to you, yet you insist on repeating the same. I stepped down from the General's position way before I intended to fulfil my promise. I stepped down due several reasons, but this is not why I have this Duel with you, as information to the one who asked. Also, I have never chosen to crush Falasan. During my time as General the objective was and always has been the Duchy of Barad Falas. Nothing more, nothing less. The War with Falasan was already over. They had already surrendered, there was no more fighting. Nothing I did hurt the Empire.

I was already long gone from the Military Council before I decided to leave. I went to Falasan as a guest to make sure I would not be arrested when I tried entering the City of Barad Gardor and the Palace situated there. Sadly, there is always paperwork involved when you switch sides and with the Queen burdened with the Surrender Talks, there was no time yet to fulfil my promise in my one, not many, month that I stayed there. Yes, I was a guest there. I have clearly stated so and never changed that position. My loyalty has always been to the Empire as I told you. It never changed.

Yet you decide, through a Falasanite, to insult me. You question my Nobility, call me a traitor and dishonourable. Why? Because I have the Honour to uphold my promises! Falasan may be our enemy, but they are still Nobles, who have tried hard to defend their lands and to better themselves. No, but you, merely because they are our enemy, see no worth in promises made to Nobles of Falasan! You see no Honour in others for the sole reason that they are our current enemies! The Cagilan Empire holds her Honour as one of the highest virtues. Is this was has become of the Honour of the Empire I serve? You are compromising the very single reason why the Cagilan Empire is as superior as it is today!

For those severe insults issued against me I have issued the Duel. I have also come to the conclusion that you lack the Honour that is required to lead our Empire. It is that Honour that makes us the biggest and strongest Realm on the Continent and it is that Honour that you lack. If you keep that vile view on Honour our Empire will no longer prosper. Your improper conduct during my final days as General only strengthens that opinion.
Khaludh Telrunya (Former General of Cagilan Empire)

Personal is understandable

While it is curious that Lord Khaludh joined Falasan for a while to say that it is treachery is complicated. It can be a matter of technicality and also a point of view and many different interpretations.

I was curious when Lord Khaludh announced that he was joining Falasan but and the important thing here is no one seemed shocked or even said a word! If there was treachery it should have been brought up then. Neither was he banned (if it was possible) or even publicly admonished. When I joined the Senate, I finally brought it up and again no one said anything. In my opinion, Lord Khaludh gave his reasons for joining and they were accepted. To accuse one of treachery after the fact is problematic.

Still, as Lord Khaludh knows, I am opposed to the continued existence of Falasan as an entity. I am not calling for the murder of their nobles but the ending of their realm. Their nobles are free to join whatever realms they wish. In this, Prime Minister Shanka Foonfa has a point that having a friendship with Falasan's queen may bring about a confict of interest. Was this friendship made known before and did it in any way influence our confrontations with Falasan? These are questions that may need to be answered.

For the record, I trust Lord Khaludh and believe him if he says that he did nothing to hurt the Empire but it might be best to explain things - for the record. All this seems to me to be a a case of misunderstanding through a lack of communication which causes mistrust and disbelief unless the differences are personal which would make this a personal and not public conflict. Personal is understandable.

Finally, we have voted Lord Shanka Foonfa as our Prime Minister. He leads our realm. What is this improper conduct that has been brought up? If there is a scandal there must be an investigation or else let our Prime Minister be exonerated.

Believe it or not, Osskelemightskel is the real name of a knight at the tournament

Furiously, Lord Celestial used his left hand to flip through his Dazzling Book of the Dead on one raised knee while resting his right hand on the pommel of his flaming sword that was now comically stuck in the large boulder that he was standing on. Among other things, the book contained names of mostly dead legends associated with legendary treasures.

"Ucdauh! Ucdauh! Release my sword!" cried Celestial as he happened yet upon another mysterious name in the book. Nothing happened. He flipped again.

It would not do to have Sir Talgar chance upon him now. Gods know his tongue was sharp enough. No, no, this would not do indeed. Already a crowd was beginning to gather.

"Anchorinn! Ippetimbal! Baqua! Cailyn! Batesaor! Niel! Qual! Joppo! Nocaneb! Ozrat! Aegis! Athios! Zolon! Forblane! Vashgew! Ejarr Puutl! All of you - release my damn sword!" Nothing happened.

"Ah, Osskelemightskel!" cursed Celestial as he threw down the book in disgust and promptly toppled backwards as the sword gave way and slipped out from the rock.

I had the honour to mentor Sir Laedoran in his early days

Fellow Cagilans,

I will explain this situation to everyone, as all will have heard of what has happened. I will admit my mistake, I traveld into MI lands against the orders, where it more out of chaos then intention. I would never willingly endanger the diplomatic relations between us and another realm. This, however, doesn't change the fact I went into MI lands and for this I will accept the fine put on me by Judge Milan, may he be blessed for his rightousness.

However, this violation caused a great response from MI sides. I will citate from the letter Marshal Raziel III Himoura send to all present in Lothruin.:

"Not surprising at all to discover that the Cagilan Empire is a bunch of lying, fork tongued bastards. Defensive actions only I believe, yet, I see Laedoran, whore son of Cagilan, here in Lothruin in CLEAR VIOLATION of their agreement. Why am I suddenly reminded of the damned realm of Norland? Shall I have to lay waste to more realms to ensure honor is upheld on Atamra? Is nothing sacred anymore? Honestly, you lot are pathetic, not even worthy of a noble death in battle. You should be herded into caves and sealed in, left to rot and starve. It would be more fitting."

In my opinion, this reaction, a clear verbal assault against the CE, is not permitted by my action. However wrong they were. I could take these insults as I made mistakes. After this however, he threw in an assault on my life himself. I was just lucky I have such fine men he stood by me and protected me with their lives. His assault failed and my men captured him.

I do not expect any reactions, I justed wanted to tell my story so none would think of me as a fool.

In honour,
Laedoran Orozar (Knight of Lamoni)

There are always circumstantial situations where the law may not apply or be set aside

Nobles of Cagilan,

I am of the opinion that nobles have the right to travel wherever they wish. To restrain that right would constitute a violation of of our noble birth. What most nobles may not know is that commoners can be banned for leaving their own realm. However, we are the nobility and to restrict our freedom is to disregard the very foundation of our noble society. Where such rules or orders conflict with our noble rights they are null and void. For instance a knight could ask to be removed from an army or a lord could remove himself/herself to avoid any conflict with orders that are against the noble code. We are noble and even in a dictatorship we cannot be conscripted into an army against our will.

Secondly and more importantly is the report that Sir Laedoran has given us. Sir Laedoran is indeed no fool and unless he has insulted nobles from Minas Ithil has, I believe, conducted himself most honourably. I would have preferred to give him the benefit of the doubt and to hear his side of the story before taking punitive actions as there are always circumstantial situations where the law may not apply or be set aside.

And then there is the most grievous insult heaped upon a son of Cagilan by an Ithilian noble bereft of civility and a noble tongue whose bravado and posturing reveals his childish thoughts and tendencies regardless of his perceived age. Are we to take this insult upon the honour of ALL Cagilans with meek submissions? Shall we humbly release the offensive Ithilian (should he now reside in our prison) with much apology and bootlicking? Shall we accomodate such vile acts of slander by bending over backwards in deference to their arrogance? Or shall we show them that we have a backbone and such vile acts of slanderous insults by not just a knight but a Marshal of their realm constitutes a provocation of war?!

Cagilans, stand with me and stand with our brother Laedoran, a true son of Cagilan and demand justice for all Cagilans everywhere and let all of Atamara know that we will not stand for this outrage for as sure as I am telling you this you can be sure that the Ithilians are now spreading the very details of their insult throughout the realms and I for one will not let our honour be besmirched!

Is that a lion that I see in our banner or a pussy?

Senators -

I ask that you recall when I asked the realm to mark my words concerning Falasan. When they sued for peace we bent over backwards to accomodate them. Now they ignore our treaty with impunity and we bend over backwards even more.

Is this how the Mighty Cagilan Empire reacts? Mighty is what we claim to be as recorded by our scribes and sung by the bards. Is that a lion that I see in our banner or a pussy? And when I say pussy I mean pussycat - kitty. We have voted that Falasan has indeed broken the treaty and by all accounts:

* Any breach, no matter how minor, will result in forfeiture of the entire negotiated agreement and a re-enactment of the war.

Yet we argue and give excuses on behalf of Falasan. I did not know Falasan has proxies in the senate to protect their interests. With respect to the senators, this must stop. A treaty is a treaty is a treaty. Let us not present to Falasan our 'misgivings' and 'concerns' over their 'unforeseen circumstances' where they descended like vultures into their newly acquired territory while their Queen gravely nods and at the same time jokes among her nobility of the gullibility of the Mighty Cagilan Empire.

They are taking us for fools. They remember the height of their power and strength and glory. For us to leave them with 4 regions was an insult and one that they will not take lying down. But they no longer have the strength nor the power nor the glory. What they have are their wits and they will do all they can to push the limits of their artificial boundaries. And each time they do we bend over backwards to accomodate them.

We feared how other realms would look upon us if we had destroyed Falasan. If we had done so, we would have had all the rights. We have the power and the more power we have the more we fear of losing it that our minds spin in a hundred different directions until we are confused and don't know what to do. I lay before you now another fear of how the realms would view us now if they knew how Falasan toys with us - as pussies who can only mew complainingly in dealing with Falasan.

Friends are the flowers in the garden of life

Members of the Imperial Senate,

Calis is the biggest and richest region in the Empire. It would be a prize for the elected noble - a prize to be shared with all of Cagilan. Though I oversee an ordinary region and not a city, I am honoured to command an 80-men strong archer unit with a combat rating of over 1000CS led by a Captain rated at +12. Such strength is necessary as I guard the boundaries of the Empire far from the capital where recruitment is available. Alaise too needs only a minimum of one knight to run but I have oaths from 3 knights - not because of greed - in fact they lower my share of the taxes but because it is my way. I cannot turn away a knight who has a family history in the region or to one who needs a home and is not accepted by others. I know all too well how it feels when no one speaks up in your defence and I know too the gratitude that swells from the heart towards those who do.

In my time in Cagilan, I have known many fine nobles and some of them have vanished. Indeed, Cagilan is the finest realm I have ever known even through my darkest days. My proudest moment was being elected SiC of the Guardians of Ered Luin. My worst was also in being removed and ostracised. While I could have taken the way of Sir Drago who left the realm only to return to hurt it in his own petty way, I did not and kept my silence.

Even almost immediately after my admittance finally into the Senate after an impossibly long time it was thought that I had willfully razed a guildhouse. Reading through the letters that I finally received afterwards - the Prime Minister started the ball rolling and then the Judge got in on the act, with a tribunal to boot and even a commission, all different names but with the objective of booting me out as fast as I was appointed in. When the Banker spoke up I thought all that was left was the General and by that time it would be a court-martial! So much has happened with my arrival into service of the Empire but with the help of faithful friends, mentors, seniors and liege who spoke up in my times of need it helped to ease the pain and with patience led me to where I am today. As such, you have often heard me speak up in defence of others and the more I truly believe they deserve it the louder my words will be.

I graciously stand before you as an example of a knight who has given all to the Empire and never lost faith in it even when the Empire lost faith in me and I believe never has a knight suffered as much as I have.

I have ran for the city of Nida and I formally announce my running for Calis. As I was tied in second place for Nida I respectfully request for your votes once again. Undoubtedly, as all candidates will do when elected, Calis will be in good hands and all resources used for the fullest benefit of the Empire. I will add that with all that I have gone through the knights of Calis will have an understanding and supportive liege who knows that with perseverance, patience, determination and loyal friends it is not impossible to prove to yourself and others of what you are capable of.

These are exciting times for the Empire and also for the House of Fury. We have recently discovered an innate talent for blazoning - crests and coat of arms. We are currently in the process of creating a crest for the Fyrd of Ered Luin and it has undergone several drafts at the keen eyes and suggestion of the FOEL and is awaiting final approval.

I wish to bring Calis and the Empire as a whole to greater heights and while military might and intellectual discourse will always be a hallmark of the Empire, I believe Calis as the largest city in the realm is home as well to artisans and I look forward to combining the interests of the House of Fury with the resources of Calis to make the Empire recognised for its artistry as well. Art - is food for the soul and the imagination.

Once the blazon of the FOEL is complete I invite all members of the Senate as well as the various armies to request for a blazon should they have one or to renew their existing ones. Should this work out and if the work is appreciated I look forward to extending this service to the whole Empire.

  • Ars longa, vita brevis - Life is brief but Art endures
  • Amicci flores in horto vitae sunt - Friends are the flowers in the garden of life

I thank you all.

Message sent to all elder members of "Imperial Movement"

Firmness in resolution, steadfastness in resolve, and determination in our will.

Elders of the Imperial Movement,

I am troubled that this Duke Raoul considers a kingship to be something of 'fun'. Perhaps it is best that he forgoes such authority.

What are the regions going to the new colony?

I cannot recall the events that led to the cessation of military action against Minas Ithil but from a military as well as diplomatic point of view, military action should NOT have been halted without a cease-fire being ACTUALLY SIGNED. As such, it has led to this farce and in my opinion a mockery of the whole negotiations.

Firmness in resolution, steadfastness in resolve, and determination in our will. These are the words which should have been applied in our campaign for a speedy conclusion.

I feel that the point of view towards this issue has shifted greatly and undermines negotiations. As the victorious alliance I have no problems with being magnanimous in victory but it has been months and are we sure that we are not being played the fool? Surely we are not making excuses 'on behalf of Eston and Minas Ithil' when they can very well make excuses for themselves? Let them make the excuses and let us take the actions.

If Crahandan is to be part of the new colony and only flies the Estonite flag temporarily PURELY BY CHOICE OF THE COMMONERS then Eston should not have any troops in it NOR GIVE ROYAL ASSENT TO THE REGION and should let it revolt on its own and we should be marching our armies through it and have them camp just within Ithilian borders at Winham or Nemaha. Inform the Estonites and the Ithilians that the armies are ONLY there to see to the signing of the cease-fire -

- as is our right as victors.

One more thing, as we are creating a colony for this Duke Regulus should he not be a member of the Imperial Movement and in on the discussions as an Elder? As we are discussing it here then I take it that the Imperial Movement has interest in the new colony and the first thing that it should have - is representation.

Aargh! Aargh?!

"My Lord! My Lord!" shouted Rene as he burst through the sleeping chambers.

"Aargh!" screamed Celestial as he reached for his Black Longsword of Flame held in place above the headboard.

"I mean, My Duke", replied Rene slowing down as he adjusted to protocol eyes wide in focus at the tip of the pointed sword.

"Aargh?!" yelled Celestial ignoring protocol in return.

"The Senate has spoken! My Duke, you are to assume the duchalship of Nida with immediate effect!"

There was a moment of silence and then -

"My armour, Rene! I must get dressed! I was not expecting this!"

"But my Lord, My Duke - the Battered Vest of the Kings, in it's battered condition..?"

"The hat then, Rene! We don't have time!"

"The Hat of Blood ?" asked Rene hesitatingly.

A token of new beginnings

Lord Famine,

This is the first time I am writing to you since you told me to go back to farming so long ago.

I feel it is time that we had warmer relations and I do not want to dwell on the past but would rather look forward to the future.

In light of this, I wish to offer you as a token of new beginnings, a part of my family treasure, something which was discovered this very day - the Obsidian Dagger of Blood.

It shall be yours to use for as long as you wish and I only ask that you take good care of it and keep it maintained and never letting it rust permanently and that if for some reason you no longer wish to use it - to return it once again to the House of Fury.

I humbly hope that you will accept and await my arrival in Nida.

Closure of an old chapter.

Duke Celestial,

Long ago, as a new noble to this realm, you caused lots of waves with your close ties to the peasantry. There were many very concerned about that, and I was definitely vocal about it. However, since that time, you've shown your nobility time and time again.

I've seen a growth in you that is quite remarkable, and for that reason, I was not inclined to bring up your past ties in this election. I don't believe that the controversy you caused as a young noble has any bearing on who you are now. Your service and dedication to this realm can't be exceeded by many, if any.

I will admit that I am a bit disappointed with the results of this voting - not that I lost, but because almost a third of the votes weren't cast. I was hoping to see some sort of realm-wide decision, when instead I saw realm-wide apathy. To lose by virtue of a single lord not voting, when there must have been a half dozen such lords, is disheartening. I can only imagine that winning by as much isn't overly thrilling either.

That said, I am glad to see you in a position of power - we clearly need more active Lords in this realm - the voting indicates this without a doubt. I'd love to see some of our dead wood trimmed - I think our realm is hurt quite a bit by them. If I was to lose to anyone, I am glad it is to someone active, vocal, and who has a tradition of outstanding service to this ream. To lose Nida's votes and voice to more of the apathy seen in this election would have been a travesty.

I greatly appreciate your offer of warmer relations. I don't know that we've exchanged words for a long time, and I worry that such a rift further weakens our realm. However, as generous an offer as that dagger is, I don't know that it's an item that fits me well. I've turned more to tomes than blades lately, and an item which screams its history of blood holds even less interest to me.

Still, your offer of warmer relations is greatly appreciated. I'm glad my harsh words from long ago didn't quell your spirit and determination - this realm has benefited hugely from your work since then. I'll remain in Nida until your return doing police work - control has slipped again. The city needs its Duke, for sure.

Congratulations once again, and I look forward to working with you in the future.

Diplomacy must be couched in the most exact terms, leaving nothing to chance or interpretation.

Prime Minister Famine,

Thank you for clearing that matter. However, I see many things wrong with this agreement that is being called a 'treaty'.

Firstly, with the establishment of formal diplomatic procedures regarding treaties (ooc: implementation of enhanced diplomacy[?]), any party not adhering to said protocol is either crafty enough to have a 'backdoor' reason to ignore any agreements should the situation warrant or plain negligent and to their loss.

Secondly, any party mentioned in any agreement must also be a signatory. One cannot make an agreement on behalf of a sovereign realm. As our Prime Minister has confirmed that we are not a signatory to this agreement then by the laws of common sense we are most certainly not bound to it. And if this was intentional then I salute the foresight of our leadership.

Thirdly, not all the realms that are supposedly to be bound by said agreement is mentioned. Therefore there will be a problem with the clause concerning "[T]he noble Herunumen is to be banned from the Barony of Makar and not accepted into the realms of any of the parties to this treaty" though I doubt Eston would realize this. Sending a letter to a realm does not bind it. Nor does signing individual letters and passing it all around. Each parchment must have all the required signatures.

As is the clause concerning "Nobles leading troops shall not enter the lands of the realms which they were at war with unless they have received permission by that realm" - the realms are not stated in detail and a few months from now hardly anyone will remember who was officially at war with whom. A lack of a formal date at the 'signing' of this 'agreement' will cause difficulties with establishing the length of time for which it is to take place. It doesn't matter if it is for 6 months if no one knows when it was 'signed'. Normal correspondence aren't usually kept longer than a month which is one reason why formal diplomatic procedures for treaties were established.

Thus, this seems to be a fortuitous turn of events. Whether it is to our advantage or not will be for our Ambassadors to ultimately decide but it seems clear, a gentleman's agreement notwithstanding, that a treaty not signed - is no treaty at all.

When it comes to treaties, it is a legal binding document that seals it, not a shake of the hand to honour-bound it. Diplomacy must be couched in the most exact terms, leaving nothing to chance or interpretation.

I am God's lion, hear me roar.

Nobles of the Empire,

With the disappearance of Lord Xyst, I, as co-founder of the Fury Craft and Trade Co. find myself now solely in charge of the guild. I certainly hope that Lord Xyst will someday return as the guild was his idea and partly in homage to my family whose ancestral home still lies within the domain of Vornion as one of my family business is the art of crafting coat-of-arms.

Thus, in appreciation of all that the Empire has done for me and my family I would like to officially present an enhanced version, if you will, of the Empire's coat-of-arms.

It has been viewed by the council and the senate and I now submit it to the realm-at-large for your approval. A referendum will follow in a day or two to gather support for its usage as our official coat-of-arms.

Cagilan's coat-of-arms

The basic design has been retained after an informal survey shows strong sentimental attachment to it but through a new technique in art it has been made to 'stand out' (3D) and a gloss painted over it using brightness and contrast.

Two crowned lion supporters hold the shield up in keeping with the lion theme prevalent of the Empire and the crowns represent our long history as Kingmakers of colonies and realms both directly and indirectly.

The blackness and whiteness of the supporting lions show resoluteness in our actions, judgements and decisions - there is no grey area - and they are contrasted by the regal golden yellow colours of our motto and our Empire's full name.

The motto: audi me rugientem means "Hear me roar" and is part of the larger phrase of "Ego leo dei (sum), audi me rugientem" which means "I am God's lion, hear me roar".

It is the nature of all living things to progress and a realm is also a living thing. Bureaucratic procedures have evolved and have led to usage of both a short as well as a full realm name. For continuity I have used "The Mighty Cagilan Empire" as our full name as used in our official realm information.

While I have sometimes used some terms interchangeably, a coat-of-arms is a full heraldic achievement which consists of a shield and certain accessories and is a symbol unique to a person, family or realm. Currently, we only have a shield and it is in my opinion, incomplete. As the premier realm on Atamara I believe we should be leading the way and setting the trend for others to follow.

Dear Snake Lackey.

While going through his letters Duke Celestial noticed a complaint about a foreign judge being insulted. His eyes widened as he read on...

Dear Snake Lackey,

I am unhappy with my incarceration and I require you allow me to leave. Please provide me with the following immediately.

  • A good horse (not some old nag. One of your personal steeds would be enough)
  • Food (I am partial to fresh salmon, avacado and a good bottle of white wine. Perhaps a Pinot Gris from the royal stores).
  • Money. I feel I have been put to a deal of trouble and compensation of 500 gold will suffice.

I understand that this may take you some time to gather. I have requested a better room from your pathetic excuse for a queen and expect her to to arrange this soon. Therefore please have your best prostitutes sent to my new room and I will expect the remainder of my requirements to be waiting for me in four hours. Run along lackey.

...then... he laughed as he had never laughed before!

"That's the spirit, man!" he shouted to no one in particular in the quiet of his chambers deep in the heart of the fortress of Nida where no one could hear him because no one could as no one was there - to hear his shout.

"Wish I was in a position to insult that Judge", Celestial grumbled then chuckled as he recalled a small part of the choicest insult he had heard in a long time.

"Snake lackey! SNAKE lackey! SNAKE LACKEY!!!" Then laughed out loud again!

Here you go, here are the keys. Right.

Oh great Guild Manager,

I have travelled far and wide, sent our infiltrators far south in the hopes of finding this most reclusive den whose very existence has reached the ears of the Empire and yet it remained a distant rumour for no one seemed to know about it so much so that we began to suspect it was a secret society.

Oh, yes indeed I have come to hand over the keys - the KEYS! to the very gates of Nida and to its bottomless treasury from which we have funded the most elite of soldiers ever to march across the plains of Atamara to wipe the scourge and the backstabbing sorcerous serpents now entwined around the necks of the southern-most realms of the island.

I have come to learn the secret trade of buying and selling cities from the masters of the trade who have reaped such honour and acclaim that its deed now echoes through the halls of the dead itself!

OH YEA, INDEED YOU HAVE BUT TO SAY - JUST SAY THE VERY WORD AND IT SHALL BE...! oh wait. wrong guild.

"Viscount, as per your failure to join the Empire after many days of stating that you would do so, by the Order of the Empire, as the Marshal of the Fyrd of Ered Luin, I am empowered to burn your region to the ground. Let it be known that the Empire suffers no fools..."

Cough.

"Yes, scribe?"

"I beg your pardon, my Duke. But the Carelian Viscount joined the Empire an hour ago along with a certain Sir Jovyl."

"And I suppose we are to just abort our pillagin' and maraudin'?" glared the Duke as the scribe shuffled his feet uneasily. "He only joined because we showed up on his doorstep and..." Celestial stopped and stared.

Celestial Men-at-Arms

With PRECISE detail and attention the Celestial Men-at-Arms Special Forces laid a trap for the lone monster in Vornion. They had Dug In during the night and methodically dug a spike pit covered with the usual leaves and twigs. In addition, as befitted their Special Status as Special Forces, they cunningly sprayed wild boar blood over the trap. Celestial had to admire his men's ingenuity. They were worth every gold coin he spent on them.

Then they waited for the battle at dawn. The moment the first rays of sunlight shone through the darkness the unnatural beast slumbered from its sleep and growled with hunger. It had caught the scent of fresh wild boar and started towards the Celestial Men-at-Arms.

"Steady men, steady. Hold your ground. Wait for the signal...", instructed Captain Guido (+5). "Keep very still and very silent. We don't want to..."

"AAAARGGGHH!!! CHARGE!!! GO! GO! GO!" yelled a voice from behind. As the Special Forces turned their heads in military precision to look at them, 63 Infantry of the Salvation Guard IV ran past them with whoops and curdling blood cries, some even jumping up and down as they dashed towards the lone monster. The Celestial Men-at-Arms Special Forces could only look on in astonishment as the Salvation Guard IV lobbed off limbs from the lone dazzled monster...

All hail?

There is no such thing as an Empire of many realms in our world. That would be a Federation. That is the reality that defines our world. What his Imperial Majesty is describing is... eh? - I thought Coria was a Republic. What is the legality of this Monarchy? But no, it seems Coria is still a Republic. Of course if Corians want to carry a throne into their Senate Hall it is up to them. Stranger things have happened. Of course, the bar has just been raised for the Atamaran ruler with the longest title.

What I've gathered so far is:

we've been opposing attempts to deny sovereignty to realms on Atamara (well, that's what happens when you lose a war)

we haven't been conducting our wars honourably (excuse us for simply trying to survive - go tell the Northeners who rape and pillage?)

to unite the continent behind the prevention of any realm seeking to impose hegemony over the realms of Atamara (name the realm)

And this is only the first paragraph.

From the Charter:

Imperial Senate (hmm, we already have this in the Empire - the Cagilan Empire)

Sanctioned Border Skirmishes (ah, so that's what this Empire is about - war games? Should have just come right out and said it! - except we're kind of busy with a war right now and implementing the end of one)

So, how do we join this club? Guild? Secret society? Wait...

Irrevocability Clause membership within the Phoenix Empire is final and absolute. Attempts for member realms or duchies to leave the Phoenix Empire will be viewed as an attack upon the empire as a whole.

Ah, it's... I've run out of words for this one. All hail?

This so-called Empire has only one design:

There is no way I can accept this new club house. It is wrong in so many ways. I should not worry about his words. His twistings will be countered every step of the way. The honourable realm still lies with the Cagilan Empire. It is what has kept us strong and united all this while. It will not fall while the honourable still lead the Empire.

We do not wage wars flippantly as if it were for fun like a game of chess. Border skirmishes? Sanctioned wars? Are wars to lose its meaning and purpose? The last time some realms foolishly tried this (Carelia vs Suville and Caergoth in a "friendly" border skirmish) they ended up at each others throats for real.

We don't need demagogues in leadership. We need real leadership with real decisions that effect an entire realm. Not a pseudo-machination to create an artificial way of life in a foolish gamble with blood and resources just for the fun of the aristocracy.

No. Wars are fought with very real purposes. Not something to be manipulated with a god-like consideration. This so-called Empire has only one design: to elevate a single man into the annals of history and power. And he raises himself by stepping on our name in mud.

Prime Minister.

My thanks for your votes of confidence and letters of support both public and private. My unit having the most men also took the most hits but I've recovered in time to receive the election results and with good timing am well enough to write.

As of this moment I am hiding near the seashore and hopefully these Darkans will not think of looking for me there. I can find no traces of Empire soldiers around and it seems I will have to sneak my way out. I'm beginning think that we should always have a contingency plan to provide support for those who will eventually make their way out of hostile territory after recovering from their wounds.

I shall be following the shoreline into Slantrax with Captain Dietrich (+8) and my best archer sniper. Both of them have stood by me while I was delirious and I shall rely on them to see me safely back into friendly territory. We might each have a chance if the unit was disbanded but enemy patrols can pick us up and there would be no recourse. I trust that these Darkans will not go murderous at my destination. One thing's for sure - we will not go hungry. Provisions are at 100% and they were rated for over 100 men but now we are three.

In other matters, the Federation with Strombran shall be signed as soon as possible - it has not yet been formally proposed but a messenger from Strombran has already reached me. As per Empire customs to spread out the responsibilities and power, I shall also be stepping down from the Dukeship of Nida. I will need some time to get back to Nida to see that everything is in order for the new Duke/Duchess.

Unwanted regards.

Prime Minister Celestial,

I am quite glad I didn’t congratulate you right after your appointment. I’m reasonably sure I would have expressed my trust in you and your administration. If I had done that, I would have had to take those words back now and I’ll admit I hate doing that.

It seems to me that you have some of your priorities for the Empire rather backwards and not only that, but you have shown disrespect and disregard for the opinions and uncertainties of several members of the realm. Instead of trying to lay their uncertainties to rest, you made it seem like your word is law and they should just shut up and take it, not only that but also apologize for having an opinion in the first place. I am not putting words your in your mouth, it was you who said: “no one said anything before so you can't suddenly say it's now not all right” and “no one said anything earlier and it's now done.”

Is that how you mean to treat us from now on? When exactly would have been the right moment to address the problem of the name change (call it whatever you like but it’s still a change somewhere) when you’ve never mentioned it before the actual change? You did mention the crest and shield, but never the name before you actually changed it. So please, enlighten me, when could I have said that us calling ourselves the Mighty Cagilan Empire in almost any situation is presumptuous and reckless? That it might lead us to believe we are mighty no matter what we do when it truth we are mighty because of what we do and how we do it? It is others who should call us mighty, not ourselves!

Perhaps now you understand that I am a bit confused about your words and quite uneasy about your view of when something can or cannot be discussed. You are trying to make us feel as if we should agree to the name change because presumably we’ve already agreed to it before and the time for disagreements on that score has passed. But the fact that another administration from decades ago decided on it is a valid concern, which you are blatantly disregarding. You are not ruling then, you are ruling now, with the senate as it is composed now. Don’t tell me it matters more what the senate then has chosen, than what the senate now could choose.

Not only that, but you’ve made it seem as if everybody agreed with the name change then. I have trouble believing we’ve ever had a referendum with a unanimous result, in which everybody voted. You’ve ridiculed exaggerations of others, but you are exaggerating as well.

There’s also the fact that you seem to be the only one remembering the referendum also being about the name. I understand that this was an issue close to your heart, the heraldry change, so you are more inclined to remember it. But now you’ve just given the impression that this was your primary goal in becoming Ruler, to make the change and make sure it stays changed no matter what we others might think or feel. I do believe it matters more what we think now than what some of us thought some administrations ago.

My advice, whether you care for it or not, would be to stop trying to validate your actions and cut down any opinions on the name or shield not matching your own, and accept that you could’ve handled the situation better. You could’ve mentioned the name change before it occurred. Or, once you noticed the general disagreement with the name, you could’ve made a new referendum about the name and see if the administration now would like to keep it or not, instead us making us feel we have to keep it and like it.

Also, I cannot believe how long it has taken you to settle some other issues regarding your new position, like the fact that you are still the Duke of Nida. Was the heraldry change so much more important than settling matters in Nida? I understand that you’ve wanted to make sure you left everything in order for the next duke or duchess, but I don’t understand why you weren’t quicker to do it when you’ve been so quick to other changes, I don’t understand why you couldn’t settle most things while you were in the run for the position of Prime Minister and most of all I don’t understand how you can’t see that wanting to make it easier for whoever comes next is about the same thing as not believing they can do the job as well as you could.

My possibly unwanted regards,

Viscountess of Nardil
Sheeana Aeterdust

NOT a name change.

Lady Aeterdust,

Look at the date of the first heraldry: 11 December 2010. That's three years ago. Does it say Cagilan Empire or the Mighty Cagilan Empire? By your reasoning 'Mighty' should not be in the name since it will in your own words "lead us to believe we are mighty no matter what we do". I've been here 5 years. Others have been here even longer. The name has been under Realm and Regions for ages.

It sounds like a name rather than a description. When I proposed to have it incorporated into a proper crest rather than just a shield, there was no one who said that it should just say Cagilan Empire and not The Mighty Cagilan Empire. The crest IS official. And it has been in existence for three years. There was no one who said that 'Mighty' should not be in the name because it will make us sound arrogant. With the name already incorporated into the crest, the next logical step would be the paperwork. I saw no need to get feedback from something already agreed to and already implemented. And because the past three administrations could not implement the new heraldry I saw no need to remind them of the name, as they go together.

No one said anything before so you can't suddenly say it's now not all right”. This is my point. Where is the fairness? It was something already chosen and agreed upon. Only the implementation was lacking. What is the difference with it being on the crest and on some paperwork? Should I have pointed the name out to you on the crest? Was it only when it came out on the paperwork that you actually saw the name for the very first time? “No one said anything earlier and it's now done” simply means you didn't say no or what or why or hold on - so I did it.

As for not mentioning the name change, it's because it's NOT a name change. Perhaps you are not aware of such an option. It falls under the Prime Minister's office and only in the capital. I also manage the message groups. Should I have sought a referendum for the new message groups too? It's the name that was on our crest and now inscribed on our paperwork. The name actually comes with the crest. I implemented that which was already there. So, tell me again, what I changed. I didn't mention the new map icon either. Want to disagree with it? Or after reading this, you are just only getting over your shock that there is really a new map icon?

"You are not ruling then, you are ruling now, with the senate as it is composed now. Don’t tell me it matters more what the senate then has chosen, than what the senate now could choose." I am not ruling at all. The Prime Minister is the Prime Administrator. And what has been chosen before has to be first implemented before anything new is chosen. That is chronological order. Or are you showing "disrespect and disregard for the opinions [and decisions]" of those who came before you? Is this how you mean to treat past decisions that did not have your input? I have implemented what has been lost in the paperwork. If you want to change it, then lead the Senate into doing so. Have your referendum.

As for the duchy of Nida, mind if I actually reach there first? There are some options that only appear when you are in the region. There are also guilds and safe houses that I need to see to first while I still have control. There may be other things I haven't considered until I'm actually in the city. I had to make a stop in the capital and we took the long route back from Darka. Considering it'll be the last time I'll have control over it, do you badly mind if I do it right and set everything in order for the new Duke/Duchess? Is there a specific reason you want me to hurry up? Maybe you want to start a referendum for this too?

As for how I've answered perhaps you would have a problem too if people made public disagreements before even getting clarification or getting called The one and only ultimatum Prime Minister. Everyone has seen how I've answered before. There were at least 2 queries before this issue. No one had any fault with how I answered then or my answers itself. I sought no apology nor expected any nor any congratulations. This is a job and I'm single-minded in it.

Watch me own up to it, you might learn something new.

Prime Minister Fury,

It’s seems pretty clear to me you’ve only read my letter with the intent to find fault with it and not with the possibility you might have been in the wrong in mind or that I might have raised some valid points. It spells great things for our future when our Prime Minister only cares for the opinions of those that agree with him.

I meant no disrespect for the decisions of those before me, only to say that I put more stock in decisions made by the current Senate than the Senate for some administrations ago. Decisions that made sense decades ago, might not make sense now, as it happens with many political decisions. Don’t worry, I know this decision was hardly political, but the point stands: what administrations from years or decades ago chose is not necessarily law for us now. We, the Senate, can decide differently. I’m not advocating for always disregarding the decision of previous administrations, really I’m not, as I’m a pretty conservative person, but you cannot mean to say that decisions of previous administrations come before those of the current one when it is quite the other way around. That is why your argument that it was already decided some time ago and we shouldn’t challenge it now is worries me greatly.

What if one of us suddenly “remembers” that once it was decided we have to do something differently: maybe that we should loot all enemies or that we shouldn’t under any circumstances question the orders we are given and follow them blindly. Are we to change to that directly, no questions asked? Simply because it was decided some unspecified period ago? Of course this is a ridiculous exaggeration made to illustrate a point - watch me owning up to it, you might learn something new.

And I am not put out because the previous decision didn’t have my input. I was in the Senate then as well. I voted. And since I called myself conservative I’ll let you guess my vote. Don’t try to paint me holding a grudge, the majority choose and that was that then.

This is now. I am put out that you seem to be forgetting that there are new members of the Senate that were not present then and you seem to believe that they really have no say in the matter because a previous Senate already voted on it. The change, or call it what you like, didn’t happen then. I’m sorry for you since the fact that the heraldry was not renewed seems to have affected you greatly. But it happened now. And now is different from then. (I’m also quite put out that I have to make use of such platitudes to illustrate a point that seems so obvious to me, but that’s mostly my problem).

What you failed to understand is that it wasn’t so much about the name. I don’t agree with it, but I am not so hard-headed that I can’t live with it, just don’t expect me to like it. It was mostly about the way you made the changes and treated us.

As for Nida, yes, I did expect you to hurry up. As I’ve stated before, you seemed so quick to do changes you were keen on, but quite slow on the ones you didn’t like so much, so slow that they haven’t happened yet. I do believe it is exactly for this purpose that the highest ranking officials in the Empire should not hold regional seats: the responsibilities that take away time from their most important function, responsibilities that could just as well be filled by somebody else, for we have many gifted and hard-working nobles in the realm. And again, I don’t understand how you “haven’t considered” what you have to do for Nida when you considered running for Prime Minister. You did claim in one of your messages prior to the election that you’ve done all you could for Nida, but suddenly there’s something more you have to do. Sure, maybe you meant that in the greater sense and this is about the details, but you still should’ve considered the details before and not wait to see if there are “other things you haven't considered until you’re actually in the city”.

So you mean not to rule, but to serve the realm? That is great. I’m impatiently waiting for the point where your actions come to match your words.

My regards,

Viscountess of Nardil
Sheeana Aeterdust

I was fighting in the frontline at the time. Where were you? Maybe get out of the capital once in a while?

Lady Aeterdust,

Likewise, "it seems pretty clear to me you’ve only read my replies with the intent to find fault with it and not with the possibility you might have been in the wrong in mind or that I might have raised some valid points."

"I meant no disrespect for the decisions of those before me, only to say that I put more stock in decisions made by the current Senate than the Senate for some administrations ago." There are no current decisions on the issues you are bringing up by this Senate. But let us hash these issues till clarity sees the light of day.

"Decisions of previous administrations come before those of the current one when it is quite the other way around. That is why your argument that it was already decided some time ago and we shouldn’t challenge it now is worries me greatly." Once again, there are no current decisions. There is a current voice so have your referendum if you will so where have I said it cannot be challenged?

Referendums are open-ended. It can be for anything. I believe you can even start a referendum to put it into law that decisions made in the past are no longer valid once a new administration comes into effect. This will then nullify all the treaties we've made and the wars we've ended. Yours is a dangerous notion, "a ridiculous exaggeration made to illustrate a point - watching [you own] up to it, [we all] might learn something new."

"I was in the Senate then as well. I voted. And since I called myself conservative I’ll let you guess my vote." Sweet, you made a vote. You were there then and now apparently say you voted against "Mighty"? I do not remember the number of yeas or nays but I do remember no one spoke against it then, not even you. But apparently now, you feel you have to. So, once again - what is the difference with it being on the crest and on some paperwork?

"What you failed to understand is that it wasn’t so much about the name. I don’t agree with it, but I am not so hard-headed that I can’t live with it, just don’t expect me to like it. It was mostly about the way you made the changes and treated us." Administrative implementations that were long delayed - yes, excuse me for hurrying to implement it and not reminding you about it - and wasn't it you that said I needed to hurry things? Or is it only certain things I need to hurry if you have an interest and less of others where you have less interest? And I have already explained the reason for my frame of mind.

"As for Nida, yes, I did expect you to hurry up. As I’ve stated before, you seemed so quick to do changes you were keen on, but quite slow on the ones you didn’t like so much, so slow that they haven’t happened yet." I returned to the Empire with only 2 men and we were evading all the way. I even purposely gave wrong information on the route I was heading in case there were spies in the Empire who would leak it.

I actually went to Loratil and there was a battle in Slantrax too which I would have been caught in. There was no battle in Slantrax the previous half day. Coincidence? As such, priority is to recruit a new unit as the success of assassination attempts depend on the quality and number of troops you are carrying. Also, as I informed the Senate:

By the way, I have signed the Treaty of Hawthorne but Eston has yet to. If they do not do it after a few reminders, we need to decide what to do if anything.

Eston has claimed that they have not received the Treaty as such it is imperative that I find out if they are lying or not and to be sure I would need to be in the capital to see if there were any options or not even though I've asked the Diplomatic Corps to look into it. In short, there was more administrative work for the Prime Minister's office rather than the Nidan duchal office that needed looking into and as it is exactly 4 regions from Avrende to either Cagil or Nida, excuse me for taking a right turn instead of a left.

"You did claim in one of your messages prior to the election that you’ve done all you could for Nida, but suddenly there’s something more you have to do." I don't need time to clear things out? Travelling doesn't take time? Can I at least have one last look around to make sure I don't miss any options that show up when I'm actually there? I need to drop it right away? Do you not understand the meaning of options that show up only when you're in the region? It means the aides will only present you with it when you're personally there and no, I did not memorize everything there is to know. Maybe it's because I'm preoccupied with taking time to write certain letters?

I was fighting in the frontline at the time. Where were you? I see you are in Cagil and you have not said a word since the Administrative Corps was formed. Perhaps more action in there and less in here? These are the regions that need seeing to: Nazia, Garnagi, Nida, Vornion, Alatol. You have been rather laconic for the past one month (records only go up to a month) but I wouldn't be surprised at all if this reservation extended even longer. You have only just spoken up a day ago and are surprised about many things.

Here are some rumours originating from you. The grapevine says that you are claiming that I'm not a ruler and that the map icons... do not exist. I can't really define what the rumours mean but my exact words were: "I am not ruling". By definition, all who lead a realm are called rulers but it's not a term I'm fond of as we are a Republic and the Prime Minister is the Prime Administrator. I will not fall into your trap of claiming I am ruling and give you more ordnance to use. As for the map icons, they very well exist on our maps. How do you think we've been travelling and planning our wars all this while? It does sound like you are admitting that you have only just seen the map icons. Maybe get out of the capital once in a while? "I’m impatiently waiting for the point where your actions come to match your words."

Letter from Sheeana Aeterdust
Message sent to everyone in "The Imperial Senate"

An armchair win for the House of Aeterdust - all from sitting in the capital.

Prime Minister Fury,

In regards to the first sentence of your previous letter which is also the first sentence of my previous letter, which can be slightly confusing, I have to disagree. Which is even more confusing because the entire thing is about us disagreeing with each other. And now I disagree with your using the sentence to describe my words, because in fact I did agree with you on some points. Most significantly with your expressing your intention not to “rule”, but to “administer”, my agreement with that was in no way sarcastic. It was the implementation of that intention I had and still have problems with.

Now I am about to agree with you again. I understand there are many responsibilities and worries for a Prime Minister, especially a newly elected one, and I agree that those responsibilities have to come before those regarding any singular region of the empire. That is precisely why a Prime Minister shouldn’t hold a regional seat and should leave those duties to others. I am glad to see this situation turning the way it should.

As for “my” dangerous notion of putting it into law that decisions made in the past are no longer valid once a new administration comes along, I have to say you are the only one who has proposed this in our conversation so far. You seem to have quoted my letter quite arbitrarily and left out the part where I called myself conservative and specifically said I do not support the idea of always disregarding the decisions made by previous administrations. My point was that such decisions should not be incontestable by newer administrations, a point which you seem to agree with now although originally you were saying “it’s done now”. But since you seem to understand my point now, I’ll stop repeating myself for your sake.

Since you are asking, the difference with the name now on some paperwork, as you call it, is that it makes it more visible. I am of the opinion that we should say it less not more and let our enemies say it as much as they like. I think my opinion means next to nothing to you, the whys of that escape me. Is it because it’s contrary to yours? Is it because I am not one to generally offer opinions in the Senate? Do the opinions of less outspoken members of the Senate matter less, when expressed? Or is it because you think I am not a contributing member of this Senate or, more importantly, this realm? I might be in Cagil now and I might not have said anything in the Administrative Corps so far, but to imply I've not been doing my duty to the Empire is very insulting. You'll notice that I only questioned your handling of certain issues and not your overall dedication to the Empire, neither of us deserves that and I'll thank you not to imply that again.

I feel the need to point out again that my problem was less about what you did regarding the heraldry and name changes, but more about how you did it and how you responded to the worries of the members of the Senate afterwards. I said you needed to hurry things? I must be getting old, because I only remember urging you to hurry certain things and expressing uneasiness with the some of the things you chose to hurry about and some of the things you choose not to. I do not think rebuff and expediency were the most appropriate methods to handle the Senate in this matter.

I quite concur with hashing these issues until clarity surfaces, but in order to do that and properly answer your questions I will need clarifications on a few points:

1. What exactly do you think is my interest in hurrying you to relinquish the seat of Nida?

2. Why are you blaming me for your choosing to write certain letters, even if they are in response to mine? I’m reasonably sure I cannot make you do anything you don’t want to do. So feel free not to answer if you deem it not important enough, I can’t stop you.

3. What exactly do you think I was surprised about in my previous letters? I would call my most prominent emotions distrust and irritation.

4. Where exactly is the quote on my opinion of these “map icons”? You’ve been quoting so well up to that point… But the fact is I expressed no opinion one way or another on them.

5. What exactly have I claimed to do but not done, that would warrant you throwing those last words at me? If you want to ask me the same question I can answer fully, can you?

And one more thing: that part about watching me own up to exaggerating and hoping you learn something from it? I meant you specifically, Prime Minister, not the entire Senate. So far in your discourse, I have not seen many improvements on that score.

Eh, who's this now?

I must admit I'm starting to think the moniker "mighty" is nothing but hot air the prime minister of Cagilan Empire tries to blow up everyone's skirts in order to make us fear them. What do we have here now, four other realms helping the "mighty" empire, yet you're struggling to even beat a single realm?

If this is how weak the "mighty" empire truly is and I was their ally, I'd start thinking is it really worth it to march up north to get slaughtered in their name.

Who dresses these people?

I must admit the rumours of skirt-wearing Darkan soldiers was nothing but hot air but now we have a Darkan actually admitting to it. I was wondering what the flashes of white in the battle was but thankfully I averted my eyes.

If this is how attired volcano worshippers truly are and if I was their tailor I'd start thinking if it was really worth it to rile up people with pointed objects with Dead Darkan Dillys written on it.

An entertaining PM.

Prime Minister Celestial,

You continue to be as entertaining as ever, though I must say your previous message lacked the same flair as your declaration that losing a duchy to a secession is not really losing it. I bet Eston would have loved to hear that news. They got out of the war without losing anything, after all.

Looks like it's take away then.

Dame Nadina,

I have neither met nor entertained you before. I make it a point to never call on a bordello, Darkan or otherwise. You must not have gotten this gem either: Darka is still strong. It can afford to give up a duchy or have it taken away. Looks like it's take away then. Don't worry, we can always leave you your precious volcano.

Roleplay from Celestial Fury
Message sent to all nobles in the region Malor

************* The MiCE are here! *************

Reading from the Legendary Tome of the Damned, Celestial intoned two names: Kende. Nadina. As the words were spoken, the air shimmered with magic and their fate was sealed.

To the sound of trumpets and baying of orders the battle began. It started with the traditional salute of arrows and screams of death as soldiers fell like flies where they stood. Then the infantry advanced as the cavalry charged from the rear.

Fate knew no mercy and distinguished neither noble nor lord as one after another was wounded. The Lions of Atamara! advanced and watched as the cavalry charged past them to smash into the Darkan ranks.

The Darkans had only two cavalry units. Apparently they had specific orders - very specific orders. Seeing an opening, they charged, one of them directly for the Lions of Atamara! Out of the numerous units they could head for, what were the odds that it was just a coincidence? As they smashed into the Special Forces, the lead horse broke its snout against the Iron Aegis of the Ancients. Rising to his feet, the Darkan took a swing but missed.

Using the hilt of his sword, Celestial knocked the side of his head and the Darkan staggered into a nearby Taran unit who relieved him of his weapon and bundled him away. Then more Darkan cavalry came and the situation was tense. The blows were overpowering but the Enchanted Amulet of Warding glowed bright blue and the horses bolted in fright. However, the Lions of Atamara! were forced to retreat as well.

Looking back, he saw Darka's general surrounded by his men in a box in an attempt to protect him but the air suddenly shimmered around Sir Dyn Karedan and with a mighty thrust, he skewered Kende Indirik, General of Darka who was there at the beginning of the war. As he fell, time slowed with relish and Darkan eyes watched with horror as their military leader thumped the ground in a cloud of dust.

In that instant, the events before the battle came rushing into Celestial's mind, of the spies he had sent to infiltrate the Darkan General's camp who came back with reports of the General's gloating and of his disdain for MiCE and his lust for the Prime Minister's trinkets. "The Head Mouse!" he cried. Looking at him now, he cried a different tune. With his dying breath, he spluttered, "To the last, I will grapple with thee... from Hell's heart, I stab at thee! For hate's sake, I spit my last breath at thee!" And thus, with hate in his heart, he died.

It was clear now. It was only stubborn Darkan pride that would not admit that they had lost the war. One had to admire their tenacity - dying for nought, it wasn't something many could do. And so it was with the second name previously intoned in the book - Nadina Vasata, the courtesan of Ixzal, though rumours were she was a princess. A royal courtesan then, Celestial thought but a courtesan nonetheless. She fought till the last, and as the last Darkan unit on the field it fell eventually and their troop leader taken away in chains.

Turning back, he shouted:

Darkans! The MiCE are here! We'll eat your crops - and your soldiers, They'll raise their hems in frenzied fear!

Karma had bitten the Darkans burro - hard.
